Volume of Domains in Symmetric Spaces

The authors derive a formula for the volume of a compact domain in a symmetric space from normal sections through a special submanifold in the symmetric space.This formula generalizes the volume of classical domains as tubes or domains given as motions along the submanifold.Finally,some stereological considerations regarding this formula are provided.     

An analogue of Montel's theorem for some classes of rational functions

For sequences of rational functions, analytic in some domain, a theorem of Montel's type is proved. As an application, sequences of rational functions of the best L _p -approximation with an unbounded number of finite poles are considered.     

Experimental verification of drop/impact simulation for a cellular phone

Conducting drop tests to investigate impact behavior and identify failure mechanisms of small-size electronic products is generally expensive and time-consuming. Nevertheless, strict drop/impact performance criteria for hand-held electronic products such as cellular phones play a decisive role in the design because they must withstand unexpected shocks. The design of product durability on impact has heavily relied on the designer's intuition and experience. In this study, a reliable drop/impact simulation for a cellular phone is carried out using the explicit code LS-DYNA. Subsequently globallocal experimental verification is accomplished by means of high-speed photography and impact response measurement. Using this methodology, we predict potential damage locations in a cellular phone and compare them with real statistical data. It is envisaged that development of a reliable methodology of drop/impact simulation will provide us with a powerful and efficient vehicle for improvement of the design quality and reduction of the product development cycle.

Spectroscopy on very neutron-rich nuclei beyond N = 20

Recent studies on nuclear structure by using radioactive isotope beams available at the RIKEN projectile-fragment separator (RIPS) are introduced. Special emphasis is given to two selected experiments from recent programs that highlight studies on the magicity loss observed for very neutron-rich nuclei beyond N = 20 in the “island-of-inversion” region; the particle stability of ³¹F, and the low-lying excited states of ³⁴Mg. Poly(ortho‐phenylene ethynylene)s: Synthetic accessibility and optical properties

Poly(ortho‐phenylene ethynylene)s (PoPEs) have been synthesized via an in situ activation/coupling AB′ polycondensation protocol. The resulting polymers have been characterized by several analytical methods and are shown to have no structural defects. Although the Sonogashira–Hagihara polycondensation reaction is less efficient than for the preparation of the corresponding meta‐ and para‐linked polymers, presumably because of steric hindrance caused by the ortho substituents, the process can be accelerated by the use of microwave irradiation. Optical spectroscopy indicates solvent‐dependent conformational changes between extended transoid and helical cisoid conformations, providing the first experimental evidence for solvophobically driven folding of the PoPE backbone. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 透射式跑道能见度激光测量仪的研究

介绍了一种利用激光测量跑道水平及斜视能见度的智能化仪器。该仪器主要由光学系统、信号放大与处理系统及显示系统三部分组成。简要介绍了该仪器的基本结构、工作原理和主要技术指标，讨论了其中的技术难点及其相应的解决办法。     

反光板(合作目标)反射率测量仪

本文介绍了反光板（合作目标）反射率测量仪的研制。仪器采用对称双光路比较测量法，给定两束相等光通量的光束，分别作为参考光束和测试光束，并用分束器实现原光路取样，从而解决了合作目标反光板入射光线与反射光线重合不能用常规测试方法来检测的难题。由于采用对称双光路的方法，入射光通量是相对恒定的，不受外界因素影响，从而使反射率测量仪达到精度高、重复性好和环境要求低的设计要求。
