A silent discharge plasma reactor has been developed to study the oxidation of styrene vapor in argon/oxygen mixtures. A number of analytical techniques were employed to determine the destruction efficiency and to characterize the intermediate products. The destruction efficiency was measured as a function of initial styrene concentration, temperature, and energy density of the plasma. The formation of solid products was observed in most experiments. At low temperature (100°C), the solid deposit was polymeric in nature, while at high temperature (300°C) the solid appeared to be amorphous carbon. A combination of high temperature and high energy density resulted in high destruction efficiency and minimal production of solid films. The destruction efficiency vs. energy density is shown to be more complex than a simple model predicting exponential behavior. Several reasons for the discrepancy are suggested. The e-folding energy density for the destruction of styrene is compared to literature values for other organic compounds, measured using similar types of plasma reactors. 相似文献

Excess volumes (VE) ultrasonic sound velocities (u), isentropic compressibilities (Ks) and viscosities (η) have been measured for the binary mixtures of dimethylsulphoxide (DMSO) with 1,2-dichlorobenzene, 1,3-dichlorobenzene, 1,2,4-trichlorobenzene, o-chlorotoluene, m-chlorotoluene, p-chlorotoluene, o-nitrotoluene and m-nitrotoluene at T = 303.15 K. The measured VE values were positive over the entire composition range in all the binary mixtures. Isentropic compressibilities (Ks) have been computed for the same systems from precise sound velocity and density data. Further, deviation in isentropic compressibility (ΔKs) from ideal behaviour was also calculated. The viscosity data are analysed on the basis of corresponding states approach. Deviation in viscosities are positive over the entire composition range. The measured data is explained on the basis of intermolecular interactions between unlike molecules. 相似文献

Oxidative conversion of a mixture of natural gas and oxygen in a barrier-discharge plasma-chemical reaction was investigated experimentally. The process was conducted at atmospheric pressure and room temperature. The discharge was initiated by high-voltage pulses of 50–100 s duration at a repetition frequency of up to 2 kHz. The principal feature of the process was that in the plasma-chemical reactor conditions were created which stimulated the condensation of the products of incomplete oxidation of methane that resulted in the formation of aerosol even from nonsaturated vapor. The removal of intermediate reagents from the gaseous phases into the aerosol prevented them from further oxidation. Depending on the experimental conditions, the mass percentage of the components of the condensate formed varied within the following limits: formic acid from 20 to 40%, methanol from 8 to 15%, methylformate from 4 to 8%, and water from 40 to 60%. The conversion process has been realized on a laboratory setup of average power up to 1 kW. In the single-pass mode, a 57% degree of conversion of the mixture has been achieved. The energy value of the condensate is 15–20 kWh/kg. 相似文献

Catalytic gas-phase abatement of air containing 250 ppm of isopropanol (IPA) was carried out with a novel dielectric barrier
discharge (DBD) reactor with the inner catalytic electrode made of sintered metal fibers (SMF). The optimization of the reactor
performance was carried out by varying the voltage from 12.5 to 22.5 kV and the frequency in the range 200–275 Hz. The performance
was significantly improved by modifying SMF with Mn and Co oxide. Under the experimental conditions used, the MnO
x
/SMF showed a higher activity towards total oxidation of IPA as compared to CoO
x
/SMF and SMF electrodes. The complete destruction of 250 ppm of IPA was attained with a specific input energy of ∼235 J/L
using the MnO
x
/SMF catalytic electrode, whereas, the total oxidation was achieved at 760 J/L. The better performance of the MnO
x
/SMF compared to other catalytic electrodes suggests the formation of short-lived active species on its surface by the in-situ

It is of engineering importance to accurately predict the surface cooling characteristics in bath quenching of metals and alloys. In this investigation, the surface cooling characteristics in quenching of Wolfson probe are estimated with reasonable accuracy by solving an inverse heat conduction problem. Regularization method is used for smoothening the input temperature measurements at probe center, for superior inversion estimates. The reverse pool-boiling curve is captured on bath quenching characteristic, plotted as cooling velocity versus surface temperature. The electron swarm parameters including the density-normalized effective ionization coefficients(α-η)/N and the electron drift velocities V e are calculated for a gas mixture of CF3I with N2 and CO2 by solving the Boltzmann equation in the condition of a steady-state Townsend(SST) experiment.The overall density-reduced electric field strength is from 100 Td to 1000 Td(1 Td = 10-17V·cm2),while the CF3I content k in the gas mixture can be varied over the range from 0% to 100%.From the variation of(αη)/N with the CF3I mixture ratio k,the limiting field strength(E/N) lim for each CF3I concentration is derived.It is found that for the mixtures with 70% CF3I,the values of(E/N) lim are essentially the same as that for pure SF 6.Additionally,the global warming potential(GWP) and the liquefaction temperature of the gas mixtures are also taken into account to evaluate the possibility of application in the gas insulation of power equipment. 相似文献

The low velocity impact performance of domestic aramid fibre reinforced laminates is investigated experimentally and numerically. Laminates with different thicknesses are impacted by drop-weight test machine under different impact energies. The time histories of impact force are recorded and ultrasonic C-scan technology is used to inspect the internal damage of the laminates. Numerical simulation is conducted using finite element method (FEM), taking into account both intralaminar and interlaminar damage. The intralaminar damage model is based on the continuum damage mechanics (CDM) approach, which consists of the strain-based Hashin failure criteria and the exponential damage evolution law, and considers the nonlinear shear behaviour of the material. The interlaminar damage is simulated by interface elements with cohesive zone model. The numerical results show good agreements with the experiments, thus verifying the validity of the presented numerical model. 相似文献
