Multiplicity results for positive solutions of some semi-positone three-point boundary value problems

In this paper, some multiplicity results for positive solutions of some singular semi-positone three-point boundary value problem be obtained by using the fixed point index method.     

Parametric multiple sequence alignment and phylogeny construction

Bounds are given on the size of the parameter-space decomposition induced by multiple sequence alignment problems where phylogenetic information may be given or inferred. It is shown that many of the usual formulations of these problems fall within the same integer parametric framework, implying that the number of distinct optima obtained as the parameters are varied across their ranges is polynomially bounded in the length and number of sequences.

The harmonic consistency index for the analytic hierarchy process

A new consistency measure, the harmonic consistency index, is obtained for any positive reciprocal matrix in the analytic hierarchy process. We show how this index varies with changes in any matrix element. A tight upper bound is provided for this new consistency measure when the entries of matrix are at most 9, as is often recommended. Using simulation, the harmonic consistency index is shown to give numerical values similar to the standard consistency index but it is easier to compute and interpret. In addition, new properties of the column sums of reciprocal matrices are obtained.     

Algebraic properties of cryptosystem PGM

In the late 1970s Magliveras invented a private-key cryptographic system calledPermutation Group Mappings (PGM). PGM is based on the prolific existence of certain kinds of factorization sets, calledlogarithmic signatures, for finite permutation groups. PGM is an endomorphic system with message space ℤ_|G| for a given finite permutation groupG. In this paper we prove several algebraic properties of PGM. We show that the set of PGM transformations ℐ _G is not closed under functional composition and hence not a group. This set is 2-transitive on ℤ_|G| if the underlying groupG is not hamiltonian and not abelian. Moreover, if the order ofG is not a power of 2, then the set of transformations contains an odd permutation. An important consequence of these results is that the group generated by the set of transformations is nearly always the symmetric group ℒ_|G|. Thus, allowing multiple encryption, any permutation of the message space is attainable. This property is one of the strongest security conditions that can be offered by a private-key encryption system. S. S. 用多焦点全息透镜实现多重谱分数傅里叶变换

提出用多焦点全息透镜实现多重谱分数傅里叶变换.利用全息方法通过一次曝光制作出多焦点的全息透镜,分析了用此全息元件实现这种变换的条件,并在实验上实现了多重谱分数傅里叶变换. 实验结果表明这种变换方法简便可行,可广泛应用于多通道光学信息处理系统及多目标图像识别系统中.

Characterization of strongly interacted multiple cracks in an infinite plate

Based on the Kachanov method and the alternating iteration technique, a new method is proposed to deal with the problem of the strongly interacted multiple cracks in an infinite plate. Unlike the Kachanov method which neglects the interaction of the tractions of the non-uniform components, the tractions of the non-uniform components on the surfaces of cracks are considered through the alternating technique. The accuracy and efficiency of present method are validated by comparing the results of two collinear and two parallel overlapped open the cracks obtained by the present method with those of the exact solutions, the results of the Kachanov method and the alternating iteration technique. Applications of present method in solving sliding close crack problems and evaluating the plastic zones demonstrate the versatility of present method.     

Nonlinear multiple objective optimization: An algorithm and some theory

This paper presents an algorithm and the supporting theory for solving a class of nonlinear multiple criteria optimization problems using Zionts—Wallenius type of interaction. The Zionts—Wallenius method, as extended in this paper, can be used for solving multiple criteria problems with concave objective and (implicit) value functions and convex feasible regions. Modifications of the method to handle nonconvex feasible regions and general nonlinear objective functions are also discussed.This research was supported, in part, by a Faculty Research Development Award and by a Council of 100 Research Grant from Arizona State University (Roy), and by a grant from Y.
