A detailed method for the routine preparation of glass capillary columns is presented. The method consists of coating a glass tube with quartz powder prior to pulling the tube into a capillary. The inner surface of the capillary consists of an even distribution of quartz particles fused to the walls. This surface has been found readily deactivated by standard procedures and ideal for the preparation of thick-film glass capillary columns. A simple theoretical model is described for deriving a 1-dimensional equation for the spreading of a tracer in a steady flow at the field scale. The originality of the model is to use a stochastic appoach not in the 3-dimensional space but in the 1-D space of the stream tubes. The simplicity of calculation comes from the local relationship between permeability and velocity in a 1-D flow. The spreading of a tracer front is due to local variations in the cross-sectional area of the stream tubes, which induces randomness in travel time. The derived transport equation is averaged in the main flow direction. It differs from the standard dispersion equation. The roles of time and space variables are exchanged. This result can be explained by using the statistical theory of Continuous Time Random Walk instead of a standard Random Walk. However, the two equations are very close, since their solutions have the same first and second moments. Dispersivity is found to be equal to the product of the correlation length by the variance of the logarithm of permeability, a result similar to Gelhar's macrodispersion.Nomenclature

We describe a new branch-and-bound algorithm for the exact solution of the maximum cardinality stable set problem. The bounding phase is based on a variation of the standard greedy algorithm for finding a colouring of a graph. Two different node-fixing heuristics are also described. A potentiometric method using a glass electrode has been applied to determination of ionization constants for deuterium oxide (D2O) in binary mixtures of D2O with dioxane, tetrahydrofuran, acetone, dimethylsulfoxide, CH3CH2OD, and CH3OD at 25°C. The results are compared with values of ionization constants for H2O obtained previously in the corresponding H2O-organic mixtures, and the isotope effect is shown to be small. Further calculations with the D2O results show that the first five solvents mentioned above are neither appreciably acidic nor basic in D2O solution, but that CH3OD shows slightly acidic behavior (pKa=16.0±0.3). 相似文献
