Problem of the free oscillations of a capillary bridge

The free oscillations of a capillary bridge whose equilibrium shape is determined by the surface tension forces and the static gravity field are investigated. The values of 25 “lower” levels of the spectrum of natural oscillations of the capillary bridge are found for various control parameters in accordance with the experimental conditions.     

Ferromagnetic Properties of Bond-Dilution and Random Positive or Negative Uniaxial Anisotropy Blume-Capel Model

We study the ferromagnetic properties of spin-1 system, which is considered in the frame of the bond dilution and random positive or negative anisotropy Blume-Capel model in the effective field theory and a cutting approximation. The investigation of phase diagrams displays some rich properties of the trajectory of tricritical point, reentrant henomena at low temperatures. Under certain both bond concentrations and random negative anisotropy, there are new transition lines of double tricritical points. So special emphasis is placed on the influence of the bond dilution and random anisotropy on phase diagrams. The magnetizations of the system are also discussed. Some results have not been evealed in previous reports.     

Simultaneous imaging of the structure and fluorescence of a supramolecular nanostructure formed by the coupling of π‐conjugated polymer chains in the intermolecular interaction

We fabricated a micrometer‐long supramolecular chain in which π‐conjugated polyrotaxane was coupled. A new experimental setup was designed and constructed, and the simultaneous direct imaging of the structure and fluorescent function was achieved. Furthermore, we identified the formation of a polymer intertwined network and observed novel fluorescence due to a long‐range interaction via this intertwined network over a distance of 5 μm or more without quenching over 15 min in the near field. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poisson-Lie T-duality and complex geometry in N = 2 superconformal WZNW models

Poisson-Lie T-duality in N = 2 superconformal WZNW models on the real Lie groups is considered. It is shown that Poisson-Lie T-duality is governed by the complexifications of the corresponding real groups endowed with Semenov-Tian-Shansky symplectic forms, i.e. Heisenberg doubles. Complex Heisenberg doubles are used to define on the group manifolds of the N = 2 superconformal WZNW models the natural actions of the isotropic complex subgroups forming the doubles. It is proved that with respect to these actions N = 2 superconformal WZNW models admit Poisson-Lie symmetries. The Poisson-Lie T-duality transformation maps each model onto itself but acts non-trivially on the space of classical solutions.     

韧性金属裂纹尖端损伤区内应变场测量——数字散斑相关法应用

本文用数字散斑相关方法测量了五种不同幂硬化指数韧性金属材料(铝和铜),双边裂纹尖端细观区域内应变场.对所得结果用韧性损伤模型进行了分析.在此法中以金属自然表面结构为散斑场,不同加载状态的散斑场进行比较,得到相对变形与应变.图象之间相关性 C 是变形参数或是位移及其导数的泛函.使其相关性 C 取最大值的试凑变形即为其真实变形场.这一方法在细观测量中应用得到满意的结果.     

The electrostatic field of B-DNA

The electrostatic field associated with one complete turn of B-DNA is presented. Two base sequences poly (dG) · poly (dC) and poly (dA) · poly (dT) are studied and the effects of sodium counterions bound to the nucleic acid are investigated. The contrasts between the electrostatic potential and the electrostatic field of the macromolecules are discussed and the possible applications of the field are considered.     

ELECTRON PARAMAGNETIC RESONANCE STUDIES OF SINGLE CRYSTAL SODIUM HEXAMOLYBDOCHROMATE (Ⅲ)Cr~(3+)/Na_3(AlMo_6O_(24)H_6)·8H_2O

An X-band EPR study on a Na_3(CrMo_6O_(24)H_6)·8H_2O single crystal diluted by its isomor-phic compound Na_3(AlMo_6O_(24)H_6)·8H_2O at room temperature is reported. Using the least squares-fitting method to simulate the EPR data for principal planes, the Hamiltonian parameterswere obtained. The principal values of the g tensors are g_(ZZ) = 1.904, g_(XX)= 1.973, g_(YY)=1.933. The zero field splitting tensor parameters are D = 0.275 cm~(-1), E = 0.05 cm~(-1). The fielddependence of Cr~(3+) energy levels with field at different angles from the principal axes whenthe field is along the principal planes is calculated based on these experimental parameters.The isofrequency plots of calculated field vs. angle are also shown. They agree well with theexperimental results.     

Atom-probe field ion microscopy

The atom probe field ion microscope (AP-FIM) is a combination of a field ion microscope and a time-of-flight mass spectrometer with a single ion detection sensivity. With the field ion microscope topology of a surface, surface reactions and surface modifications can be studied in atomic detail. By time-of-flight measurements surface layers and interface layers can be chemically analyzed atom by atom and atomic layer by atomic layer. Compositional variations according to surface or interface segregation, precipitations, or surface changes in corrosion or in electrochemical layer formation etc. can be studied quantitatively on a subnanometer scale. Some of our studies on related problems will be decribed briefly.     

A case study in conformation design: learning by doing

Efforts are described to design simple, fully flexible but conformationally preorganised omega-hydroxy-nonanoic acids that could serve as the conformation controlling unit in analogues of the potent protein-kinase C activator aplysiatoxin. Such analogues are macrodilactones incorporating the designed omega-hydroxy-nonanoic acid and 3,4-dihydroxy-pentanoic acid, which contains the pharmacophoric groups. The design process (replacement of CH(2) groups by an oxygen atom, annelation of a six-membered ring and placement of alkyl substituents) of the omega-hydroxy-nonanoic acids was monitored by force-field calculations. In the end of this process simple analogues of aplysiatoxin are proposed in which the proper disposition of the pharmacophoric groups is secured by a conformationally flexible but preorganised template structure as part of the macrodilactone ring.     

Evaluation of Multicenter Electronic Attraction, Electric Field and Electric Field Gradient Integrals with Screened and Nonscreened Coulomb Potentials over Integer and Noninteger n Slater Orbitals

By the use of complete orthonormal sets of -exponential-type orbitals, where ( = 1, 0, –1, –2,...) the multicenter electronic attraction (EA), electric field (EF) and electric field gradient (EFG) integrals of nonscreened and Yukawa-like screened Coulomb potentials are expressed through the two-center overlap integrals with the same screening constants and the auxiliary functions introduced in our previous paper (I.I. Guseinov, J. Phys. B, 3 (1970) 1399). The recurrence relations for auxiliary functions are useful for the calculation of multicenter EA, EF and EFG integrals for arbitrary integer and noninteger values of principal quantum numbers, screening constants, and location of slater-type orbitals. The convergence of the series is tested by calculating concrete cases.
