It is shown that, in the standard framework of non-relativistic quantum mechanics, the presence of a magnetic field implies that there are no operators representing those translations or rotations that do not leave invariant the magnetic field, and the corresponding components of the linear or angular momentum are undefined.

Familiar quantum mechanics assumes a fixed spacetime geometry. Quantummechanics must therefore be generalized for quantum gravity where spacetime geometry is not fixed but rather a quantum variable. Persistence is studied in a financial context by mapping the time
evolution of the values of the shares quoted on the London Financial
Times Stock Exchange 100 index (FTSE 100) onto Ising spins.
By following the time dependence
of the spins, we find evidence for power law decay of the proportion
of shares that remain either above or below their 'starting'
values. As a result, we estimate a persistence exponent for the

We study global symmetry breaking in the 2D system of scalar nonconserved order parameter following a quench to zero temperature. We show that the instant of time when the symmetry is broken and the final morphology is chosen corresponds to the saturation of the order parameter inside the domains. There are three possible final morphologies: the positive and negative order parameter final morphology, and the state of the coexisting positive and negative order parameter subsystems with a flat interface between them. We find also that each type of the final morphology constitutes about 1/3 of all cases, what agrees with the results obtained recently by Spirin et al. [Phys. Rev. E 65, 016119 (2001)]. Our results are pertinent for the two dimensional systems, but we suspect that there is also a way to apply similar arguments for the three dimensional ones. 相似文献

In this paper N = 4 supersymmetry of generalized Morse oscillators in one dimension is studied. Both bound states and scattering states of its four superpartner Hamiltonians are analyzed by using unitary irreducible representations of the noncompact Lie algebra su(1,1). The spectrum-generating algebra governing the Hamiltonian of the N = 4 supersymmetric Morse oscillator is shown to be connected with the realization of Lie superalgebra osp(1,2)or B(0,1) in terms of the variables of a supersymmetric two-dimensional harmonic oscillator. 相似文献

Existing experimental studies of the thermal denaturation of DNA yield sharp steps in the melting curve suggesting that the
melting transition is first order. This transition has been theoretically studied since the early sixties, mostly within an
approach in which the microscopic configurations of a DNA molecule consist of an alternating sequence of non-interacting bound
segments and denaturated loops. Studies of these models neglect the repulsive, self-avoiding, interaction between different
loops and segments and have invariably yielded continuous denaturation transitions. In the present study we take into account
in an approximate way the excluded-volume interaction between denaturated loops and the rest of the chain. This is done by
exploiting recent results on scaling properties of polymer networks of arbitrary topology. We also ignore the heterogeneity
of the polymer. We obtain a first-order melting transition in d = 2 dimensions and above, consistent with the experimental results. We also consider within our approach the unzipping transition,
which takes place when the two DNA strands are pulled apart by an external force acting on one end. We find that the under
equilibrium condition the unzipping transition is also first order. Although the denaturation and unzipping transitions are
thermodynamically first order, they do exhibit critical fluctuations in some of their properties. For instance, the loop size
distribution decays algebraically at the transition and the length of the denaturated end segment diverges as the transition
is approached. We evaluate these critical properties within our approach.
