Formation of microvias in epoxy-glass composites by laser ablation

Single CO₂ laser pulses, of 10.6μm wavelength, are used to form blind microvias (holes in electronic boards for through-plating conducting paths) in copper-clad epoxy-glass laminates. The microvia dimensions depend on pulse energy and duration, the thicknesses of the epoxy-glass laminate and copper cladding, and the distribution of glass within the epoxy-glass laminate. The useful range of laser parameters, especially pulse energy, is primarily determined by the ability to metallize subsequently the blind microvias. Several conclusions can be drawn from the data. The pulse enegy should be within ±20% of the optimum value in order to form vias with a cylindrical geometry. For 300 μm thick laminates, the thickness of the copper on the bottom should be 18 μm or more. A larger range of pulse energies could be used if the glass fibre density was more uniform and if subsequent copper metallization of the blind vias could be improved.     

Development of a prototype,experimental single-channel sequencing navstar gps receiver: Part I—Hardware implementation

Late in 1988 the Navstar GPS satellite navigation operational phase is planned to commence, offering world-wide, continuous and precise position-fixing and timing information to observers on land, sea, air and in space. This paper describes the development of a particular type of Navstar receiver—a single-channel, single-frequency, sequencing C/A code unit—and results of various tests carried out on the present phase-II satellite constellation. Part I of the paper deals essentially with the NAVSTAR satellite system and receiver hardware implementation, whereas Part II concentrates on receiver software and system performance.     

Analog circuits optimization based on evolutionary computation techniques

This paper presents a new design automation tool, based on a modified genetic algorithm kernel, in order to improve efficiency on the analog IC design cycle. The proposed approach combines a robust optimization with corner analysis, machine learning techniques and distributed processing capability able to deal with multi-objective and constrained optimization problems. The resulting optimization tool and the improvement in design productivity is demonstrated for the design of CMOS operational amplifiers.     

Group methodology in production management: A solution based on a hierarchical classification method

We consider the problem submitted by Garcia and Proth and we propose for it a solution obtained by simply applying our very general method of hierarchical classification based on the likelihood of the links, in the case of an incidence table of data. This application is done on each of the two sides of the incidence data table. In our approach, the common number p of classes has not to be fixed arbitrarily, but is an observed possible result—provided by the notions of ‘significant’ levels and nodes of the classification tree—for the ‘natural’ association between two partitions. We compare our solution with the previous one.     

一种新的不受寄生电容影响的电容式传感器接口电路

Wavelength Conversion Placement in WDM Mesh Optical Networks*

Wavelength conversion helps improve the performance of wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) optical networks that employ wavelength routing. In this paper, we address the problem of optimally placing a limited number of wavelength converters in mesh topologies. Two objective functions, namely, minimizing the average blocking probability and minimizing the maximum blocking probability over all routes, are considered. In the first part of the paper, we extend an earlier analytical model to compute the blocking probability on an arbitrary route in a mesh topology, given the traffic and locations of converters. We then propose heuristic algorithms to place wavelength converters, and evaluate the performance of the proposed heuristics using the analytical model. Results suggest that simple heuristics are sufficient to give near-optimal performance.
