Fibres of width 3 ordered sets

We show that in an ordered setP of width 3 there always exists a fibre (i.e., a subset intersecting each maximal nontrivial antichain) of size at most 11/18|P|. This improves previously known results.Research supported by Polish KBN Grant 2 2037 92 03.     

Caratheodory interpolation kernels

Kernels over the unit disk for which a version of Carathéodory interpolation is true are characterized in a simple computationally verifiable manner.     

Deciding Frattini is NP-complete

We show that it is a NP-complete problem to decide whether a finite poset arises as the (Birkhoff) dual of the Frattini sublattice of some finite distributive lattice.This work was supported in part by Swiss NSF grant 20-32644.91.     

The steady state growth rate of a recrystallization front in regions of heterogeneous dislocation density

The paper investigates whether a change from a homogeneous to an inhomogeneous dislocation distribution, assumed to be caused by a slight additional deformation, can lead to an increase of the recrystallization temperature of a deformed metal. In this case, the higher temperature would indicate a more stable deformation structure despite the increase of stored energy. The recrystallization temperature is related to the growth rate. Hence, the steady state velocity of a recrystallization front moving either parallel or vertically to the stripes of a simplified two-dimensional heterogeneous dislocation distribution of parallel sections of higher and lower dislocation densities is calculated. The results show that if a front growths through the high and low density sections in series an overall slower rate despite higher mean dislocation density is, indeed, possible. However, growing in the parallel arrangement always leads to a higher growth rate compared with the homogeneous case of slightly less stored energy. Since in a real structure the faster growth is likely to succeed, the recrystallization temperature observed will be lowered with additional deformation in accordance with experimental experience.     

On the index of composition of integers from various sets

Given an integer n ≥ 2, let λ(n) := (log n)/(log γ(n)), where γ(n) = Π _p|n p, stand for the index of composition of n, with λ(1) = 1. We study the distribution function of (λ(n) – 1) log n as n runs through particular sets of integers, such as the shifted primes, the values of a given irreducible cubic polynomial and the shifted powerful numbers. Matrices that preserve vectors of fixed sign variation

For each k≥ 0, those nonsingular matrices that transform the set of totally nonzero vectors with k sign variations into (respectively, onto) itself are studied. Necessary and sufficient conditions are provided. The cases k=0,1,2,n-3,n-2,n-1 are completely characterized.     

On exactness and isoperimetric profiles of discrete groups

We introduce a quasi-isometry invariant related to Property A and explore its connections to various other invariants of finitely generated groups. This allows to establish a direct relation between asymptotic dimension on one hand and isoperimetry and random walks on the other. We apply these results to reprove sharp estimates on isoperimetric profiles of some groups and to answer some questions in dimension theory.     

Random orderings of the integers and card shuffling

In this paper we study random orderings of the integers with a certain invariance property. We describe all such orders in a simple way. We define and represent random shuffles of a countable set of labels and then give an interpretation of these orders in terms of a class of generalized riffle shuffles.     

The first <Emphasis Type="Italic">L</Emphasis><Superscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">p</Emphasis></Superscript>-cohomology of some groups with one end

Let p be a real number greater than one. In this paper we study the vanishing and nonvanishing of the first L ^p -cohomology space of some groups that have one end. We also make a connection between the first L ^p -cohomolgy space and the Floyd boundary of the Cayley graph of a group. We apply the result about Floyd boundaries to show that there exists a real number p such that the first L ^p -cohomology space of a nonelementary hyperbolic group does not vanish. 交流变频调速技术在二辊轧机压下系统中的应用

介绍一种采用变频调速技术控制的二辊轧机压下系统。该系统可控制轧机压下系统的速度在工艺要求的范围内无级可调，压下量以数字动态显示，控制准确、操作方便。文中对系统的组成及工作原理作了较详细的介绍。
