Interpretation of the Quantum Measurement: Example of a Linearly Coupled Harmonic Oscillator

We argue that it may be possible to consistently explain the quantum measurement by assuming that the wave function is in one-to-one correspondence with objective physical reality and has no probabilistic interpretation. In the context of such approach we consider the model of a harmonic oscillator linearly coupled to a heat bath and treat the oscillator as the system being measured. Three classes of initial pure states for the bath are considered. Exact expressions for the average values and variances of the oscillator coordinate and momentum as functions of time are considered for each class of pure states. It is shown that these quantities exhibit different asymptotic behavior for different classes of initial states of the bath. In particular, if each mode of the bath is initially in a coherent state, then for an arbitrary initial state of the oscillator the variances of the oscillator coordinate and momentum asymptotically approach the same values as for a coherent state of the free oscillator, while the averages of coordinate and momentum show a Brownian-like behavior. We argue that such behavior shows several features of the quantum measurement and supports our interpretation of the wave function.     

A new approach to obtain the non-Condon factors in closed form for two one-dimensional harmonic oscillators

A simple algebraic approach to calculate general Franck-Condon overlaps is extended to evaluate non-Condon factors for two one-dimensional harmonic oscillators. The method is based on the use of eigenstates of the harmonic oscillator annihilation operator which allows to obtain in terms of a multi-dimensional Hermite polynomial the overlap of harmonic oscillator functions associated with different Born-Oppenheimer potentials. The presented approach is self-contained, only basic concepts of quantum mechanics associated with the harmonic oscillator system are needed. The obtained expression for the Franck-Condon overlaps is similar to the Ansbacher’s formula and equivalent to the one calculated by Malkin and Man’ko. However our final expression has the advantages that only real numbers are involved and it is straightforward to get the limit case of equal frequencies. Concerning the non-Condon factors two approaches leading to different formulas are considered, both of which reduce to triple sums of products of three Hermite polynomials.     

Nonextensive Statistical Mechanics Application to Vibrational Dynamics of Protein Folding

The vibrational dynamics of protein folding is analyzed in the framework of Tsallis statistics. We employ exact expressions for classical harmonic oscillators by considering the unnormalized constraints. As q→1, we show that these approximations agree with the result of Gaussian network model.     

Mid-infrared generation based on a periodically poled LiNbO3 optical parametric oscillator

We report a nanosecond Nd:YVO_4-pumped optical parametric oscillator (OPO) based on periodically poled LiNbO_3 (PPLN). Tuning is achieved in this experiment by varying the temperature and period of the PPLN. The design of double-pass singly resonant oscillator (DSRO) and confocal cavity enables the OPO threshold to be lowered considerably, resulting in a simple, compact, all-solid-state configuration with the mid-infrared idler powers of up to 466mW at 3.41μm.     

光突发交换的交换控制策略和光缓存配置

光突发交换是面向下一代互联网的光交换模式.讨论了异步光突发交换系统的交换控制策略以及相应光缓存的优化配置策略.除了传统预约模式的交换策略,还研究了非预约和改进型预约模式,它们的性能评估由计算机仿真给出.结果表明:在条件相当情况下,改进型预约模式具有最低的丢包率.同时光缓存的配置对上述几类交换控制策略的性能都有很大影响,仿真结果指出:光缓存的粒度对系统性能具有重要影响,所讨论的几类交换模式都存在最佳时延粒度,研究结果对光交换矩阵的设计有指导意义.     

Krylov-Bogolyubov averaging of asymptotically autonomous differential equations

We apply the Krylov and Bogolyubov asymptotic integration procedure to asymptotically autonomous systems. First, we consider linear systems with quasi-periodic coefficient matrix multiplied by a scalar factor vanishing at infinity. Next, we study the asymptotically autonomous Van-der-Pol oscillator.

     

二维椭圆型方程反问题中优化算法的比较

近年来，决定椭圆型方程系数反问题在地磁、地球物理、冶金和生物等实际问题上有着广泛的应用．本文讨论了二维的决定椭圆型方程系数反问题的数值求解方法．由误差平方和最小原则，这个反问题可化为一个变分问题，并进一步离散化为一个最优化问题，其目标函数依赖于要决定的方程系数．本文着重考察非线性共轭梯度法在此最优化问题数值计算中的表现，并与拟牛顿法作为对比．为了提高算法的效率我们适当选择加快收敛速度的预处理矩阵．同时还考察了线搜索方法的不同对优化算法的影响．数值实验的结果表明，非线性共轭梯度法在这类大规模优化问题中相对于拟牛顿法更有效．     

High-Power CO2 Laser System with Repetition Rate Operation for High Current Multicharged Heavy Ion Generations

Experimental and numerical calculation results devoted to development of an optical system for an ion source based on a repetition rate CO₂ laser are described. The laser chain consists of a master oscillator, gas absorber cells, and a four-pass amplifier. The optical system provides smooth laser pulses with variable duration and high spatial quality that ensures efficiency for plasma heating and ion generation. The parameters of the plasma ion component measured in the CERN laboratory are applied for a lead target illumination.     

A Semiconductor Laser of the Visible Range as an Exciting Source of Raman Scattering

A possibility of application of semiconductor lasers of the visible range as exciting sources for Raman spectroscopy is studied. An experimental set-up for measuring Raman spectra of polycrystalline dielectrics and broad-gap semiconductors excited by a semiconductor laser with a wavelength of 640 nm was created. The conditions under which the spectral width of the lasing line of a semiconductor laser was within 10^-3 cm^-1 in the continuous mode with a power of 10 mW are realized. The characteristics of various types of exciting sources used in Raman spectroscopy are compared. The results of studies of the characteristic Raman spectra excited with a semiconductor laser in polycrystalline sulfur are presented.
