Acoustic cavitation is extensively used for cleaning purposes. However, little is known about the fundamental aspects of the cleaning process. Our previous electrochemical data suggested that acoustic bubbles were oscillating at a distance of only a few tens of nanometers above the surface [J. Phys. Chem. B 105 (2001) 12087; E. Maisonhaute, B.A. Brookes, R.G. Compton, J. Phys. Chem. B 106 (2002) 3166–3172]. The flow velocities resulting from the bubble collapse lead to important drag and shear forces on the surface, responsible for cleaning and/or eroding the latter. We review here the forces acting on an adsorbed particle located on the surface, and develop arguments to explain why small adsorbates are harder to remove by sonication. Then, experimental results on particle desorption and surface effects brought about by ultrasound are presented and shown to agree with our theoretical predictions.  相似文献

A method for the simultaneous determination of the most frequently used surfactant families –linear alkyl benzenesulphonates (LAS), alkyl ether sulphates (AES), fatty alcohol ethoxylates (FAE) and oleins (soaps, fatty acid salts) – in cleaning products, has been developed. The common reversed phase octyl (C8), pentafluorophenyl and biphenyl columns were not capable of separating the anionic LAS and AES classes; however, since only LAS absorbs in the UV, these two classes were independently quantified using a C8 column and serially connected UV and ELSD detection. The best compromise to resolve the four surfactant classes and the oligomers within the classes was achieved with a C8 column and an ACN/water gradient. To enhance retention of the anionic surfactants, ammonium acetate, as an ion-pairing agent compatible with ELSD detection, was used. Also, to shift the olein peaks with respect to that of the FAE oligomers, acetic acid was used. In the optimized method, modulation of the mobile phase, using ammonium acetate during elution of LAS and AES, and acetic acid after elution of LAS and AES, was provided. Quantitation of the overlapped LAS and AES classes was achieved by using the UV detector to quantitate LAS and the ELSD to determine AES by difference. Accuracy in the determination of AES was achieved by using a quadratic model, and by correcting the predicted AES concentration according to the LAS concentration previously established using the UV chromatogram. Another approach also leading to accurate predictions of the AES concentration was to increase the AES concentrations in the samples by adding a standard solution. In the samples reinforced with AES, correction of the predicted AES concentration was not required. FAE and olein were quantified using also quadratic calibration.  相似文献

A sustainable photocatalyst for use with multiple purpose comprising demethylated lignin ( Fe3O4@D-wood ) was made by treatment of wood and iron oxide. Characterization followed by XRD, UV/Vis, photo-current studies, and electrochemical measurements. This material became subject of photocatalytic explorations for water treatment and material synthesis by radical photopolymerization. Exposure of Fe3O4@D-wood with artificial sunlight showed an improved activity considering photochemical oxidation of organic pollutants in the presence of H2O2. The efficient generation of reactive radicals brought this system also to photopolymerization. Here, radicals based on reactive oxygen species (ROS) generated in the catalytic cycle can be seen as the dominating species to initiate radical polymerization. A mixture of UDMA and TPGDA showed good reactivity with cumene hydroperoxide ( CHP ). Photocatalyst used for water treatment facilitates reuse for photopolymerization.  相似文献

A method to evaluate the surface free energy in pattern structure, of chemical vapor deposited dense and ultra low-κ (ULK) SiOCH dielectric films, is presented. Therefore dense and ultra low-κ films were treated by different post ash plasma processes. This films were characterized using Auger electron spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy and contact angle measurements. For both material systems a correlation between the amount of surface near carbon and the surface free energy was found, independent on the plasma chemistry used. The range of the surface roughness is very small and does not have a strong impact on the surface free energy. The correlation model can be applied for pattern structures. After measuring the carbon concentration at the side walls by methods like TEM-EELS or other the model provides the polar and dispersive part of the surface free energy. Having the surface free energy, contact angle of different liquids on or in pattern structures can be calculated. Hence, the wetting behavior and the probability of pattern collapse can be predicted, which is essential to select an appropriate chemical for cleaning and other wet chemical based processes.  相似文献

In membrane process industries, membrane cleaning is one of the most important concerns from both economical and scientific points of view. Though cleaning is important to recover membrane performance, an inappropriate selection of cleaning agents may result into unsatisfactory cleaning or irreparable membrane.In this study the cleaning performance has been studied with measurements of membrane contact angle, Updated Donnan steric partitioning pore model (UDSPM) and salt rejection as well as flux measurement. Thin film nanofiltration (NF) membranes such as DK, HL and DL provided by GE Osmonics are used in this study. Tests were carried out with virgin DK, HL and DL as well as fouled DK membranes. Several cleaning agents were investigated; some of them were analytical grade such as HCl, NaOH and others such as SDS, mix agents were commercial grade agents that are already in use in commercial plants. Contact angle, DSPM and salt rejection as well as flux of virgin and fouled membranes before and after chemical cleaning were measured and compared. The contact angle measurements with and without chemical cleaning of different virgin and fouled membranes revealed very interesting results which may be used to characterise the membrane surface cleanliness. The contact angle results revealed that the cleaning agents are found to modify membrane surface properties (hydrophobicity/hydrophilicity) of the treated and untreated virgin and fouled membranes. The details of these results were also investigated and are reported in the paper. However, UDSPM method did not give any valuable information about pore size of the untreated and treated NF membranes. The salt rejection level of monovalent and divalent ions before and after cleaning by high and low pH cleaning agents is also investigated and is reported in the paper.  相似文献

This paper presents an automatic algorithm for detecting and generating solitary waves of nonlinear wave equations. With this purpose, dynamic simulations are carried out, the solution of which evolves into a main pulse along with smaller dispersive tails. The solitary waves are detected automatically by the algorithm by checking that they have constant amplitude and are symmetric respect to its maximum value. Once the main wave has been detected, the algorithm cleans the dispersive tails for time enough so that the solitary wave is obtained with the required precision.In order to use our algorithm, we need a spatial discretization with local basis. The numerical experiments are carried out for the BBM equation discretized in space with cubic finite elements along with periodic boundary conditions. Moreover, a geometric integrator in time is used in order to obtain good approximations of the solitary waves.  相似文献

A new osmotic backwash (BW) model for reverse osmosis (RO) membranes was developed for conditions of no applied pressures across the membrane. This analytical model has one adjustable parameter representing the coefficient of a linearized convection term in the general convection–diffusion equation. An experimental RO/BW system was used for 12 data sets to verify the proposed BW model and illustrate its predictability. Results show deviations of the model from the data within a range of 5–15%. The described dilution mechanism of the feed concentration polarization (CP) layer is based on RO originated concentrated layer detachment from the membrane surface followed by its gradual dilution.The understanding gained in this research may be applied to automatic RO/BW cleaning cycles. A dominant RO parameter of the BW process is the RO initial driving force—the concentration difference across the membrane. Other RO process parameters – applied pressure and feed flow rate – have lesser effects. Both theoretical and experimental methods provide quantitative relationships between RO and BW variables that enable an understanding and control of the BW process.  相似文献
