On the Noncommutative Geometry of Twisted Spheres

We describe noncommutative geometric aspects of twisted deformations, in particular of the spheres of Connes and Landi and of Connes and Dubois Violette, by using the differential and integral calculus on these spaces that is covariant under the action of their corresponding quantum symmetry groups. We start from multiparametric deformations of the orthogonal groups and related planes and spheres. We show that only in the twisted limit of these multiparametric deformations the covariant calculus on the plane gives, by a quotient procedure, a meaningful calculus on the sphere. In this calculus, the external algebra has the same dimension as the classical one. We develop the Haar functional on spheres and use it to define an integral of forms. In the twisted limit (differently from the general multiparametric case), the Haar functional is a trace and we thus obtain a cycle on the algebra. Moreover, we explicitly construct the *-Hodge operator on the space of forms on the plane and then by quotient on the sphere. We apply our results to even spheres and compute the Chern–Connes pairing between the character of this cycle, i.e. a cyclic 2n-cocycle, and the instanton projector defined in math.QA/0107070.     

Gerbes,Clifford Modules and the Index Theorem

The use of bundle gerbes and bundle gerbe modules is considered as a replacement for the usual theory of Clifford modules on manifolds that fail to be spin. It is shown that both sides of the Atiyah-Singer index formula for coupled Dirac operators can be given natural interpretations using this language and that the resulting formula is still an identity.     

Twisted cubics, bis

We consider the smooth compactification constructed in [12] for a space of varieties like twisted cubics. We show this compactification embeds naturally in a product of flag varieties.Partially supported by CNPq, Pronex (ALGA)     

自然弯扭梁的非线性分析

研究了两端边界均为完全约束的自然弯扭梁在小应变，大位移和大转动情况下的非线性性质，并考虑了横向剪切变形和扭转翘曲变形的影响，分析中还包括了拉伸，弯曲和扭转的各种弹性耦合。由最小势能原理可以导出所给问题的平衡方程。这里欧拉角可以用来表示任意大的转动。该方法还可方便地推广到其他各种不完全约束边界的情况。此外，利用上述结果还可以得到该梁在小位移理论中的基本方程和有关公式。     

Structures of the twisted N = 1 Schrödinger–Neveu–Schwarz algebra

In this paper, we determine the universal central extension, derivation algebra and automorphism group of the twisted N = 1 Schrödinger–Neveu–Schwarz algebra. Furthermore, we generalize these results to the generalized twisted N = 1 Schrödinger–Neveu–Schwarz algebra in the final section.     

Numerical Method for Homoclinic and Heteroclinic Orbits of Neuron Models

A twisted heteroclinic cycle was proved to exist more than twenty- five years ago for the reaction-diffusion FitzHugh-Nagumo equations in their traveling wave moving frame. The result implies the existence of infinitely many traveling front waves and infinitely many traveling back waves for the system. However efforts to numerically render the twisted cycle were not fruit- ful for the main reason that such orbits are structurally unstable. Presented here is a bisectional search method for the primary types of traveling wave solu- tions for the type of bistable reaction-diffusion systems the FitzHugh-Nagumo equations represent. The algorithm converges at a geometric rate and the wave speed can be approximated to significant precision in principle. The method is then applied for a recently obtained axon model with the conclusion that twisted heteroclinic cycle maybe more of a theoretical artifact.     

AC transport current loss of assembled conductor of HTS tapes

We study experimentally and theoretically the AC transport current loss characteristics of a tape in multiple tapes assembled in single layer and subject to external field produced by transport currents of adjacent tapes. We measured the AC transport current losses of a Bi2223 silver-sheathed tape in a single layer arrangement of three tapes using our newly developed potential leads arrangement to avoid spurious loss components caused by the magnetization in the adjacent tapes. In the paper, the influence of the external AC field produced by adjacent tapes on the loss characteristics is studied based on the experimental results and theoretical analysis.     

Current distributions in multifilamentary conductors: the influence of intergrowths

The modelling of both critical and remanent states (i.e., the current density and field distributions) in periodic arrays of flat superconducting strips is important for calculating the AC losses in multifilamentary tapes made for power applications. We model the current and field profiles for such magnetically coupled conductors, and have measured these dependences for BSCCO-22223 tapes using a miniature scanning Hall probe technique. The results indicate that the filaments are also electrically connected to a significant extent, which must be caused by superconducting intergrowths between individual filaments.
