We recently observed a Bose-Einstein condensate in a dilute gas of 4He in the 23S1 metastable state. In this article, we describe the successive experimental steps which led to the Bose-Einstein transition
at 4.7 μK: loading of a large number of atoms in a MOT, efficient transfer into a magnetic Ioffé-Pritchard trap, and optimization
of the evaporative cooling ramp. Quantitative measurements are also given for the rates of elastic and inelastic collisions,
both above and below the transition.

A method for determining the orbit types of the action of the group of gauge transformations on the space of connections for gauge theories with gauge group SU(n) in spacetime dimension d4 is presented. The method is based on the one-to-one correspondence between orbit types and holonomy-induced reductions of the underlying principal SU(n)-bundle. It is shown that the orbit types are labelled by certain cohomology elements of spacetime satisfying two relations. Thus, for every principal SU(n)-bundle the corresponding stratification of the gauge orbit space can be explicitly determined. As an application, a criterion characterizing kinematical nodes for physical states in Yang–Mills theory with the Chern–Simons term proposed by Asorey et al. is discussed. 相似文献

We present a general scheme for entangling any degree of freedom of two uncorrelated identical particles from independent
sources by a combination of two-particle interferometry and which-way detection. We show that this entanglement generation
procedure works for completely random initial states of the variable to be entangled. We also demonstrate a curious complementarity
exhibited by our scheme and its applications in estimating the generated entanglement as a function of wave packet overlap

The Poisson–Lie structure of G is used to define the Wess–Zumino term of the action on surfaces with boundary. We clarify the relation of the model to the topological Poisson sigma model with the dual Poisson–Lie group G

Optical properties of an ultraviolet-absorbing substance (UVAS) extracted from the marine red alga, Porphyra yezoensis, have been investigated. The substance is excited by UV light, and the emitted fluorescence is detected using an intelligent fluorescence detector. The fluorescence of UVAS is weaker by four orders of magnitude than the fluorescence intensity emitted by anthracene in the same optical system. The absorbed energy is apparently not transferred to the photosynthesis process and is believed to be consumed as heat. Using photothermal spectroscopy, a signal is observed indicating that the absorbed photon energy has transferred to the heat. The waveform of the photothermal signal of UVAS is similar to that of quinoxaline, whose fluorescence quantum yield is known to be zero. It is determined that the fluorescence quantum yield and the energy of the triplet state of UVAS are 1.7 ± 0.7 ± 10−4 and 21000 ± 1000 cm −1, respectively. The conclusion is that the excited molecules of UVAS decay by passing through the triplet state and dissipate all absorbed energy as heat. 相似文献

We apply the theory developed in quantum cosmology to a model of charged generalized Brans–Dicke gravity. This is a quantum model of gravitation interacting with a charged Brans–Dicke type scalar field which is considered in the Pauli frame. The Wheeler–DeWitt equation describing the evolution of the quantum Universe is solved in the semiclassical approximation by applying the WKB approximation. The wave function of the Universe is also obtained by applying both the Vilenkin-like and the Hartle–Hawking-like boundary conditions. We then make predictions from the wave functions and infer that the Vilenkin's boundary condition is more reasonable in the Brans–Dicke gravity models leading a large vacuum energy density at the beginning of the inflation. 相似文献

最大纠缠态在量子信息传输和处理过程中是最重要的资源之一,因此从退化的纠缠态中提炼出最大纠缠态一直是量子信息基础研究中的一个重要课题.根据Verstraete F 等人在Phys. Rev. A,2001,64:010101(R) 上提出的有效的方法,文章作者在实验上证明了基于局域操作下的两种形式的两量子比特混态纠缠蒸馏最佳协议.从原则上讲,文章的实验也可以容易地应用于任意两量子比特部分混合态的纠缠蒸馏.此外,作者还对经过蒸馏的第一类混合量子态进行Clauser-Horne-Shimmony-Holt(CHSH)不等式的检测,以验证它的“隐藏非局域性”. 相似文献
