On Solvability of a Boundary Value Problem for Singular Integral Equations

This paper deals with the solvability of boundary value problems for singular integral equations of the form (i)-(ii).By an algebraic method we reduce the problem (i)-(ii) to a system of linear algebraic equations which gives all solutions in a closed form.AMS Subject Classification: 47G05, 45GO5, 45E05     

Consistent Initialization for Nonlinear Index-2 Differential–Algebraic Equation: Large Sparse Systems in MATLAB

An important component of any initial-value solver for higher-index differential–algebraic equations consists in the computation of consistent initial values. In a recent paper [5], an algorithm is proposed which is applicable to a very general class of index-2 systems. Unfortunately, the computational expense is rather high. We present a modification of this approach, which gives rise to a MATLAB implementation capable of handling systems of moderate dimension (several thousands of unknowns). The algorithm is illustrated by examples.     

The Cauchy Problem for the System of Maxwell Equations

We consider the problem of analytic continuation of a solution to the system of Maxwell equations in a bounded spatial domain from data on part of the boundary of the domain. We construct an approximate solution to the problem using the Carleman matrix method.     

IRK Methods for Index 2 and 3 DAEs: Starting Algorithms

When semi-explicit differential-algebraic equations are solved with implicit Runge-Kutta methods, the computational effort is dominated by the cost of solving the non-linear systems. That is why it is important to have good starting values to begin the iterations. In this paper we study a type of starting algorithms, without additional computational cost, in the case of index-2 and index-3 DAEs. The order of the starting values is defined, and by using DA-series and rooted trees we obtain their general order conditions. If the RK method satisfies some simplifying assumptions, then the maximum order can be obtained.     

Regularity of Pressure in the Neighbourhood of Regular Points of Weak Solutions of the Navier-Stokes Equations

In the context of the weak solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations we study the regularity of the pressure and its derivatives in the space-time neighbourhood of regular points. We present some global and local conditions under which the regularity is further improved.

Integral global optimization method for solution of nonlinear complementarity problems

The mapping in a nonlinear complementarity problem may be discontinuous. The integral global optimization algorithm is proposed to solve a nonlinear complementarity problem with a robust piecewise continuous mapping. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the algorithm.     

A nonsmooth Newton method for variational inequalities,I: Theory

This paper presents a modified damped Newton algorithm for solving variational inequality problems based on formulating this problem as a system of equations using the Minty map. The proposed modified damped-Newton method insures convergence and locally quadratic convergence under the assumption of regularity. Under the assumption ofweak regularity and some mild conditions, the modified algorithm is shown to always create a descent direction and converge to the solution. Hence, this new algorithm is often suitable for many applications where regularity does not hold. Part II of this paper presents the results of extensive computational testing of this new method.Corresponding author.     

Two-potential formula continued off-the-energy-shell

We derive an off-energy-shell generalization of the two-potential formula by using a coordinate-space approach and apply the formalism to construct algorithms for studying spatial behaviour of the fully off-shellT matrix. We also suggest some future applications of the proposed theory.     

Design and optimal tuning of nonlinear PI compensators

In this paper, linear time-invariant single-input single-output (SISO) systems that are stabilizable by linear proportional and integral (PI) compensators are considered. For such systems, a five-parameter nonlinear PI compensator is proposed. The parameters of the proposed compensator are tuned by solving an optimization problem. The optimization problem always has a solution.Additionally, a general nonlinear PI compensator is proposed and is approximated by easy-to-compute compensators, for instance, a six-parameter nonlinear PI compensator. The parameters of the approximate compensators are tuned to satisfy an optimality condition. The superiority of the proposed nonlinear PI compensators over linear PI compensators is discussed and is demonstrated for two feedback systems.
