The use of a sliding plate rheometer (SPR) to determine the first normal stress difference of molten polymers and elastomers at high shear rates is demonstrated. The simple shear flow in this instrument is not subject to the flow instabilities that limit the use of rotational rheometers to shear rates often below 1 s−1. However, issues of secondary flow and wall slip must be addressed to obtain reliable data using an SPR. A highly entangled, monodisperse polybutadiene and a commercial polystyrene were the polymers studied. The inclusion of the polystyrene made it possible to compare data with those obtained by Lodge using a stressmeter, which is an instrument based on the measurement of the hole pressure. The data from the two instruments are in good agreement and are also close to the predictions of an empirical equation of Laun based on the storage and loss moduli.  相似文献

In this study the tangential partial slip problems in Hertzian contact regions are treated by a numerical technique. The tangential loading may include tangential forces in the contact plane and a twisting moment normal to the contact plane. The Coulomb’s law of friction and the property that the direction of friction must oppose the relative motion lead to nonlinear equations. The Newton-Raphson method is utilized to solve these nonlinear equations. Numerical results for tangential tractions and sizes of stick and slip zones may be determined, and they agree with existing analytical results for circular contacts.  相似文献

An analytical version of the discrete-ordinates method (the ADO method) is used with recently established analytical expressions for the rigid-sphere scattering kernels to develop concise and particularly accurate solutions to the viscous-slip, the diffusion-slip, and the half-space thermal-creep problems for a binary gas mixture described by the linearized Boltzmann equation. In addition to a computation of the viscous-slip, the diffusion-slip, and the thermal-slip coefficients, for the case of Maxwell boundary conditions for each of the two species, the velocity, heat-flow, and shear-stress profiles are established for each species of particles. Numerical results are reported for two binary mixtures (Ne–Ar and He–Xe) with various molar concentrations.  相似文献

总结和评述了近年来金属与合金变形局部化的形成、微结构演化与剪切断裂方面作者和相关的研究工作成果. 材料包括低碳钢, SS304不锈钢, Fe-15%Ni-15%Cr单晶, Al-Li合金,α-Ti和Ti-6Al-4V, Al/SiCp复合材料等.综述内容主要包括:采用改进的Hopkinson扭杆装置,对剪切变形局部化形成、发展和演化过程进行了实验观察与数值模拟;采用"侧剖"与"对接"等定点方法制备电子显微镜薄膜试样,对剪切带内相变与再结晶、非晶转变、旋涡结构等动态变形现象,以及与宏观动态力学行为对应的位错胞的形成、发展和坍塌等微结构特征进行了观测;提出了应变和应变率同时作为剪切带形成的两个必要条件的直接实验证据;在剪切带内发现了α'$-马氏体相变现象,以及相变产物与母体之间的晶体学关系;通过位错单滑移或交滑移等微观剪切最后发展成为宏观剪切的机制;对剪切带内再结晶结构的观测和对再结晶动力学本构关系的定量描述;对剪切带特别是``白色'腐蚀带(或相变带)的形成机制的分析和新的解释,指出 ``白色'是带内亚结构取向趋于一致,其在光学或扫描显微镜下很难辨认这些亚结构的取向差所致,并非表明剪切带内一定发生了相变;通过截断实验和实时跟踪观测发现,剪切带内微裂纹的萌生与聚合是材料承载能力骤然下降并导致最后断裂的主控因素.此外,本文对近年来在准静态和循环加载下材料的局部化形变与剪切断裂的实验结果予以简要评述,指出其微观机制与动态载荷下的截然不同, 是由位错的平面滑移所控制的,与热效应无关的等温变形.   相似文献

In squeeze flow rheometry, the main problem is the boundary condition between the squeezed material and the plates. Therefore, the crucial assumption is to know the location and the shape of the sample part where wall slip may or may not occur. This question is investigated from experimental results. For this, squeeze flow experiments are carried out to visualize the flow pattern at the walls. Influence of boundary conditions is particularly studied using different plate surface condition. As a result, with wall slipping conditions, we propose a flow modelling divided into two zones: a circular central zone of the sample sticks on the plates and, beyond that zone, the sample slips at the plates with friction.  相似文献

The relationship between the critical shear stress for the onset of flow instabilities and the work of adhesion at the interface has been evaluated experimentally for a series of polyolefins on several steels, brasses, and coated steels. The critical shear stress was considerably affected by the chemical nature of the die. Low-surface-energy materials were found to produce smooth extrudates presumably by inducing slippage at the wall. Steel, tungsten carbide, and brass surfaces promoted sharkskin defect at shear stresses above the first critical shear stress. A linear relationship between the critical shear stress and the work of adhesion was found to be valid for values of work of adhesion smaller than approximately 30 mN/m. This indicates that slippage occurs due to a breakdown of the adhesion at the interface. For values of work of adhesion greater than approximately 30 mN/m a stronger interaction at the interface may induce a cohesive failure at the interface and subsequently, extrudate distortions.  相似文献

封隔器上的卡瓦锚定后起到支撑封隔器、锁定胶皮筒的作用,其性能好坏直接影响到油井的产量和生产安全。卡瓦与套管间的咬合力分布决定了封隔器在使用中的成败。咬合力的分布是否合理,将直接关系到套管的损伤程度及卡瓦的寿命。文中同时应用有限元法和三维光弹性技术对封隔器卡瓦进行了接触应力分析,介绍了实验模型的建立和实验步骤以及计算模型的建立和边界条件的考虑,比较了数值计算与三维光弹实验的结果,分析了造成误差的原因。实验应力分析结果为有限元计算模型的建立及边界条件的确定提供了重要的实验保证。研究工作获得了一些重要的结果,为封隔器卡瓦的优化设计提供了相关的参数。  相似文献

The oscillating flow instability of a molten linear high-density polyethylene is carefully studied using a single screw extruder equipped with a transparent slit die. Experiments are performed using laser Doppler velocimetry in order to obtain the local velocities field across the entire die width. At low flow rate, the extrusion is stable and steady state velocity profiles are obtained. During the instability, the velocity oscillates between two steady state limits, suggesting a periodic stick-slip transition mechanism. At high flow rate, the flow is mainly characterized by a pronounced wall slip. We show that wall slip occurs all along the die land. An investigation of the slip flow conditions shows that wall slip is not homogeneous in a cross section of the slit die, and that pure plug flow occurs only for very high flow rates. A numerical computation of the profile assuming wall slip boundary conditions is done to obtain the true local wall slip velocity. It confirms that slip velocities are of the same order of magnitude as those measured with a capillary rheometer.  相似文献

The determination of the parameters of viscoplastic fluids subject to wall slip is a special challenge and accurate results are generally obtained only when a number of viscometers are utilized concomitantly. Here the characterization of the parameters of the Herschel-Bulkley fluid and its non-linear wall slip behavior is formulated as an inverse problem which utilizes the data emanating from capillary and squeeze flow rheometers. A finite element method of the squeeze flow problem is employed in conjunction with the analytical solution of the capillary data collected following Mooneys procedure, which uses dies with differing surface to volume ratios. The uniqueness of the solution is recognized as a major problem which limits the accuracy of the solution, suggesting that the search methodology should be carefully selected.  相似文献

When solving problems of inhomogeneous gas dynamics in the slip regime, it is necessary to know the boundary conditions for the velocity, temperature, heat fluxes, etc., that is, the boundary conditions for the gas macroparameters. In particular, such problems arise in developing the theory of thermophoresis of moderately large aerosol particles [1].The problem of monatomic and molecular (di- and polyatomic) gas slip along a boundary surface is considered in many publications (see, for example, [2–8]). The first-order effects include the isothermal and thermal gas slips characterized by the coefficients Cm and KTS, respectively.In contrast to a monatomic gas, the molecules of diatomic and polyatomic gases have internal degrees of freedom, which considerably complicates the kinetic equation [9]. The lack of reliable models for the intermolecular interaction potential predetermines the need to construct model kinetic equations [10].In this study, for a diatomic gas whose molecules have rotational degrees of freedom, we propose a model kinetic equation obtained by developing the approach described in [6]. With the use of this model equation, the problem of diatomic gas slip along a plane surface is solved.
