Old and recent results concerning Harnack inequalities for divergence form operators are reviewed. In particular, the characterization of the parabolic Harnack principle by simple geometric properties -Poincaré inequality and doubling property- is discussed at length. It is shown that these two properties suffice to apply Moser's iterative technique.  相似文献

Thermal diffusivity, heat capacity, and density of polyvinyl chloride/polycaprolactone (PVC/PCL) blends were measured by the laser flash method, DSC, and pycnometry, respectively. The thermal conductivity of the PVC/PCL blends was determined from the results. The miscibility of the blend and crystallinity of PCL were determined by DSC. The effect of blend structure on thermal conductivity is discussed. The phase compositions of the PVC/PCL blends are of three types depending on PCL content: i.e., up to 33%, from 33 to 70%, and above 70% PCL by weight. Thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity, and heat capacity of the PVC/PCL blends are strongly affected by the phase composition of the blend, which changes in a complicated way with PCL content. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Thermotropic copolyester fibers of oxynaphthoate and oxybenzoate have been subjected to conditions that promote solid-state polymerization as well as annealing. The annealing process causes the crystals to perfect with a simultaneous increase in heat of fusion and melting temperature. Solid-state polymerization, a reaction rate-controlled process, causes the polymer viscosity average molecular weight to increase by chain extension from about 14,000 g/mole to more than 87,000 g/mole with a simultaneous impressive increase in tenacity from about 10 g/d (1.2 GPa) to almost 30 g/d (3.7 GPa). To understand the changes in mechanical properties, we have modeled the fiber structure as short rod-like molecules poorly bonded to a continuous matrix of parallel molecules. Lengthening of the reinforcing molecules facilitates better transfer of load from matrix to molecules, resulting in higher tenacity fibers. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

The majority of previous studies of the hydration of cements using heat flow calorimetry have been carried out isothermally. However, with oilwell cements the slurry is mixed on the surface at ambient temperature and then gradually increases in temperature as it is pumped down the well. A Setaram C-80 calorimeter has been used to simulate the temperature ramp in API oilwell cement test schedules. This approach has enabled cementing reactions to be studied for the first time under conditions approaching those encountered in the field, and has shown that the results obtained from isothermal experiments may be misleading.The permission of the British Petroleum Company PLC to publish this paper is gratefully acknowledged.  相似文献

Pancreatic cancer has an extremely poor prognosis, due, in part, to lack of methods for early diagnosis. The present study was designed to evaluate the potential of labeling low‐density lipoprotein (LDL) with a radionuclide using a lipid chelating agent, bis(stearylamide) of diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (L), to detect pancreatic tumors by gamma‐scintigraphy. Previous studies indicated that the difficulty of visualization of pancreatic tumors was due to their poor vascularization. This study compares the ability of two radiotracers, 111In–L–LDL and 153Gd–L–LDL to target highly vascularized rat pancreatic tumors (AR4‐2J) implanted in nude mice. Biodistribution studies showed that the tumor uptake of 111In–L–LDL and 153Gd–L–LDL tracers was twofold and fivefold higher respectively than with the controls (111In citrate and 153Gd citrate respectively). These tracers would thus be suitable for scintigraphic imaging. We show here that LDL could be employed as a delivery system for tracers such as 111In or 153Gd when these two radionuclides are complexed by a lipid‐chelating anchor, and that 111In–L–LDL and 153Gd–L–LDL enabled better visualization of the pancreatic tumor tissues, with a better result with 153Gd–L–LDL. We study elliptic systems of strongly nonlinear first-order differential equations in complex form on the plane. For such systems we develop the theory of Hilbert boundary value problems which is very much similar to the well-known theory for a holomorphic vector. Systems of nonlinear elliptic equations describe problems of interaction of several nonlinear stationary processes in the diffusive and convective mass and heat transport by hydrodynamic fluid flows.  相似文献

The Zaremba boundary-value problem is a boundary value problem for Laplace-type second-order partial differential operators acting on smooth sections of a vector bundle over a smooth compact Riemannian manifold with smooth boundary but with discontinuous boundary conditions, which include Dirichlet boundary conditions on one part of the boundary and Neumann boundary conditions on another part of the boundary. We study the heat kernel asymptotics of Zaremba boundary value problem. The construction of the asymptotic solution of the heat equation is described in detail and the heat kernel is computed explicitly in the leading approximation. Some of the first nontrivial coefficients of the heat kernel asymptotic expansion are computed explicitly. Finite chains of a two-state random Potts spin model with periodic boundary conditions are studied within Glauber dynamics. The spin exchange is assumed random with frustration between ferro and antiferromagnetic values (±J). Time-dependent fluctuations are induced by periodic temperature oscillations. Master type differential equations for spin correlation functions are solved within linear response theory. The spectrum of relaxation times are calculated at different temperatures. The ±J Potts glass chains undergo a zero temperature phase transition. The barriers against inversion of the spin chain take only two values; 0 and 2|J|. The temperature behaviour of specific heat is characterized by rounded peaks. The frequency dependence displays two plateaus for the real part of specific heat and two corresponding peaks for the imaginary part. The dynamic specific heat is not affected by the longest relaxing mode like susceptibility. The time separation of the modes is demonstrated by the Cole-Cole plots.  相似文献
