An asymptotic minimax risk bound for estimation of a linear functional relationship

We consider estimation of the parameter B in a multivariate linear functional relationship X_i=ξ_i+ξ_1i, Y_i=Bξ_i+ξ_2i, i=1,…,n, where the errors (ζ_1i^′, ζ_2i^′) are independent standard normal and (ξ_i, i ) is a sequence of unknown nonrandom vectors (incidental parameters). If there are no substantial a priori restrictions on the infinite sequence of incidental parameters then asymptotically the model is nonparametric but does not fit into common settings presupposing a parameter from a metric function space. A special result of the local asymptotic minimax type for the m.1.e. of B is proved. The accuracy of the normal approximation for the m.l.e. of order n^−1/2 is also established.     

Linear response and relaxation in quantum lattice systems

For spin-lattice systems, the Kubo formula, expressing the relaxation function in terms of the linear response function, is found to be exact in the thermodynamic limit. In addition, analyticity properties are obtained.     

Non-Static Local String in Higher-Dimensional Gravity

We analyze the space-time structure of local gauge string with a phenomenological energy–momentum tensor, as prescribed by Vilenkin, in an arbitrary number of space-time dimensions with a non-zero cosmological constant Λ. A set of solutions of the full non-linear Einstein's equations for the interior region of such a string is presented.     

De Broglie Tired Light Model and the Reality of the Quantum Waves

In the early 1960s of the 20th century de Broglie was able to explain the cosmological observable red shift, without ad hoc assumptions. Starting from basic quantum considerations he developed his tired light model for the photon. This model explains in a single and beautiful causal way the cosmological redshift without need of assuming the Big Bang and consequently a beginning for the universe. Evidence coming from Earth sciences seems also to confirm these ideas and furthermore concrete proposal of laboratorial scale experiments that can test the model are reviewed.     

Local generalized empirical estimation of regression

Let f(x) be the density of a design variable X and m(x) = E[Y\X = x] the regression function. Then m(x) - G(x)/f(x), where G(x) = m(x)f(x). The Dirac δ-function is used to define a generalized empirical function Gn (x) for G(x) whose expectation equals G(x). This generalized empirical function exists only in the space of Schwartz distributions, so we introduce a local polynomial of order p approximation to Gn(.) which provides estimators of the function G(x) and its derivatives. The density f(x) can be estimated in a similar manner. The resulting local generalized empirical estimator (LGE) of m(x) is exactly the Nadaraya-Watson estimator at interior points when p = 1, but on the boundary the estimator automatically corrects the boundary effect. Asymptotic normality of the estimator is established. Asymptotic expressions for the mean squared errors are obtained and used in bandwidth selection. Boundary behavior of the estimators is investigated in details. We use Monte Carlo simulations to show that the

Locally homogeneous affine connections on compact surfaces

Global properties of locally homogeneous and curvature homogeneous affine connections are studied. It is proved that the only locally homogeneous connections on surfaces of genus different from 1 are metric connections of constant curvature. There exist nonmetrizable nonlocally symmetric locally homogeneous affine connections on the torus of genus 1. It is proved that there is no global affine immersion of the torus endowed with a nonflat locally homogeneous connection into .
