The quantum phase transition in the ground state of the extended spin S = 1/2 XY model has been studied in detail. Using the exact solution of the model the low temperature thermodynamics, as well as the ground state phase diagram of the model in the presence of applied uniform and/or staggered magnetic field are discussed. We study analytically and numerically the problem of a nonlinear mechanical oscillator with additive noise in the absence of damping. We show that the amplitude, the velocity and the energy of the oscillator grow algebraically with time. For Gaussian white noise, an analytical expression for the probability distribution function of the energy is obtained in the long-time limit. In the case of colored, Ornstein-Uhlenbeck noise, a self-consistent calculation leads to (different) anomalous diffusion exponents. Dimensional analysis yields the qualitative behavior of the prefactors (generalized diffusion constants) as a function of the correlation time. We present a comprehensive analysis of the optical constants of the two-dimensional dichalcogenide materials 2 H - TaSe 2 and 2 H - NbSe 2 , in an attempt to address the physics of two-dimensional correlated systems. The title compounds were studied over several decades in frequency, from the far-infrared to the ultraviolet. Measurements with linearly polarized light have allowed us to obtain both the in-plane and out-of-plane components of the conductivity tensor. Although the electromagnetic response of dichalcogenides is strongly anisotropic, both the in-plane and out-of-plane components of the conductivity tensor share many common features, including the presence of a well-defined metallic component, as well as a “mid-infrared band”. We discuss the implications of these results in the context of the spectroscopic results of other classes of low-dimensional conductors such as the high-temperature superconducting cuprates. In particular, the analysis of the redistribution of the spectral weight as a function of temperature, as well as the behavior of the quasiparticles relaxation rate, points to significant distinctions between the charge dynamics of dichalcogenides and other classes of low dimensional conductors. In order to clarify the physics of the crossover from a Peierls band insulator to a correlated Mott-Hubbard insulator, we analyze ground-state and spectral properties of the one-dimensional half-filled Holstein-Hubbard model using quasi-exact numerical techniques. In the adiabatic limit the transition is connected to the band to Mott insulator transition of the ionic Hubbard model. Depending on the strengths of the electron-phonon coupling and the Hubbard interaction the transition is either first order or evolves continuously across a narrow intermediate phase with finite spin, charge, and optical excitation gaps. Raman spectra of single-wall carbon nanotubes (CNTs) either in the form of micrometer sized bundles or thin layers prepared by dilution and sonication of powders have been compared. We have been able to collect the Raman spectrum of nanotube bundles that are not in touch with the substrate, and therefore not affected by interactions with the substrate surface. This spectrum resulted to be similar to that of the precursor nanotube powders, whereas relevant changes in the Raman spectrum are detected when the diluted powders form very thin layers on either metallic or insulating surfaces, as probed by confocal microraman imaging on well defined areas of the CNTs layers. In the case of thin layers, the intensity of the Raman D band, detected between 1 320 and 1 340 cm-1 and ascribed to disorder effects, is strongly enhanced. We present 69,71Ga-NMR experiments on microcrystalline samples of the recently discovered supramolecular compound Ga 84 [ N ( SiMe 3 ) 2 ] 20 Li 6 Br 2 ( thf ) 20 . 2 toluene, which is composed of ligand-coordinated Ga84 metal clusters, packed together in a fully ordered crystalline matrix. The compound is highly conducting and even shows superconductivity below T c ~ 7.2 K. Our preliminary results between 10-300 K show a metallic-like behavior: the nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate T 1 -1 follows the Korringa law 69 ( T 1 T ) -1 = 0.36 s -1 K -1 , but with a relaxation rate approximately three times smaller than in bulk -Ga metal. No quantum-size effects are observed, the Korringa law being followed down to 10 K, whereas the quantum-gaps for individual clusters should amount to ~ 10 3 K. These results therefore suggest a transport process based on intermolecular charge transfer, similar as in alkali-doped fullerenes and silicon-clathrates.  相似文献

In Rydberg atoms subject to static and harmonic collinear electric fields, intrashell transition can be induced by the first order perturbation from a small perpendicular electric or magnetic field, or by effects of the second order in the major fields. Both mechanisms lead to resonances that are suppressed under certain conditions, and high-frequency interference oscillations in case of non-adiabatic field switching. Recent measurements of microwave ionization signals show very rich and fascinating structures similar to the ones predicted for intrashell mixing. We show that the observed ionization structures may be explained by diabatic electric-field ionization and the consistent use of perturbation theory for intrashell mixing. In particular, the dominant oscillation frequency is successfully interpreted in terms of interference between first and second order transition amplitudes. New predictions are provided. The present approach gives a comprehensive picture of intrashell transitions, which may be tested in future experiments designed to observe such transitions directly. Both theoretical and experimental works give evidence that gallium exhibits solid phases labelled , , , besides the stable phase strongly dependent both on the size and the confinement conditions. An experimental technique was used based on capacitance and conductance measurements vs. temperature in the audiofrequency range. This technique is particularly sensitive to the conditions of the investigated particle surface that plays a fundamental role in the melting and more generally in the phase transition processes. In particular the strict relation between the derivative of the capacitance with respect to the temperature, dC/dT, and the entropy of the system is considered. In gallium nanoparticles 20 nm in radius, only the phase is shown to occur. Further the transition to liquid phase was detected. The melting process was found to start about 65 K below the full melting temperature value. In the case of particles 10 nm in radius, where different metastable phases may occur, the capacitance vs. temperature curve was found to display abrupt changes of the slope. The singularities are associated to a well defined transition temperature.  相似文献

In the process of deducing the Hölder principle, a key step is to use the concept of non-contemporaneous variations. In this paper, whether starting from analytic method or from graphic solution method, the authors prove that the expression formula of non-contemporaneous variations is incorrect when the variable functions have zero-order nearness degree, and obtain a new expression. From the view of calculus of variations and differential calculus, the non-contemporaneous variations are studied. The study result shows that the concept of non-contemporaneous variations is a combination of the concept of variations and the concept of differentiation. The authors prove that the new expression is correct and obtain an equivalent expression of it. By means of this equivalent expression, this paper proves that the above expression formula of non-contemporaneous variations is correct when the variable functions have one-order nearness degree. Further study shows that, in the process of deducing Hölder’s principle, there is an implicit expression. Whether starting from analytic method or from graphic solution method, the authors discovered that the implicit expression of non-contemporaneous variations is incorrect when the variable functions have zero-order nearness degree and have one-order nearness degree. This paper proves that the implicit expression of non-contemporaneous variations is correct when the variable functions have two-order nearness degree. Further study shows that Hölder’s principle is tenable when the variable functions have two-order nearness degree.  相似文献
