Liquid crystalline materials display unique properties, which can be exploited in various optoelectronic device applications. The Langmuir‐Blodgett (LB) film characteristics of polythiophene model compounds containing phenyl rings linked with azomethine, ester, and alkoxy functional groups poly‐4‐{[(E)‐thiophen‐3‐ylmethylidene]amino}phenyl 4‐alkyloxybenzoate (PTAPAB series) and poly‐4‐alkyloxy phenyl 4‐{[(E)‐thiophen‐3‐ylmethylidene]amino}benzoate (PAPTAB Series) were explored in this study. The AM1 optimized geometries of the aforementioned compounds showed that the films have different type of orientation in space because of the change in the linking functional group. The LB film characteristics were studied by applying the concepts of the failure mechanism in tensile failure. The compression‐expansion hysteresis cycle of the LB films at predetermined area per repeat unit was used to study the viscous, elastic, and plastic nature of the films. The results showed that in PAPTAB series compounds, the LB films were more flexible and took less surface energy than its PTAPAB series homologues, which formed into LB films of rigid nature. The LB films of PAPTAB series compounds were of more viscoplastic in nature. The studies suggested that PAPTAB series structures exhibited good thin film forming nature than its PTAPAB series homologues. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. TiO2-based coatings were formed on titanium alloy by plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) in an electrolyte containing nano-HA, calcium salts and phosphates. Bioactive surface was formed after chemical treatment (NaOH aqueous solution) of the PEO coating. The surface of the PEO coating was mainly composed of Ti, O, Ca and P showing anatase and rutile; while that of the chemically treated PEO (CT-PEO) coating mainly contains Ti, O, Ca and Na showing anatase, rutile and amorphous phase. And the chemically treated surface exhibits dissolution of P and introduction of Na during the chemical treatment process. The chemical treatment has no effect on the chemical states of Ca and Ti of the PEO coating. In addition, the surface constituents of the CT-PEO coating show a uniform distribution near its surface with increasing depth. When incubated in a simulated body fluid for 7 and 14 days, the PEO coating does not exhibit apatite-forming ability; however, apatite was successfully deposited on the CT-PEO coating after 7 days probably due to the formation of hydroxyl functionalized surface, enhancing the heterogeneous nucleation of apatite. The addition of nano-HA in the electrolyte has effects on the surface character and apatite-forming ability of the PEO coating; however, it has no obvious influence on those of the CT-PEO coatings.  相似文献

Dissipative particle dynamics simulations are applied to investigate the monolayer and multilayer film formations on different solid substrates by physical deposition. The influences of the polymer concentration, the polymer chain length, the solvent quality, and the interactions between the polymer solution and the solid substrate surface on the film formation dynamics and the mechanism are studied in detail. The results are analyzed in terms of the thickness and the shape of the deposited film, the kinetics of phase separation in the polymer solution, and the contact angle formed between the polymer aggregations and the substrate surface. Moreover, we suggest two strategies, designing a deposition process analogous to “chemical titration” and physically blocking interlayer diffusion by a simple crosslinked network barrier, to deposit the compact monolayer and multilayer films with better quality, respectively. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In resonance-enhanced laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy, the sample was ablated by a laser pulse and the expanding plume was photoresonantly rekindled by a dye laser pulse. By sampling aluminum alloys for Mg, Pb, Si, and Cu, we showed that for the ablation step, Gaussian beams gave 2 to 3× better signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) than non-uniform beams. For the rekindling step, if no further sample destruction was allowed, dye laser pulses that intercepted the plume transversely gave 6 to 12× higher SNR than the longitudinal case. By combining Gaussian beams and transverse rekindling, the mass limit-of-detection for Mg was about 100 amol while non-resonant analysis was 10× more destructive. Sub-monolayer of oxides grown on laser-cleaned aluminum surfaces was detected by monitoring the AlO emissions of rekindled plumes; without resonant enhancements, they were not detectable no matter how destructive was the analysis. Time resolved studies showed that the Gaussian beam produced less dispersed plumes and that a stronger dye laser beam directed transversely heated up a bigger plume mass without over-heating the plume core. The analyte emissions were sustained while the continuum background remained low.  相似文献

Ammonium iron citrate (C6H8O7·nFe·nH3N) was used as a precursor for preparing both iron-oxide thin films and nanoparticles. Thin films of iron oxides were fabricated on silicon (111) substrate using a successive-ionic-layer-adsorption-and-reaction (SILAR) method and subsequent hydrothermal or furnace annealing. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) images of the iron-oxide films obtained under various annealing conditions show the changes of the micro-scale surface structures and the magnetic properties. Homogenous Fe3O4 nanoparticles around 4 nm in diameter were synthesized by hydrothermal reduction method at low temperature and investigated using transmission electron microscopy (TEM).  相似文献

Size-dependent thermodynamic parameters, such as Gibbs free energy, enthalpy and entropy, for the transition of a Ni nanofilm to catalyst particles for subsequent carbon nanotube growth have been explored. In this investigation, we consider the derived equations of the size-dependent melting temperature of nanosolids based on our previous works. Using this thermodynamic approach, it is found that the diameter of Ni particles is 3 times greater than the thickness of the original film. From the critical and stable sizes of transformed Ni nanoparticles, a minimum film thickness for transformation of film to nanoparticles was obtained. Our predictions are in good agreement with experimental results.  相似文献

Copolymer containing new thermally reversible click chemistry‐assisted triazole‐substituted azobenzene and fulgimide units in the pendant F‐co‐A was prepared by free‐radical solution addition polymerization technique. The F and A were also prepared for comparison. The DSC analysis of F indicates that the polymer possessing the C‐form of fulgimide unit exhibited higher Tm than that of E‐form of the same polymer and revealed that the C‐form of fulgimide unit in F is highly ordered. The cis‐trans back isomerization behavior of the click chemistry‐assisted triazole‐substituted azobenzene unit in film A has thermal irreversibility, while in F‐co‐A it exhibited thermal reversibility. The UV‐exposed film of F‐co‐A heated around Tg leads to cis‐trans back isomerization of azobenzene unit and thermally stable C‐form of fulgimide which retains its conjugated structure where both the photochromic units are converted into planar conformations and exhibit high fluorescence properties. The fluorescence maxima of C‐form in F‐co‐A red shifted compared with F , because the substituted triazole ring in the azobenzene unit stabilized the C‐form of fulgimide unit. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Magnetically hard CoPtP (up to 40 μm thickness) films for MEMS application were deposited from citrate electrolyte and considered in terms of their composition, structure, magnetic characteristics and deposition conditions. Films containing 83-92 at.% (a/o) Co were deposited in the presence of NaH2PO2 in the electrolyte, with current efficiency of about 20% (deposition rate 10-12 μm/h). Coercivity 2.7-2.8 kOe and remanence 3.0 kG were achieved magnetizing in the direction normal to the film plane. According to XRD analysis, films seem to consist of hexagonal phase of CoPt solid solutions. Current efficiency, composition and morphology of the films, as well as their magnetic characteristics, were influenced by the electrolyte prehistory and total charge passed through the electrolyte in previous operation.  相似文献
