Alginate is a linear copolymer of 1‐4 linked β‐D ‐mannuronic acid (M) and 1‐4 linked α‐L ‐guluronic acid (G). The physical properties of these polysaccharides such as gel properties and viscosity are largely correlated to the monomer composition (M/G ratio), the sequence of the polymer and the molecular weight. Determination of the M/G ratio is therefore important and NMR spectroscopy is among the most common methods used to accurately obtain this ratio. Instead of using time consuming, possibly sample altering, acid hydrolysis to reduce the viscosity of the alginate sample prior to analysis, samples of low concentrations can be used. However, this results in a water peak in the NMR spectrum that is several orders of magnitude larger than the alginate signals and water suppression is required. In this article, a diffusion‐edited NMR experiment that suppresses the water peak while retaining the signals of interest has been used to enable correct M/G ratio determination. This approach exploits the difference in translational diffusion between the larger alginate molecules and the smaller water molecules. Using this method, the monomer composition of 20 different alginate powders was determined. The diffusion parameters were optimized to allow measurement for samples covering a large range of M/G ratios and viscosities. Thus, such method should be useful for analyzing large numbers of unknown alginate samples using, for example, automation procedures. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. 相似文献

In the photomicrocalorimetric module designed by Johansson and Wadsö for a commercial Thermometric TAM heat conduction batch microcalorimeter, the incident light from an external xenon lamp was divided by a beam splitter and directed to the two vessels of the differential system by light guides ideally to give zero heat flow. In practice this proved difficult and so to improve the balance between the vessels in terms of the incident light heat output as well as potentially to give more versatility regarding the choice of wavelengths, the xenon lamp-based system was replaced in the first stage by a pair of cold white LEDs embedded directly in the test and reference vessels. The LEDs had independent electrical circuits to achieve the balance by manual adjustment. As a second stage, the test vessel was equipped with PTFE tubing for changing the liquid phase in it while it was in the middle thermal equilibrium position. Liquid crystalline materials display unique properties, which can be exploited in organic light emitting diodes. Polythiophene model compounds containing phenyl groups linked with azomethine, ester, and alkoxy groups [thiophene‐3‐alkyloxy benzoyloxy aniline series (N series) and thiophene‐3‐alkoxy phenoxy amino benzoate series (R Series)] were synthesized. Molecular orbital calculations were performed and the predicted band gaps compared to understand the effects of spacer length and linkage. The experimental photoabsorption characteristics are compared with the theoretically predicted band gap. Photoabsorption and emission studies on N series and R series polymers as the function of polarizer angle suggest that polymers of both series emit polarized light in all base color ranges. The electroemission characteristics of the above‐synthesized polymers were also recorded as the function of polarizer angle. The results show that the compounds also emit polarized electroemission, and the EL polarization ratio decreases with the increase of alkoxy chain length for N and R polymers. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Nonconjugated bipolar transport polymers have been developed as host materials for electroluminescent devices by incorporating both electron‐transporting and hole‐transporting functionalities into copolymers. The random copolymer PCt‐nvk3‐7 containing mesogen‐jacketed segment of P‐Ct have been synthesized and characterized. The effect of mesogen‐jacketed segment content of these bipolar copolymers on device performance has been investigated. The results of polymer light‐emitting diodes (PLEDs) show that the jacketed content of copolymers has a significant effect on device performance: lowering charge transport and facilitating the hole‐electron recombination leads to much higher current efficiency. Applying these high triplet random copolymers as host, the maximum current efficiency of 0.70 cd/A and the maximum brightness of 1872.8 cd/m2 was achieved for PCt‐nvk3‐7 with an orange‐emitting complex dopant. The results suggest that the bipolar copolymers PCt‐nvks can be good host polymers for electrophosphorescent devices. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We report on a blue-excited luminescence phenomenon in Eu2+-doped strontium boroaluminate glasses in this paper. The emission wavelengths strongly depend on the B2O3 content in the glasses, changing hue from green to yellow. The excitation spectra exhibit a peculiar blue excitation window that the excitation at UV band is strongly depressed and at blue band is enhanced correspondingly. The low emission quantum efficiency in the glasses can be significantly improved by forming a strontium boroaluminate glass-ceramics, accompanying with the window disappearance. 相似文献

New electroluminescent polyfluorenevinylenes (PFV) copolymers with carbazole group, CzPFVs, have been synthesized by the GILCH polymerization. The carbazole groups were introduced as pendant to increase the electron rich ability of the copolymers. All CzPFVs exhibited absorption spectra with maximum peaks at around 417 nm. In the PL emission spectra of CzPFVs, maximum peaks around 463 nm and shoulder peaks around 490–500 nm were exhibited. By adjusting the feed ratios of carbazole groups in the CzPFVs, it is possible to have the higher current density and brightness, and the lower turn‐on voltage due to increasing hole injection ability. The maximum luminescence of CzPFV9 was 2003 cd/m2 at 7 V. The introduction of carbazole contents in PFVs can enhance the device performance to result in stable PL and EL spectra with high current density and brightness due to the increased hole injection ability and reduced interchain interaction between polymer backbones. Especially, the 1:1 mixture of CzPFV10 and PVK didn't show aggregation effect in PL spectra even after annealing the thin film at 80 °C up to 60 min, since the interchain interaction among polymer backbones with fluorenevinylene units was reduced. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new strategy to realize efficient white‐light emission from a binary fluorene‐based copolymer (PF‐Phq) with the fluorene segment as a blue emitter and the iridium complex, 9‐iridium(III)bis(2‐(2‐phenyl‐quinoline‐N,C3′)(11,13‐tetradecanedionate))‐3,6‐carbazole (Phq), as a red emitter has been proposed and demonstrated. The photo‐ and electroluminescence properties of the PF‐Phq copolymers were investigated. White‐light emission with two bands of blue and red was achieved from the binary copolymers. The efficiency increased with increasing concentration of iridium complex, which resulted from its efficient phosphorescence emission and the weak phosphorescent quenching due to its lower triplet energy level than that of polyfluorene. In comparison with the binary copolymer, the efficiency and color purity of the ternary copolymers (PF‐Phq‐BT) were improved by introducing fluorescent green benzothiadiazole (BT) unit into polyfluorene backbone. This was ascribed to the exciton confinement of the benzothiadiazole unit, which allowed efficient singlet energy transfer from fluorene segment to BT unit and avoided the triplet quenching resulted from the higher triplet energy levels of phosphorescent green emitters than that of polyfluorene. The phosphorescence quenching is a key factor in the design of white light‐emitting polyfluorene with triplet emitter. It is shown that using singlet green and triplet red emitters is an efficient approach to reduce and even avoid the phosphorescence quenching in the fluorene‐based copolymers. The strategy to incorporate singlet green emitter to polyfluorene backbone and to attach triplet red species to the side chain is promising for white polymer light‐emitting diodes. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The combination of π‐stacked with π‐conjugated building blocks offers an essential strategy to construct multifunctional organic semiconductors (MOSs) with the unique optoelectrical properties. Covalent hybrids can efficiently avoid the intrinsic phase‐separation defects in corresponding blend system. In this contribution, poly(vinylcarbazole) tethered with terfluorene, PVK‐TF, as a double‐channeled π‐stacked and π‐conjugated hybrid (SCH), has been constructed via Friedal‐Crafts click postmodification (FCCP). The chemical structure and optoelectrical property were determined by GPC, UV–vis, PL, TGA, DSC, and CV. Its PL spectra in the annealing thin film at N2 atmosphere without low‐energy emission bands centered at the 530 nm indicates that no π‐stacks between carbazole and TF or among TFs dominate the whole condensed phase, which is in agreement with the intrachain T‐shaped π‐pitched motifs in molecular modeling simulation due to steric hindrance effect in complicated diarylfluorenes (CDAFs). A supporting prototype stable deep‐blue PLED was successfully obtained with an Internationale de l'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of (0.20, 0.10) and a width at half maximum (FWHM) of about 60 nm at high current density of 100 mA/cm2 (35 V). A new X‐shaped π‐conjugated monomer comprising of fluorene units and anthracene units was synthesized, and it was used to fabricate the new X‐shaped π‐conjugated polymers and investigate the properties of the new polymers. Using different molar ratios between such monomer and a fluorene monomer gave three polymers that showed higher absolute PL quantum yields than the linear polyfluorene (PF) in the solid state. After thermal annealing at 200 °C for 4 h, the linear PF showed an additional bathochromic emission at about 550 nm, whereas such red‐shifted emission was fully eliminated for the X‐shaped polymers. The electroluminescent devices based on the X‐shaped polymers with a configuration of ITO/PEDOT:PSS/polymer/LiF/Ca/Al displayed blue emission with low turn‐on voltage and high brightness. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
