This paper explores an elemental connection between call options-the most commonly tradable financial derivatives, implied volatility term structures-critical “market information” emanating from call-option prices, and the Pietra index-a quantitative economic measure of societal egalitarianism. Our study: (i) unveils an intrinsic “Pietra structure” of call-option prices; (ii) introduces the notion of the “Pietra term structures” of financial assets; (iii) describes the probabilistic meaning of the Pietra term structures; (iv) establishes an explicit nonlinear one-to-one mapping between the Pietra term structures and the implied volatility term structures of financial assets. The results presented in this paper provide a deep insight into the econophysics of call options and implied volatility term structures.  相似文献

This paper deals with a discrete Nicholson's blowflies model with linear harvesting term. By using contraction mapping fixed point theorem, we obtain sufficient conditions for the existence of unique almost periodic positive solution. This article studies bounded traveling wave solutions of variant Boussinesq equation with a dissipation term and dissipation effect on them. Firstly, we make qualitative analysis to the bounded traveling wave solutions for the above equation by the theory and method of planar dynamical systems, and obtain their existent conditions, number, and general shape. Secondly, we investigate the dissipation effect on the shape evolution of bounded traveling wave solutions. We find out a critical value r*which can characterize the scale of dissipation effect, and prove that the bounded traveling wave solutions appear as kink profile waves if |r| ≥ r*; while they appear as damped oscillatory waves if |r| r*. We also obtain kink profile solitary wave solutions with and without dissipation effect. On the basis of the above discussion, we sensibly design the structure of the approximate damped oscillatory solutions according to the orbits evolution relation corresponding to the component u(ξ) in the global phase portraits, and then obtain the approximate solutions(u(ξ), H(ξ)). Furthermore,by using homogenization principle, we give their error estimates by establishing the integral equation which reflects the relation between exact and approximate solutions. Finally, we discuss the dissipation effect on the amplitude, frequency, and energy decay of the bounded traveling wave solutions.  相似文献

The inherent heterogeneities of many geophysical systems often gives rise to fast and slow pathways to water and chemical movement. One approach to model solute transport through such media is by fractional diffusion equations with a space–time dependent variable coefficient. In this paper, a two-sided space fractional diffusion model with a space–time dependent variable coefficient and a nonlinear source term subject to zero Dirichlet boundary conditions is considered.Some finite volume methods to solve a fractional differential equation with a constant dispersion coefficient have been proposed. The spatial discretisation employs fractionally-shifted Grünwald formulas to discretise the Riemann–Liouville fractional derivatives at control volume faces in terms of function values at the nodes. However, these finite volume methods have not been extended to two-dimensional and three-dimensional problems in a natural manner. In this paper, a new weighted fractional finite volume method with a nonlocal operator (using nodal basis functions) for solving this two-sided space fractional diffusion equation is proposed. Some numerical results for the Crank–Nicholson fractional finite volume method are given to show the stability, consistency and convergence of our computational approach. This novel simulation technique provides excellent tools for practical problems even when a complex transition zone is involved. This technique can be extend to two-dimensional and three-dimensional problems with complex regions.  相似文献

The indirect vicinal proton–proton coupling constants for pyrrole, furan, thiophene and 15 related heteroaromatic compounds were calculated using the Khon–Sham approximation. An analysis of the four Ramsey contributions to the coupling constants was carried out showing that the Fermi contact term is always positive and dominant, although the remaining contributions have a nonnegligible net negative contribution. The trends observed for the proton–proton coupling constants were rationalized in terms of the properties of the electron density. It was found that electron delocalization between the corresponding hydrogen atoms plays a major role on the observed behavior with the charges of the carbon atoms bonded to them and the accompanying geometric variations being also of importance in the coupling mechanism. We obtain some characterizations of linear operators that preserve the term rank of Boolean matrices. That is, a linear operator over Boolean matrices preserves the term rank if and only if it preserves the term ranks 1 and k(≠1) if and only if it preserves the term ranks 2 and l(≠2). Characteristic formulations for boundary conditions have demonstrated their effectiveness to handle inlets and outlets, especially to avoid acoustic wave reflections. At walls, however, most authors use simple Dirichlet or Neumann boundary conditions, where the normal velocity (or pressure gradient) is set to zero. This paper demonstrates that there are significant differences between characteristic and Dirichlet methods at a wall and that simulations are more stable when using walls modelled with a characteristic wave decomposition. The derivation of characteristic methods yields an additional boundary term in the continuity equation, which explains their increased stability. This term also allows to handle the two acoustic waves going towards and away from the wall in a consistent manner. Those observations are confirmed by stability matrix analysis and one‐ and two‐dimensional simulations of acoustic modes in cavities. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献
