Chaos in PDEs and Lax Pairs of Euler Equations

Recently, the author and collaborators have developed a systematic program for proving the existence of homoclinic orbits in partial differential equations. Two typical forms of homoclinic orbits thus obtained are: (1) transversal homoclinic orbits, (2) Silnikov homoclinic orbits. Around the transversal homoclinic orbits in infinite-dimensional autonomous systems, the author was able to prove the existence of chaos through a shadowing lemma. Around the Silnikov homoclinic orbits, the author was able to prove the existence of chaos through a horseshoe construction.Very recently, there has been a breakthrough by the author in finding Lax pairs for Euler equations of incompressible inviscid fluids. Further results have been obtained by the author and collaborators.     

General Solution for Hamiltonians with Extended Cubic and Quartic Potentials

In terms of hyperelliptic functions, we integrate a two-particle Hamiltonian with quartic potential and additional linear and nonpolynomial terms in the Liouville integrable cases 1:6:1 and 1:6:8.

本文研究非线性算子方程F(x)=y的解,结合最速下降法,Newton-Landweber迭代格式及正则化思想,在F满足适当的条件下,构造出新的双循环迭代格式。本文对格式的收敛性进行了严格论证,并估计出迭代格式的收敛精度。     

REMARKS ON THE LIFESPAN FOR THE SOLUTION TO NONLINEAR WAVE EQUATIONS IN THREE SPACE DIMENSIONS

The authors consider the Cauchy problem for the following nonlinear wave equationswhere x ∈ R3, t ≥ 0, ε > 0 is a small parameter, and obtain the sharp bounds for the lifespan of solution to (0.1). Specially, it is proved that there exist two constants C1 and C2, which are independent of ε, then the lifespan T(ε) satisfies the folowing inequalities     

OSCILLATION RESULTS FOR A SECOND ORDER NEUTRAL DELAY DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS

Some new oscillation criteria are established for a second order neutral delay differential equations. These results improve oscillation results of Y.V. Rogo-vchenko for the retarded delay differential equations. The relevance of our theorems is illustrated with two carefully selected examples.     

THEORY AND APPLICATIONS OF MONOTONE SEMIFLOWS FOR FUNCTIONAL DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS

The theory of monotone semiflows has been widely applied to functional differential equations (FDEs). The studies on the theory and applications of monotone semiflows for FDEs are very important and interesting. A brief des-cription of our recent works are as follows.By using general monotone semiflow theory, several results of positively invariant sets, monotone solutions and contracting rectangles of retarded functional differential equations(RFDEs) with infinite delay are gained under the assumption of quasimonotonicity; sufficient conditions for the existence, un-iqueness and global attractivity of periodic solutions are also established by combining the theory of monotone semiflows for neutral functional differential equations(NFDEs) and Krasnoselskii's fixed point theorem.     

ASYMPTOTIC BEHAVIOR OF SOLUTIONS OF NONLINEAR DELAY DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS

Sufficient conditions are established for the asymptotic behavior of solutionsof nonlinear delay differential equations x′(t)+sum from i=1 to m(pi(t)x(t-т_i))=F(t,x_t),t≥0where 0<т_1<т_2<…<т_m≤r,pi∈C([0,∞)),i=1,2,…,m,F∈C([0,∞)×C_0,R).C_0=C([-r,0],R)equipped with the sup norm ||·|| forsome r>0. A new result is established, some known results are improved.     

Soliton solutions for quasilinear Schrödinger equations, II

For a class of quasilinear Schrödinger equations, we establish the existence of ground states of soliton-type solutions by a variational method.     

On the maximum principle for complete second-order elliptic operators in general domains

This paper is concerned with the maximum principle for second-order linear elliptic equations in a wide generality. By means of a geometric condition previously stressed by Berestycki-Nirenberg-Varadhan, Cabré was very able to improve the classical ABP estimate obtaining the maximum principle also in unbounded domains, such as infinite strips and open connected cones with closure different from the whole space. Now we introduce a new geometric condition that extends the result to a more general class of domains including the complements of hypersurfaces, as for instance the cut plane. The methods developed here allow us to deal with complete second-order equations, where the admissible first-order term, forced to be zero in a preceding result with Cafagna, depends on the geometry of the domain.     

Oscillation theorems for differential equations with a nonlinear damping term

In this paper, we are concerned with a class of nonlinear second-order differential equations with a nonlinear damping term. Passage to more general class of equations allows us to remove a restrictive condition usually imposed on the nonlinearity, and, as a consequence, our results apply to wider classes of nonlinear differential equations. Two illustrative examples are considered.
