Effect of spin-orbit coupling in para-dihalogenobenzenes on the environment-induced frequency changes in their S1 ← S0 spectra

The consequences of spin-orbit coupling in p-dihalogenobenzenes for solvent-induced shifts or S₁ ← S₀ spectral transitions, and for changes of S₁-state vibrational frequencies compared with the S₀ state, are assigned to mixing low-energy triplet states into the singlet-state system.     

Cobalt-catalyzed hydrocyanation and hydroarylation of enamines

A mild, general and efficient hydrocyanation and hydroarylation of enamines catalyzed by Co(salen) complexes are described. Both reactions include regioselective CH bond formation of enamines, and the corresponding products are obtained in high yield. Hydroarylation critically discriminates the benzyl and benzoyl aromatic rings on nitrogen in cyclization step, and the corresponding isoindolinones including quaternary carbons are exclusively given.     

Molecular structure of carbonyl fluoride as studied by gas electron diffraction and microwave data

The molecular structure of carbonyl fluoride has been determined by electron diffraction. The results have been used in conjunction with the rotational constants reported by Carpenter in a combined structure analysis. The values so obtained are r_z (C=O) = 1.1717 ± 0.0013 Å, r_z (C-F) = 1.3157 ± 0.0005 Å, and ∠_zF-C-F = 107.71 ± 0.08°. These agree with the corresponding parameters estimated by Carpenter from the rotational constants alone. The effective constants, α₃, representing the cubic anharmonicity of bond stretching vibrations have been estimated.

Esr studies on the reactive character of the radical anions,so−2, so−3 and so−4 in aqueous solution

The reactive characteristics of the oxy anion radicals of sulphur, SO^?₂, SO^?₃ and SO^?₄ were investigated by use of the rapid-mixing flow technique coupled with electron spin resonance (ESR) which can detect the radicals having a lifetime of 5–100 msec. The SO^?₂ reduced the aromatic nitro compounds to the corresponding anion radicals, but did not abstract the hydrogen from the saturated compounds nor add to the unsaturated compounds. The SO^?₃ could add to the compounds having CC bond, but did not abstract the hydrogen from the saturated compounds nor reduce the aromatic nitro compounds. The SO^?₄ could abstract the hydrogen from the saturated compounds and also add to the unsaturated compounds having CC bond, but did not reduce the aromatic nitro compounds. These differences of the reactivity towards the organic substrates were discussed on the basis of the difference in the distribution of the unpaired electron density of each radical anion.     

Synthesis of arnebinol,an ansa-type prenylated phenol with effects inhibitory to prostaglandin biosynthesis

Arnebinol, a new ansa-type prenylated phenol, was synthesized in 12 steps from geraniol and p-benzoquinone in 5.1 % overall yield.
