A novel method of strain‐aligning polymer films is introduced and applied to regioregular poly(3‐hexylthiophene) (P3HT), showing several important features of charge transport. The polymer backbone is shown to align in the direction of applied strain resulting in a large charge‐mobility anisotropy, where the in‐plane mobility increases in the applied strain direction and decreases in the perpendicular direction. In the aligned film, the hole mobility is successfully represented by a two‐dimensional tensor, suggesting that charge transport parallel to the polymer backbone within a P3HT crystal is strongly favored over the other crystallographic directions. Hole mobility parallel to the backbone is shown to be high for a mixture of plane‐on and edge‐on packing configurations, as the strain alignment is found to induce a significant face‐on orientation of the originally highly edge‐on oriented crystalline regions of the film. This alignment approach can achieve an optical dichroic ratio of 4.8 and a charge‐mobility anisotropy of 9, providing a simple and effective method to investigate charge‐transport mechanisms in polymer semiconductors. 相似文献

We have developed a high performance liquid crystal (LC) alignment layer of ultra‐thin single wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) and a conjugated block copolymer nanocomposite that is solution‐processible for conventional twisted nematic (TN) LC cells. The alignment layer is based on the non‐destructive solution dispersion of nanotubes with a poly(styrene‐b‐ paraphenylene) (PS‐b‐PPP) copolymer and subsequent spin coating, followed by conventional rubbing without a post‐annealing process. Topographically grooved nanocomposite films with two dimensionally (2D) networked SWNTs embedded in a block copolymer matrix were created using a rubbing process in which bundles of SWNTs on the composite surface were effectively removed. The LCs were well aligned with a stable pre‐tilt angle of approximately 2° on our extremely transparent nanocomposite, which gave rise to superfast switching of the TN LC molecules that was approximately 3.8 ms, or four times faster than that on a commercial polyimide layer. Furthermore, the TN LCD cells containing our SWNT nanocomposite alignment layers exhibited low power operation at an effective switching voltage amplitude of approximately 1.3 V without capacitance hysteresis. 相似文献

The field-free alignment of molecule ClCN is investigated by using a terahertz few-cycle pulse (THz FCP) based on the time-dependent density matrix theory. It is shown that a high degree of molecular alignment can be obtained by changing the matching number of the THz FCPs in the adiabatic regime and the non-adiabatic regime. The matching number can affect both the maximum value of the alignment and the time at which it is achieved. It is also found that a higher degree of alignment can be achieved by using the THz FCP at lower intensity and there exists an optimal threshold of molecular alignment with the increase of the field amplitude. Also found is the frequency sensitive region in which the degree of maximum alignment can be enhanced greatly by modulating the center frequencies of different THz FCPs. The investigation demonstrates that comparing with a THz single-cycle pulse, a better result of the field-free alignment can be created by a THz FCP at a constant rotational temperature of molecule. 相似文献
