We investigate the lateral shift of a TM-polarized light beam reflected from Otto configuration under grazing incidence. It is found that the lateral shift is strongly dependent on the thickness of the air-gap layer. By employing the pole-null representation, we demonstrate that the lateral shift is closely related to the null of the reflection function. The numerical simulations for a Gaussian beam are performed to demonstrate the validity of our theoretical analysis. 相似文献

We have presented a model of two consecutive pairs of triplet excitons,
which consists of a succession of two pairs known as short pair and long
pair with reference to their respective lifetimes. We have applied this
model to the modulation of prompt fluorescence (PF) in crystalline tetracene
by a static magnetic field (MFE) and a microwave field (F-ODMR). The two
types of experiments have been enough perfectly reproduced by using the same
set of kinetics constants. Thus, we have arrived to rise the inconsistencies

Polaron effects on excitons in parabolic quantum wells are
studied theoretically by using a variational approach with the so-called
fractional dimension model. The numerical results for the exciton binding
energies and longitudinal-optical phonon contributions in
GaAs/Al0.3Ga0.7As parabolic quantum well structures are obtained as functions of the well width. It is shown that the exciton binding energies
are obviously reduced by the electron (hole)-phonon interaction and the polaron effects are un-negligible. The results demonstrate
that the fractional-dimension variational theory is effectual in the investigations of excitonic polaron problems in parabolic

We have derived an efficient expression in closed form for the surface
entropy of liquid metals from the statistical mechanical theory of zeroth order involving hard
sphere model interaction. Using this expression we have investigated the surface entropy for liquid less simple metals namely
Zn, Cd, In, Sn, Pb, Sb, Tl and Bi selfconsistently.
The effective hard sphere diameters are obtained from the thermodynamic
perturbation theory called the LWCA. The prediction of the selfconsistent
calculation improves significantly for all concerned systems except for Zn

Temporal clustering analysis (TCA) has been proposed as a method for detecting the brain responses of a functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) time series when the time and location of activation are completely unknown. But TCA is not suitable for treating the time series of the whole brain due to the existence of many inactive pixels. In theory, active pixels are located only in gray matter (GM). In this study, SPM2 was used to segment functional images into GM, white matter and cerebrospinal fluid, and only the pixels in GM were considered. Thus, most of inactive pixels are deleted, so that the sensitivity of TCA is greatly improved in the analysis of the whole brain. The same set of acupuncture fMRI data was treated using both conventional TCA and modified TCA (MTCA) for comparing their analytical ability. The results clearly show a significant improvement in the sensitivity achieved by MTCA. 相似文献

Clinical functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) occasionally fails to detect significant activation, often due to variability in task performance. The present study seeks to test whether a more flexible statistical analysis can better detect activation, by accounting for variance associated with variable compliance to the task over time. Experimental results and simulated data both confirm that even at 80% compliance to the task, such a flexible model outperforms standard statistical analysis when assessed using the extent of activation (experimental data), goodness of fit (experimental data), and area under the operator characteristic curve (simulated data). Furthermore, retrospective examination of 14 clinical fMRI examinations reveals that in patients where the standard statistical approach yields activation, there is a measurable gain in model performance in adopting the flexible statistical model, with little or no penalty in lost sensitivity. This indicates that a flexible model should be considered, particularly for clinical patients who may have difficulty complying fully with the study task. 相似文献

EEG-correlated fMRI can provide localisation information on the generators of epileptiform discharges in patients with focal epilepsy. To increase the technique's clinical potential, it is important to consider ways of optimising the yield of each experiment while minimizing the risk of false-positive activation. Head motion can lead to severe image degradation and result in false-positive activation and is usually worse in patients than in healthy subjects. We performed general linear model fMRI data analysis on simultaneous EEG-fMRI data acquired in 34 cases with focal epilepsy. Signal changes associated with large inter-scan motion events (head jerks) were modelled using modified design matrices that include 'scan nulling' regressors. We evaluated the efficacy of this approach by mapping the proportion of the brain for which F-tests across the additional regressors were significant. In 95% of cases, there was a significant effect of motion in 50% of the brain or greater; for the scan nulling effect, the proportion was 36%; this effect was predominantly in the neocortex. We conclude that careful consideration of the motion-related effects in fMRI studies of patients with epilepsy is essential and that the proposed approach can be effective. 相似文献

Tissue water molecules reside in different biophysical compartments. For example, water molecules in the vasculature reside for variable periods of time within arteries, arterioles, capillaries, venuoles and veins, and may be within blood cells or blood plasma. Water molecules outside of the vasculature, in the extravascular space, reside, for a time, either within cells or within the interstitial space between cells. Within these different compartments, different types of microscopic motion that water molecules may experience have been identified and discussed. These range from Brownian diffusion to more coherent flow over the time scales relevant to functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) experiments, on the order of several 10s of milliseconds. How these different types of motion are reflected in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) methods developed for "diffusion" imaging studies has been an ongoing and active area of research. Here we briefly review the ideas that have developed regarding these motions within the context of modern "diffusion" imaging techniques and, in particular, how they have been accessed in attempts to further our understanding of the various contributions to the fMRI signal changes sought in studies of human brain activation. 相似文献

Performance of blind source separation algorithms for fMRI analysis using a group ICA method 总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5
Independent component analysis (ICA) is a popular blind source separation technique that has proven to be promising for the analysis of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data. A number of ICA approaches have been used for fMRI data analysis, and even more ICA algorithms exist; however, the impact of using different algorithms on the results is largely unexplored. In this paper, we study the performance of four major classes of algorithms for spatial ICA, namely, information maximization, maximization of non-Gaussianity, joint diagonalization of cross-cumulant matrices and second-order correlation-based methods, when they are applied to fMRI data from subjects performing a visuo-motor task. We use a group ICA method to study variability among different ICA algorithms, and we propose several analysis techniques to evaluate their performance. We compare how different ICA algorithms estimate activations in expected neuronal areas. The results demonstrate that the ICA algorithms using higher-order statistical information prove to be quite consistent for fMRI data analysis. Infomax, FastICA and joint approximate diagonalization of eigenmatrices (JADE) all yield reliable results, with each having its strengths in specific areas. Eigenvalue decomposition (EVD), an algorithm using second-order statistics, does not perform reliably for fMRI data. Additionally, for iterative ICA algorithms, it is important to investigate the variability of estimates from different runs. We test the consistency of the iterative algorithms Infomax and FastICA by running the algorithm a number of times with different initializations, and we note that they yield consistent results over these multiple runs. Our results greatly improve our confidence in the consistency of ICA for fMRI data analysis. 相似文献
