Microenvironmental differences amongst micelles of various shapes and structures

Micelles of different amphiphiles adopt different shapes and internal packing arrangements in water, depending on their chemical structures and the conditions of the medium. Two microenvironmental features, namely the polarity and the microviscosity that the aggregate offers to a solubilized molecule, have been monitored using extrinsic fluorescence probes. While the differences between micelles of spherical and rod-like shapes are not always distinct, stacked micelles and peptide micelles offer distinctly lower polarity and higher microviscosity to solubilizates than the others.

¹⁰³Rh NMR Spectroscopic Evidence of Mixed Nonahalogenodirhodates(III), [Rh₂Cl_nBr_9–n]^3?, n = 0–9 On heating a mixture of the tetrabutylammonium salts (TBA)₃[Rh₂Cl₉] and (TBA)₃[Rh₂Br₉] at 60°C in propylenecarbonate the complete system of the mixed nonahalogenodirhodates(III) [Rh₂Cl_nBr_9–n]^3?, n = 0–9 is formed. In the ¹⁰³Rh nmr spectra 40 different species have been detected, 16 with two equivalent ¹⁰³Rh atoms each resulting in one singlet and 24 with inequivalent ¹⁰³Rh atoms each pair giving two resonances. The signals of the geometric isomeres are not resolved. All 64 expected resonances are really observed. By additional measuring of the ¹⁰³Rh nmr spectra of the fractions n = 0–4 separable by ion exchange chromatography on DEAE cellulose, and utilizing characteristic increments of chemical shifts the complete and unambiguous assignment of all signals is achieved.

An experimental and theoretical study of vibrational spectra of picolinamide, nicotinamide, and isonicotinamide

The molecular structures and vibrational spectra of the three isomers of pyridinecarboxamide (picolinamide, nicotinamide, isonicotinamide) were calculated with the Density Functional Theory (DFT) method using the B3LYP function and the 6-31++G(d,p), Z2PolX, Z3PolX basis sets. The calculations were performed by using the Gaussian98W packet program set. The total energy distributions (TED) of the vibrational modes of these molecules were calculated by using the Scale 2.0 program and the vibrational modes of the molecules were determined. The Scaled Quantum Mechanical (SQM) method was used in the scaling procedure. In the experimental part of the study, the solid phase FT-IR and Micro Raman spectra of the three isomers of pyridinecarboxamide have been recorded in the range of 4000-650 and 1200-100 cm⁻¹, respectively. The calculated wavenumbers were compared to the corresponding experimental values. As a result, the observed bands of the three isomers of pyridinecarboxamide were assigned with good accuracy.     

Synthesis and spectral studies of 1,3-diketonate derivatives ofortho-palladated α-arylalkylamines

Synthesis of acetylacetonate derivatives of a series ofortho-palladated complexes based on secondary and tertiary -arylalkylamines was described. Their structures and stereochemistry were elucidated by IR, UV,¹H NMR, and CD spectra. Fragmentation processes of these complexes and some model compounds were studied by mass spectrometry (EI). An unusual rearrangement of a molecular ion involving migration of the hydrogen atom from the alkylaminoalkyl group to the palladium atom to form a hydride intermediate followed by the elimination of PdH was observed. The rearrangement occurs through isomerization of the ²-O,O-coordinated -diketonate ligand to the ¹-C-bonded diketonyl form to give the coordinationally unsaturated metal center.Translated fromIsvestiya Akademii Nauk. Vibrational Spectroscopic Investigations of M(Imidazole)2Ni(CN)4·2 Dioxane Clathrates

Four new clathrates of the formula M(Im)2Ni(CN)4·2·Dioxane (where M = Co, Ni, Cu, Cd; Im = Imidazole) have been prepared in powder form and their FT-IR and laser-Raman spectra are reported for the first time. These clathrates are analogues to the previously reported classical Hofmann type clathrates except for the copper clathrate. The Cu clathrate has different spectral features in comparison with its analogues due to the Jahn-Teller effect.     

Selective synthesis of di(propen-1-yl)sulfone and di(propen-1-yl)sulfoxide

Summary A violinoid and a 2,3-dihydrobilindione chromophore is attachedvia an appendix anchored at rings A of the pigments by means of reacting them with the polyacryl-N-acryloxysuccinimid copolymer to yield water-soluble chromopolymers. They are characterized by a molecular mass of about 4000 to 6000 and a relation of one chromophoric unit per 6 to 22 monomers. Their absorption spectra and circular dichroism recorded in water and dimethylsulfoxide as solvents are discussed with respect to structural aspects, and in comparison with monomeric chromophore derivatives.

Far IR and Raman vibrational spectra of nitramines

Vibrational spectra of several nitramines in the long-wave region (50–450 cm⁻¹) were studied. The frequencies of intra- and intermolecular vibrations were separated and a tentative assignment of the frequencies of self-associative complexes was performed. Mass Spectra of N-Arylglycines and Substituted Aniline-N,N-Diacetic Acids

The electron impact mass spectra of eleven N-arylglycines and seven substituted aniline-N,N-diacetic acids were obtained under 70 eV and 14 eV ionization energies. The fragmentation patterns are similar to those of α-amino acids except for the degree of cleavage. The dehydration process of the diacetic acids may be considered as the characterestic process for this group of compounds.
