In this paper we compare strategies for joint radio link buffer management and scheduling for wireless video streaming. Based
on previous work in this area [8], we search for an optimal combination of scheduler and drop strategy for different end-to-end
streaming options including timestamp-based streaming and ahead-of-time streaming, both with variable initial playout delay.
We will show that a performance gain versus the two best drop strategies in Liebl et al. [8], i.e. drop the HOL packet or
drop the packet with the lowest priority starting from HOL, is possible: Provided that some basic side-information on the
structure of the incoming video stream is available, a more sophisticated drop strategy removes packets from an HOL group
of packets in such a way that the temporal dependencies usually present in video streams are not violated. This advanced buffer
management scheme yields significant improvements for almost all investigated scheduling algorithms and streaming options.
In addition, we will demonstrate the importance of fairness among users when selecting a suitable scheduler, especially if
ahead-of-time streaming is to be applied: Given a reasonable initial playout delay at the streaming media client, both the
overall achievable quality averaged over all users, as well as the individual quality of users with bad channel conditions

A practical design of digital watermarking for video streaming services is proposed in this research. The information of a legitimate recipient is represented as a watermark, which is embedded in the video stream to serve as a cue to trace the recipient in case a clone of the video is illegally distributed. The watermark signals are designed to embed in some areas of video frames to benefit the video stream server, as the result of only partial actions required, including decoding, processing and re-encoding. The invariance of feature points and the self-similarity of hidden signals are further exploited to enable watermark detection without involving the original video. The watermark can decently survive transcoding processes and geometrical modifications of frames. The experimental results demonstrate the advantages of the proposed scheme in terms of watermark visibility, capacity and detection methodology. 相似文献

The quadtree-based coding unit (CU) and transform unit (TU) structure, as well as various prediction units (PUs) of HEVC, considerably increase encoding complexity in intra coding and inter coding. This paper proposes a rough mode cost (RMC)-based algorithm for accelerating CU/TU depth decisions and PU mode decisions in HEVC intra coding. For CU depth decisions, RMC values are used for the fast determination of CU partition. In the case of PU mode decisions, modes with higher RMCs are removed from the candidate list to reduce the number of test modes. For TU depth decisions, the TU partition of the mode with the least RMC is used to determine the TU partitions of remaining modes. The proposed TU partitioning method demonstrates superior performance to the default method in reference software. The proposed algorithm can reduce encoding time by approximately 51% on average, with a 0.69% increase in the Bjøntegaard-Delta (BD) rate. 相似文献

A 1.485‐Gbit/s video signal transmission system at carrier frequencies of 240 GHz and 300 GHz was implemented and demonstrated. The radio frequency front‐ends are composed of Schottky barrier diode subharmonic mixers (SHMs), frequency triplers, and diagonal horn antennas for the transmitter and receiver. Amplitude shift keying with an intermediate frequency of 5.94 GHz was utilized as the modulation scheme. A 1.485‐Gbit/s video signal with a high‐definition serial digital interface format was successfully transmitted over a wireless link distance of 4.2 m and displayed on an HDTV with a transmitted average output power of 20 µW at a 300‐GHz system. 相似文献

Versatile video coding is a new video coding standard that has more capabilities and higher coding efficiency compared with its predecessor. Practical video storage and transmission applications face constrained buffer size and available bandwidth. It is necessary to design the appropriate rate control algorithm to overcome such challenges. In this paper, the non-linear relationship between consumed bits, buffer size, and quantization parameter is estimated by taking the advantages of artificial neural networks, and a rate control algorithm is developed for real-time variable bit rate applications of the versatile video coding standard. The proposed rate control algorithm performs the control action in only one step that results in faster control action. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm controls the bit-rate as well as the buffer state. Also, the rate–distortion analysis shows that the well-known -domain algorithm has only 2.7% bit-rate reduction in comparison with the proposed method. 相似文献

Traffic smoothing for delivery of online variable bit rate (VBR) media streams is one of the most important problems in designingmultimedia systems. Given an available client buffer, a window size, and a window-sliding size, previous window-based online smoothing methods have tried to reduce the peak bandwidth allocated in each window. However, as bandwidths allocated in different windows are minimized independently, these methods require a large peak bandwidth for transmitting an entire stream. In this paper, a new window-based method is proposed. It introduces two new ideas, the dynamic windowsliding size and the aggressive workahead, for delivery of online VBR media streams. Our aggressive and dynamic window sliding (ADWS) method can automatically decide on the suitable window-sliding sizes for different windows. Thus, the allocated peak bandwidth can be further reduced. By examining various media streams, ADWS is shown to be effective and efficient. Considering the online transmission of the movieStar Wars with a 90-kB client buffer, ADWS yields 13% less in peak bandwidth, compared with the bestknown window-based online smoothing algorthm SLWIN(1). Its computation cost (the window-sliding number) is 75% of that required by SLWIN(1).This work was partially supported by NSC, Taiwan, under grants.
