使用《新概念物理教程:力学》的教学探索

简要介绍《新概念物理教程：力学》的知识体系、特色及改革新意．结合南阳师院2000级、2001级两届本科班对新教材的使用情况，制定适合我院学生实际的力学教学大纲，探索一种以知识为载体、以学生为主体、以培养学生科学素质为宗旨的新型教学模式．对教学中遇到的问题提出具体的解决办法，对使用新教材的效果进行调查分析，为力学教材的使用和力学教学改革提供一些参考。     

Elliptic fibers over non-perfect residue fields

Kodaira and Néron classified and described the geometry of the special fibers of the Néron model of an elliptic curve defined over a discrete valuation ring with a perfect residue field. Tate described an algorithm to determine the special fiber type by manipulating the Weierstrass equation. In the case of non-perfect residue fields, we discover new fiber types which are not on the Kodaira-Néron list. We describe these new types and extend Tate's algorithm to deal with all discrete valuation rings. Specifically, we show how to translate a Weierstrass equation into a form where the reduction type may be easily determined. Having determined the special fiber type, we construct the regular model of the curve with explicit blow-up calculations. We also provide tables that serve as a simple reference for the algorithm and which succinctly summarize the results.     

A fourth‐order compact finite difference scheme for the steady stream function–vorticity formulation of the Navier–Stokes/Boussinesq equations

A fourth‐order compact finite difference scheme on the nine‐point 2D stencil is formulated for solving the steady‐state Navier–Stokes/Boussinesq equations for two‐dimensional, incompressible fluid flow and heat transfer using the stream function–vorticity formulation. The main feature of the new fourth‐order compact scheme is that it allows point‐successive overrelaxation (SOR) or point‐successive underrelaxation iteration for all Rayleigh numbers Ra of physical interest and all Prandtl numbers Pr attempted. Numerical solutions are obtained for the model problem of natural convection in a square cavity with benchmark solutions and compared with some of the accurate results available in the literature. A Framework for Monitoring Progress and Planning Teaching Towards the Effective Use of Computer Algebra Systems

This article suggests a framework to organise a cluster of variables that are associated with students' effective use of computer algebra systems (CAS) in mathematics learning. Based on a review of the literature and from the authors' own teaching experience, the framework identifies the main characteristics of students' interactions with CAS technology and how these may be used to monitor students' developing use of CAS; from this, the framework may be used to plan teaching in order to gain greater benefit from the availability of CAS. Four case studies describing students' development over a semester are reported. These demonstrate a variety of combinations of technical competencies and personal attributes. They indicate the importance of both the technical and personal aspects but suggest that negative attitudes rather than technical difficulties can limit the effective use of CAS. Finally practical suggestions are given for teaching strategies which may promote effective use of CAS.This revised version was published online in September 2005 with corrections to the Cover Date.     

Irreducible Representations of Wreath Products of Association Schemes

The wreath product of finite association schemes is a natural generalization of the notion of the wreath product of finite permutation groups. We determine all irreducible representations (the Jacobson radical) of a wreath product of two finite association schemes over an algebraically closed field in terms of the irreducible representations (Jacobson radicals) of the two factors involved.
