For mixed-type systems of conservation laws, rarefaction waves may contain states at the boundary of the elliptic region, where two characteristic speeds coincide, and the Lax family of the wave changes. Such contiguous rarefaction waves form a single fan with a continuous profile. Different pairs of families may appear in such rarefactions, giving rise to novel Riemann solution structures. We study the structure of such rarefaction waves near regular and exceptional points of the elliptic boundary and describe their effect on Riemann solutions.  相似文献

By applying a direct symmetry method, we get the symmetry of the asymmetric Nizhnik-Novikov-Veselov equation (ANNV). Taking the special case, we have a finite-dimensional symmetry. By using the equivalent vector of the symmetry, we construct an eight-dimensional symmetry algebra and get the optimal system of group-invariant solutions. To every case of the optimal system, we reduce the ANNV equation and obtain some solutions to the reduced equations. Furthermore, we find some new explicit solutions of the ANNV equation. At last, we give the conservation laws of the ANNV equation.  相似文献

Under investigation in this paper are two coupled integrable dispersionless (CID) equations modeling the dynamics of the current-fed string within an external magnetic field. Through a set of the dependent variable transformations, the bilinear forms for the CID equations are derived. Based on the Hirota method and symbolic computation, the analytic N-soliton solutions are presented. Infinitely many conservation laws for the CID equations are given through the known spectral problem. Propagationcharacteristics and interaction behaviors of the solitons are analyzed graphically.  相似文献

We study, on a square lattice, an extension to fully coordinated percolation which we call iterated fully coordinated percolation. In fully coordinated percolation, sites become occupied if all four of its nearest neighbors are also occupied. Repeating this site selection process again yields the iterated fully coordinated percolation model. Our results show a large enhancement in the size of highly connected regions after each iteration (from ordinary to fully coordinated and then to iterated fully coordinated percolation); enhancements that are much larger than an extension of correlations by an extra lattice constant might suggest. We also study the universality among the three problems by determining the corresponding static and dynamic critical exponents. Specifically, a new method to directly calculate the walk dimension, d w , using finite size scaling applied to normal mode analysis is used. This method is applicable to any geometry and requires significantly less computation than previously known calculations to determine d w .  相似文献

Divergence-measure fields are extended vector fields, including vector fields inL p and vector-valued Radon measures, whose divergences are Radon measures. Such fields arise naturally in the study of entropy solutions of nonlinear conservation laws and other areas. In this paper, a theory of divergence-measure fields is presented and analyzed, in which normal traces, a generalized Gauss-Green theorem, and product rules, among others, are established. Some applications of this theory to several nonlinear problems in conservation laws and related areas are discussed. In particular, with the aid of this theory, we prove the stability of Riemann solutions, which may contain rarefaction waves, contact discontinuities, and/or vacuum states, in the class of entropy solutions of the Euler equations for gas dynamics.Dedicated to Constantine Dafermos on his 60th birthday  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to give a simple proof of the classical Liu estimate on the decay of positive waves in a solution of a n×n system of conservation laws. In the first part, we transcribe the wave partition technique introduced in Comm. Math. Phys. 57 (1977), 135–148 (by means of the Glimm scheme) to the case of approximate solutions constructed by the wave front tracking scheme. Then, we use a decoupling argument on the characteristic speeds to establish the desired estimate.  相似文献

The achievable-region approach, based on strong conservation laws, has most often been applied to stochastic scheduling and other control problems in the context of performance measures that are steady-state expected quantities. For some problems, however, strong conservation laws hold for performance measures at every time point on every sample path. We exploit this property to study optimal control for certain scheduling problems on a sample-path basis. Examples include preemptive scheduling to minimize a weighted sum of work in the system in each class, nonpreemptive scheduling to minimize a weighted sum of the number of customers in each class (when all classes have the same service-time distribution), and scheduling the processing of fluid in a multiclass fluid system operating in a random environment. The last problem is solved by considering the related Skorohod problem and its minimal solution. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

Summary. We derive a hierarchy of models for gas-liquid two-phase flows in the limit of infinite density ratio, when the liquid is assumed to be incompressible. The starting model is a system of nonconservative conservation laws with relaxation. At first order in the density ratio, we get a simplified system with viscosity, while at the limit we obtain a system of two conservation laws, the system of pressureless gases with constraint and undetermined pressure. Formal properties of this constraint model are provided, and sticky blocks solutions are introduced. We propose numerical methods for this last model, and the results are compared with the two previous models.
