Functional zinc(II) phthalocyanines bearing Schiff base complexes as oxidation catalysts for bleaching systems

Oxidation catalysis is used to increase the performance of hydrogen peroxide in laundry bleach applications. Bleach catalysts provide cost‐effective, energy‐saving and environmentally friendly bleach systems yielding perfect stain removal at lower temperatures. This comparative study is based on the synthesis of bis[bis(salicylhydrazonephenoxy)manganese(III)] phthalocyaninatozinc(II) ( 2 ), bis[bis(salicylhydrazonephenoxy)cobalt(III)] phthalocyaninatozinc(II) ( 3 ) and bis[bis(salicylhydrazonephenoxy)iron(III)] phthalocyaninatozinc(II) ( 4 ) as tri‐nuclear complexes consisting of two Schiff base complexes substituting a zinc phthalocyanine. Complexion on the periphery to obtain complexes 2 , 3 , 4 was performed through the reaction of a Schiff base‐substituted phthalocyanine using MnCl₂?4H₂O, CoCl₂?6H₂O or FeCl₃?6H₂O salts in basic condition in dimethylformamide. Fourier transform infrared, ¹H NMR, ¹³C NMR, UV–visible, inductively coupled plasma optical emission and mass spectra were applied to characterize the prepared compounds. The bleach performances of the three phthalocyanine compounds 2 , 3 , 4 were examined by the degradation of morin as hydrophilic dye. The degradation progress in the presence of catalysts 2 , 3 , 4 /H₂O₂ combination in aqueous solution was investigated using an online spectrophotometric method. It was found that the catalysts 2 , 3 , 4 exhibited better bleaching performance at 25 °C than tetraactylethylethylenediamine as bleach activator used in powder detergent formulations for stain removal. Dissociative excitation cross sections of the lead atom in collisions between electrons and PbI2 molecules

Dissociative excitation of the lead atom in e-PbI₂ collisions has been studied experimentally. 27 excitation cross sections were measured for an energy of the exciting electrons equal to 100 eV. Nine optical excitation functions were recorded with variation of the electron energy in the range 0–100 eV. The most probable reaction channels for low electron energies are discussed, as well as the ratio of the dissociative excitation cross sections for the lead atom in e-PbI₂ and e-PbCl₂ collisions. __________ Translated from Zhurnal Prikladnoi Spektroskopii, Vol. 73, No. 6, pp. 701–706, November–December, 2006.     

Radiochemical proton activation analysis for the determination of cadmium and lead in sediment reference materials

Proton activation analysis was used for the determination of cadmium and lead in three sediment reference materials. The method is based on the^111,112Cd(p, xn)¹¹¹ In and the^206,207,208Pb(p, xn)²⁰⁶Bi reactions.¹¹¹In and²⁰⁶Bi were chemically separated by anion exchange. The results obtained were taken into account for the certification of the materials and are in the excellent agreement with the certified values.     

The synthesis of azo compounds from nitro compounds using lead and triethylammonium formate

Aromatic nitro compounds were reduced to the corresponding symmetrically substituted azo compounds using lead as catalyst and triethylammonium formate as hydrogen donor. Various azo compounds containing additional reducible substituents including halogens, nitrile, acid, phenol, ester, methoxy functions, etc, have been synthesized in a single step by the use of this reagent. The conversion is reasonably fast, clean, high yielding and occurs at room temperature in methanol.

Crystallographic report: Bis(norfloxacin)dilead(II) tetranitrate, [Pb2(H‐Norf)2(ONO2)4]

The centrosymmetric binuclear structure of [Pb₂(H‐Norf)₂(ONO₂)₄]shows the geometry around each lead(II) atom to be distorted trigonal bipyramidal with Pb–O distances ranging from 2.357(3) to 2.769(4) Å. Copyright © 2003 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Precipitation and characterization of uniform submicrometer lead titanate particles. Part II: Reaction mechanism

The chemical mechanism of the precipitation of lead titanium peroxohydroxide particles in a solution of nitrilotriacetate (NTA) complexes of lead and titanium peroxo-hydroxide is envisioned as the interaction between cations of lead hydroxide and anions of polymeric titanium peroxo-hydroxide.

Effect of post-metallization annealing on the ferroelectric properties of sol-gel derived PZT thin films

A series of monolithic Pt-PZT-Pt capacitors was prepared based on sol-gel derived PZT 53/47 films fired to 700 C. After deposition of top Pt electrodes, the capacitors were subjected to post-metallization annealing (PMA) temperatures of 100 C to 700 C. Dielectric and ferroelectric (FE) characterizations were performed. Increasing the PMA temperature produced lower values of spontaneous and remanent polarizations, dielectric constant and leakage currents. The observations are correlated with a proposed FE capacitor model.
