A contribution to the global formulation of the higher-order Poincaré-Cartan form

The global formulation of the higher-order Poincaré-Cartan form for Lagrangian field theories in the calculus of variations is re-examined in terms of the theory of lifts of tensor fields on a manifold to its higher-order prolongated jet bundles.Partially supported by CNPq, Brazil, Proc. Classification of hypersurfaces with constant Laguerre eigenvalues in R~n

Let x:M → Rn be an umbilical free hypersurface with non-zero principal curvatures.Then x is associated with a Laguerre metric g,a Laguerre tensor L,a Laguerre form C,and a Laguerre second fundamental form B,which are invariants of x under Laguerre transformation group.An eigenvalue of Laguerre tensor L of x is called a Laguerre eigenvalue of x.In this paper,we classify all oriented hypersurfaces with constant Laguerre eigenvalues and vanishing Laguerre form.     

On arbitrarily vertex decomposable trees

A tree T is arbitrarily vertex decomposable if for any sequence τ of positive integers adding up to the order of T there is a sequence of vertex-disjoint subtrees of T whose orders are given by τ; from a result by Barth and Fournier it follows that Δ(T)?4. A necessary and a sufficient condition for being an arbitrarily vertex decomposable star-like tree have been exhibited. The conditions seem to be very close to each other.

In this paper some properties of a symmetric tensor field T(X, Y) = g(A(X), Y) on a Riemannian manifold (M,g) without boundary which satisfies the quasi-Einstein equation Rij-S/2gij=Tij+bξiξj are given. The necessary and sufficient conditions for this tensor to satisfy the quasi-Einstein equation are also obtained.     

Second-Order Covariant Tensor Decomposition in Curved Spacetime

Local four-dimensional tensor decomposition formulae for generic vectors and 2-tensors in spacetime, in terms of scalar and antisymmetric covariant tensor potentials, are studied within the framework of tensor distributions. Earlier first-order decompositions are extended to include the case of four-dimensional symmetric 2-tensors and new second-order decompositions are introduced.     

Universal Extension and Excision for Topological Algebras

We construct a topology on the tensor algebra that makes the multiplication jointly continuous and is universal for algebras with jointly continuous multiplication. This result, together with the methods developed by Cuntz for m-algebras are used to prove the excision theorem of Cuntz and Quillen in the more general case of c-algebras.     

The wall theorem for elastic moduli

New expressions for the elastic moduli of a classical system are derived. They involve only the two-point correlation function and the derivative of the onepoint correlation function, both only on the boundary of the system. These expressions, valid for any interaction derivable from a potential, are proved from a mechanical point of view by generalizing the virial theorem of Clausius, and from a statistical point of view by a direct method that constitutes an alternative to Green's dilatation method.     

The structure of some classes of <Emphasis Type="Italic">K</Emphasis>-contact manifolds

We study projective curvature tensor in K-contact and Sasakian manifolds. We prove that (1) if a K-contact manifold is quasi projectively flat then it is Einstein and (2) a K-contact manifold is ξ-projectively flat if and only if it is Einstein Sasakian. Necessary and sufficient conditions for a K-contact manifold to be quasi projectively flat and φ-projectively flat are obtained. We also prove that for a (2n + 1)-dimensional Sasakian manifold the conditions of being quasi projectively flat, φ-projectively flat and locally isometric to the unit sphere S ²ⁿ⁺¹ (1) are equivalent. Finally, we prove that a compact φ-projectively flat K-contact manifold with regular contact vector field is a principal S ¹-bundle over an almost Kaehler space of constant holomorphic sectional curvature 4.     

Nucleon-nucleon interaction with tensor forces in the quark compound bag model

A model forN-N interaction proposed earlier by two of us (VSB and VKG), has been extended to incorporate the tensor component of the nuclear force. Based on the quark compound bag model (QCB), the nucleon-nucleon potential has a short range repulsive core which is non-local and has a characteristic energy dependence and is expressed in terms of the parameters relating to the six-quark compound bag. To account for the low energy properties, this repulsive core interaction is supplemented by a phenomenological non-local potential containing both central (S-wave) and tensor components and operates only outside the QCB. Using this model, we analyse and compare the results with the experimental data for the electromagnetic form factors of the deuteron, theD-state observables, such as the quadrupole moment, theD-state probability, and theD/S ratio along with then-p scattering phase shifts up to about 400 MeV.
