Periodic points of solvable group actions on 1-arcwise connected continua

It is shown that every continuous action of a solvable group on a 1-arcwise connected continuum must have a fixed point or have a 2-periodic point.     

Fixed point iterations coupled with relaxation factors and inertial effects

This paper deals with a general fixed point method which unifies relaxation factors and a two step inertial type extrapolation. These strategies are intended to improve the convergence of many existing algorithms. A convergence theorem, which improves the known ones, is established in this new setting.     

On a “lack of memory” property

For two independent nonnegative random variablesX andY we say thatX is ageless relative toY if the conditional probability P[X> Y+x|X>Y] is defined and is equal to P[X>x] for allx>0. Suppose thatX is ageless relative to a nonlatticeY with P[Y=0]<P [Y<X]. We show that the only suchX is the exponential variable. As a corollary it follows that exponential variable is the only one which possesses the ageless property relative to a continuous variable. Some properties of bivariate Gumbel Type A distributions with proportional hazard rates

We call a set of univariate distributions with the same mathematical form but different parameter values a family $\text{J}$. Consider a bivariate Gumbel Type A survival distribution, S₁₂(x₁, x₂), defined in (2.1), for which both marginal distributions, S₁(x₁), S₂(x₂), belong to the same family, $\text{J}$ of distributions. It is proved in this paper that subject to weak conditions, the crude hazard rates, h₁(t) and h₂(t), are proportional if and only if the marginal hazard rates, λ₁(t) and λ₂(t), are proportional (Theorem 1). It is also shown that the survival functions of W = min(X₁, X₂), and of the identified minimum, W_i = X_i, for X_i < X_j, j ≠ i, belong to the same family $\text{J}$ as do S₁(x₁), S₂(x₂) (Corollary 1). Counter-examples of distributions other than Gumbel Type A, for which these properties do not hold, are given. Some applications to the analysis of competing risks, using a family of Gompertz distributions, are discussed.     

Arene‐Limited Nondirected C−H Activation of Arenes

The nondirected C(sp²)−H activation of simple arenes has advanced significantly in recent years through the discovery of new catalyst systems that are able to perform transformations with the arene as the limiting reagent. Important developments in catalyst and ligand design that have improved reactivity and selectivity are reviewed.     

Reversible Activation of Water by an Air- and Moisture-Stable Frustrated Rhodium Nitrogen Lewis Pair

[Cp*Rh(κ³N,N′,P- L )][SbF₆] (Cp*=C₅Me₅), bearing a guanidine-derived phosphano ligand L , behaves as a “dormant” frustrated Lewis pair and activates H₂ and H₂O in a reversible manner. When D₂O is employed, a facile H/D exchange at the Cp* ring takes place through sequential C(sp³)−H bond activation.     

XANES/EPR Evidence of the Oxidation of Nickel(II) Quinolinylpropioamide and Its Application in Csp3−H Functionalization

An in situ generated oxidation species of nickel quinolinylpropioamide intermediate was produced. Characterization by X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) and EPR provides complementary insights into this oxidized nickel species. With aliphatic amides and isocyanides as substrates, a nickel-catalyzed facile synthesis of structurally diverse five-membered lactams could be achieved.     

Direct C−H Carbamoylation of Nitrogen-Containing Heterocycles

Nucleophilic radical additions at innately electrophilic C(sp²) centers are perfectly suited for the direct functionalization of heterocycles. Using bench stable and commercially available alkyl oxamate and oxamic acid derivatives in combination with photoredox catalysis, a direct carbamoylation of heterocycles yielding amide functionalized pharmacophores in a single step is reported. The reaction conditions reported are compatible with structurally complex heterocyclic substrates of pharmaceutical interest. Notably, derivatives containing functional groups incompatible with standard amidation reactions, such as carboxylic acids and unprotected amines, were found to be amenable to this reaction paradigm.
