On the rotating Navier-Stokes equations with mixed boundary conditions

The stationary and nonstationary rotating Navier-Stokes equations with mixed boundary conditions are investigated in this paper. The existence and uniqueness of the solutions are obtained by the Galerkin approximation method. Next, θ-scheme of operator splitting algorithm is applied to rotating Navier-Stokes equations and two subproblems are derived. Finally, the computational algorithms for these subproblems are provided.     

A convective weakly viscoelastic rotating flow with pressure Neumann condition

The objective of this work is to investigate through the numeric simulation, the effects of the weakly viscoelastic flow within a rotating rectangular duct subject to a buoyancy force due to the heating of one of the walls of the duct. A direct velocity–pressure algorithm in primitive variables with a Neumann condition for the pressure is employed. The spatial discretization is made with finite central differences on a staggered grid. The pressure field is directly updated without any iteration. Numerical simulations were done for several Weissemberg numbers (We) and Grashof numbers (Gr) . The numerical results show that for high Weissemberg numbers (We>7.4 × 10^?5) and for ducts with aspect ratio 2:1 and 8:1, the secondary flow is restabilized with a stretched double vortex configuration. It is also observed that when the Grashof number is increased (Gr>17 × 10^?4) , the buoyancy force neutralizes the effects of the Coriolis force for ducts with aspect ratio 8:1. Thin viscous fluid film flows over rotating curvilinear surfaces

Thin viscous fluid film flows over rotating curvilinear surfaces are considered. The steady-state flow is studied for large and finite Ekman numbers. The possibility of obtaining a film of given thickness is considered. The wave formation on the surface of an inhomogeneous film and the development of nonlinear waves are also investigated. The film flow parameters in the cases of flow over a plane disk and a curvilinear surface are compared.     

The limiting current of electrochemical reaction in the binary electrolyte in the rotating electrochemical cell

A rotating cylindrical electrochemical cell with a plane ring electrode on its cover containing a binary electrolyte was considered. The equation for the diffusion limiting current density on the ring electrode was derived ignoring the effect of Coriolis force. The solution of transfer equations by the Karman method at the limiting current in the cell allowed us to analyze the effect of Coriolis force on the boundary layer thickness and to determine the conditions, under which the Coriolis force may be ignored.     

Measurements in the vaneless diffuser of a radial flow compressor

Results from an experimental study of flow behaviour at the inlet of a vaneless diffuser of a centrifugal compressor are presented. Measurements from a crossed hot-wire probe are given for operating points having inlet flow coefficients ranging from 0.006 to 0.019 at different Reynolds numbers. Instantaneous, time-averaged, and phase-averaged absolute velocity and flow angle at the diffuser inlet are deduced from the hot-wire signals after correction for mean density variations. These results show how flow behaviour varies in stable, rotating stall and surge regimes of compressor operation

Rotating bunsen flames as solutions of the Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equation

Steadily rotating solutions of the Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equationu _t + ² u++¦u¦ ² =c ² are studied. These solutions bifurcate from the steady radial solution of the above equation. For large values ofc and angular velocities such thatN¦¦<2c<(N+1)¦¦, we show that there exists a 2N-1 family of bifurcating solutions. The proof is based on a certain generic transversality assumption. A computer-assisted proof of this assumption is given for 1N10.     

Preparation of Ga-doped ZnO films by pulsed dc magnetron sputtering with cylindrical rotating target for thin film solar cell applications

Applicability of Ga-doped ZnO (GZO) films for thin film solar cells (TFSCs) was investigated by preparing GZO films via pulsed dc magnetron sputtering (PDMS) with rotating target. The GZO films showed improved crystallinity and increasing degree of Ga doping with increasing thickness to a limit of 1000 nm. The films also fulfilled requirements for the transparent electrodes of TFSCs in terms of electrical and optical properties. Moreover, the films exhibited good texturing potential based on etching studies with diluted HCl, which yielded an improved light trapping capability without significant degradation in electrical propreties. It is therefore suggested that the surface-textured GZO films prepared via PDMS and etching are promising candidates for indium-free transparent electrodes for TFSCs.     

Robust integer programming

We provide a complexity classification of four variants of robust integer programming when the underlying Graver basis is given. We discuss applications to robust multicommodity flows and multiway statistical table problems, and describe an effective parametrization of robust integer programming.
