Extended thermodynamics is based on a set of equations of balance which are supplemented by local and instantaneous constitutive equations so that the field equations are quasi-linear differential equations of first order. If the constitutive functions are subject to the requirements of the entropy principle, one may write them in symmetric hyperbolic form by a suitable choice of fields. The kinetic theory of gases, or the moment theories based on the Boltzmann equation, provide an explicit example for extended thermodynamics. The theory proves its usefulness and practicality in the successful treatment of light scattering in rarefied gases. It would seem that extended thermodynamics is worthy of the attention of mathematicians. It may offer them a non-trivial field of study concerning hyperbolic equations, if ever they get tired of the Burgers equation. An indenofluorene‐based copolymer containing blue‐, green‐, and red light‐emitting moieties was synthesized by Suzuki polymerization and examined for application in white organic light‐emitting diodes (WOLEDs). Tetraoctylindenofluorene (IF), 2,1,3‐benzothiadiazole (BT), and 4,7‐bis(2‐thienyl)‐2,1,3‐benzothiadiazole (DBT) derivatives were used as the blue‐, green‐, and red‐light emitting structures, respectively. The number‐average molecular weight of the polymer was determined to be 25,900 g/mol with a polydispersity index of 2.02. The polymer was thermally stable (Td = ~398 °C) and quite soluble in common organic solvents, forming an optical‐quality film by spin casting. The EL characteristics were fine‐tuned from the single copolymer through incomplete fluorescence energy transfer by adjusting the composition of the red/green/blue units in the copolymer. The EL device using the indenofluorene‐based copolymer containing 0.01 mol % BT and 0.02 mol % DBT units ( PIF‐BT01‐DBT02 ) showed a maximum brightness of 4088 cd/m2 at 8 V and a maximum current efficiency of 0.36 cd/A with Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of (0.34, 0.32). The EL emission of PIF‐BT01‐DBT02 was stable with respect to changes in voltage. The color emitted was dependent on the thickness of the active polymer layer; layer (~60 nm) too thin was unsuitable for realizing WOLED via energy transfer. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 2,7‐dibromo‐N‐hexylcarbazole is successfully synthesized in three steps with an overall 37% yield. Novel 2,7‐carbazole‐based sterically hindered conjugated polymers are further synthesized. In the backbone structure of polymer P1 , alkylated bithiophene moiety is β‐substituted with dodecyl chains on both thiophene rings, adopting the tail‐to‐tail configuration. While for polymers P2 and P3 , partially planarized thieno[3,2‐b]thiophene moiety ( P2 ) and β‐pentyl substituted thieno[3,2‐b]thiophene ( P3 ) are incorporated. All polymers demonstrate efficient blue‐to‐green light emission, good thermal stability (Td ≥ 379 °C), and high glass transition temperatures (Tg = 118 °C). The optical and electronic properties of the resulted polymers are tuned by the incorporated alkyl chains. For instance, the incorporation of β‐pentyl group in thieno[3,2‐b]thiophene moiety endows P3 with blue‐shifted photophysical spectra, reduced fluorescence quantum yield and larger band gap in comparison with P2 . The steric effect of incorporated alkyl chains is further illustrated by geometry optimization of three model oligomers (analogues to the repetition units of P1–P3 ) using density functional theory. Sterically hindered polymers P1 and P2 exhibit high charge transport ability and moderate electroluminescent properties in primarily tested single‐layer light‐emitting diodes (configuration: ITO/PEDOT:PSS/Polymer/Ca/Ag). © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. New routes to ladder‐type phenylene materials 1 and 2 are described. The oligomers 1 and 2 , which possess a “3π‐2spiro” architecture, have been synthesized by using extended diketone derivatives 3 and 10 as key intermediates. The physicochemical properties of the new blue‐light emitter 2 were studied in detail and compared with those of the less‐extended 1 . Owing to the recent development of fluorenone derivatives and their corresponding more conjugated analogues as potential electron‐transport materials in organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs) and as n‐type materials for photovoltaic applications, we also report herein the thermal, optical and electrochemical behavior of the key intermediates, diketones 3 and 10 . Finally, the application of dispiro 2 as a new light‐emitting material in OLEDs is reported.  相似文献

Copolyfluorenes ( PFR1 and PFR2 ), chemically doped with 0.1 and 0.025 mol % 2,5‐dihexyloxy‐1,4‐bis(2‐thienyl‐2‐cyanovinyl)benzene (MR chromophere) were synthesized by the Suzuki coupling reaction. The PFR s were used to fabricate white‐light‐emitting devices through incomplete energy transfer. Because of the low content of the MR chromophore, the optical, thermal, and electrochemical properties of the PFR s were almost identical to those of polyfluorene, except for their photoluminescent (PL) and electroluminescent (EL) properties. The copolymer films showed PL peaks at about 428 and 570 nm originating from fluorene segments and MR chromophores, respectively. Compared with the model compound ( MR ), the polymer chains extended the conjugation length of the MR chromophores and exhibited a 20–48 nm red‐shift in the emission band. In addition, the lower LUMO level of the MR (?3.27 eV) was expected to improve the electron injection. The EL devices [ITO/PEDOT:PSS/ PFR s/Ca (50 nm)/Al (100 nm)] showed a broad emission band, covering the entire visible region, with chromaticity coordinates of (0.36, 0.35) and (0.32, 0.30) for PFR1 and PFR2 devices, respectively. The emission color of the PFR2 device was very similar to that of a pure white light (0.33, 0.33); and the maximal brightness and current efficiency were 3011 cd/m2 and 1.98 cd/A, respectively, which surpass those found for polyfluorene devices (1005 cd/m2, 0.28 cd/A). We report on slow light propagation induced by the coherent population oscillation in an erbium-doped optical fiber (EDOF). The slowdown of group velocity of light is demonstrated in a solid-state material at room temperature. We observe a maximum fractional delay of 0.129 and a maximum delay of 8.75 ms corresponding to a group velocity as low as 228.57 m/s in a sinusoid-like modulated waveform. We study in details the influences of the erbium ion density and the length of fiber on the fractional delay and the slow light propagation. The data show that the fractional delay can be increased using the fiber with high erbium ions density or long interaction length.  相似文献

Two relativistic potential models are applied to describe meson spectroscopy in a unified way, encompassing both light and heavy quark systems. A combination of linear and coulomb potentials has been investigated for Klein-Gordon equation using the WKB approximation. A power-like phenomenological potential model has also been studied in the Klein-Gordon framework. Meson masses calculated for both the potentials give a good agreement with the corresponding experimental values.  相似文献
