From the recent market trend, there is a huge demand for the bioactive compounds from various food matrices that could be capable enough to combat the emerging health effects in day-to-day life. Fenugreek is a well-known spice from ancient times for its medicinal and health benefits. In the present study, two methods of green extraction microwave (MAE) and ultrasound (UAE) assisted were studied in regard of extraction of fenugreek diosgenin. In this study, solvent type (acetone, ethanol, hexane and petroleum ether), solvent concentration (40, 60, 80 and 100%) and treatment time (1.5, 3.0, 4.5 and 6.0 min and 30, 40, 50 and 60 min for MAE and UAE method respectively) was varied to observe the effect of these parameters over extract yield and diosgenin content. The results of this study revealed that treatment time, type of solvent and its concentration and method adopted for extraction of diosgenin has significant effect. In relation with better yield extract and diosgenin content, the yield of fenugreek seed extract was 7.83% with MAE and 21.48% with UAE of fenugreek seed powder at 80% ethanol concentration at 6 and 60 min respectively. The content of diosgenin was observed in fenugreek seed powder extract was 35.50 mg/100 g in MAE and 40.37 mg/100 g in UAE with 80% ethanol concentration at 6 and 60 min respectively. The overall range of yield of fenugreek extract was varied from 1.04% to 32.48% and diosgenin content was 15.82 mg/100 g to 40.37 mg/100 g of fenugreek seed powder including both extraction methods. Cervical cancer, a silent killer is a second most common type of malignant tumor detected in women’s world wide. In modern medicine the usage of phytochemicals to develop drugs for treating various chronic diseases is rapidly increasing. One such phytochemical is visnagin, a furanochrome present in fruits of Ammi visnaga. We investigated the anticarcinogenic potency of visnagin against human cervical carcinoma cells. The antioxidant potency of visnagin was analyzed with FRAP assay, DPPH assay, Chemiluminscence assay and ORAC assay. The cytotoxic effect of visnagin on normal epithelial Vero cells and human cervical cancer HeLa cells were analyzed using MTT assay. The effect of visnagin on antioxidant system was examined by measuring the levels of TBARS, SOD and GSH using the colorimetric assay techniques. DCFH-DA staining, AO/EtBr staining, propidium iodide staining was performed to assess the apoptotic induction potency of visnagin against cervical cancer cells. The ability of visnagin to inhibit cancer cell migration was examined with scratch wound assay. The anticarcinogenic property of visnagin was confirmed by analyzing the gene expression of PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling proteins and MAPK signaling proteins using qPCR analysis. Visnagin exhibited increased Trolox equivalent value in all the four antioxidant potency estimating experiments. Visnagin induced cytotoxic effect only on carcinoma cells, decreased the antioxidants and increased the generation of ROS. It also induced apoptosis and inhibited the cancer cell migration. The qPCR analysis confirms visnagin decreases the gene expression cell cycle regulating protein of both PI3K/AKT/mTOR and MAPK pathway. Overall our results authentically prove visnagin inhibits the progression of cervical cancer in vitro. Therefore it can be an ideal drug of choice which can subject to further investigation for treating cervical cancer. 相似文献

Vocal symptomatology of adductor spasmodic dysphonia (SD) is reviewed critically from historical, epidemiologic, and clinical perspectives. A model of symptomatology of this disorder based on a large patient population, and clinical and physiologic observations is advanced. The model incorporates crucial symptomatic and asymptomatic phonatory and nonphonatory physiologic parameters of laryngeal behavior in these patients. These parameters include vocal fold contact area, vocal fold collision force, glottic compression, and subglottic air pressure. Inappropriate efferent discharges from brain-stem basal ganglia are hypothesized as causing overadduction of the vocal folds in phonation, generating the basic and fundamental vocal symptom of adductor SD—strained, strangled, overpressured voice quality. Cortical loops are implicated as accountable for compensatory vocal behavior, not as the primary site of the disorder. Symptom occurrence, variability, magnitude, effects, and failure of treatment approaches, as well as recurrence of symptoms after ablative or invasive procedures, are explained by this model. The model also predicts that symptomatology of adductor spasmodic dysphonia is unique to this disorder and that symptoms are phonotopically organized. The minimal diagnostic battery based on the model is presented, and it is shown how this battery aids in the differential diagnosis of adductor SD and other phonatory disorders that closely mimic the vocal symptoms of adductor spasmodic dysphonia, including tremor. 相似文献

The purpose of this study was to examine the efficiency with which rice bran (treated or untreated) removes heavy metals, especially Cr(III) and Hg(II), from acidic solution. Sorption assays were done in shaken flasks in the presence of rice bran. Different experimental conditions such as pH, volume of solution, bran weight, particle size, exchange time and stirring time were improved. The efficiency of bran was studied before and after treatments. For treatment, solutions of acid, alkali and salt were used. The results show that after treating with 4 M sodium chloride solution, its efficiency in removal of Cr(III) and Hg(II) was improved. Kinetic measurements of chromium and mercury removal by bran have revealed that sorption equilibrium was obtained after 10 min of contact. Sorption experiments done with various granulometric fractions of rice bran have shown that this sorbent has the same efficiencies in meshes higher than 20. Further research is necessary in order to determine a mechanism for cations removal by the bran. It is mentioned that the process of making polished rice from brown rice discharges rice bran; therefore, it is very inexpensive, with a cost of 1/50 ? 1/40 of that of synthetic sorbent, and thus its use would significantly lower the cost of wastewater treatment. 相似文献

The effects of high-pressure treatment on the colour (objective measurement) and sensory characteristics of white grape juice were studied during storage at 4 °C for 60 days. Grape juice was subjected to three different treatments: 400 or 500 MPa at 2 u °C, and 400 MPa at 40 °C during 10 min. Untreated juice was used as control. Colour parameters (CIE L * a * b *), hue angle (tan m 1 b */ a *), chroma {( a * 2 + b * 2 ) 1/2 }, luminosity Q *{(10 2 log( L *) + 100} and saturation S *( C */ L *) were measured. Juices were evaluated for sweetness, acidity, off-flavour and aroma. High-pressure treatments did not affect the colour parameters of juice, and similar sensory characteristics were observed in both control and treated samples on the first day. The colour and sensory characteristics of pressure-treated samples remained more stable than those of the control juice during 60 days of storage. The control juice was slightly fermented developing some changes in flavour and colour. 相似文献
