We study the stability and the convergence for a class of relaxing numerical schemes for conservation laws. Following the approach recently proposed by S. Jin and Z. Xin we use a semilinear local relaxation approximation, with a stiff lower order term, and we construct some numerical first and second order accurate algorithms, which are uniformly bounded in the L and BV norms with respect to the relaxation parameter. The multiplier approach is used to derive the conservation laws for the system of three boundary layer equations for the velocity components governing flow in laminar axisymmetric jet flows with weak swirl. We show that the laws imposing such an expression define specific varietal properties. For a property 𝒫 we consider a subset U(𝒫) ? F such that every law of the form [x, y ?1] ≡ u, u ∈ U(𝒫) provides the varietal property 𝒫. This article presents differential equations for locomotive force and velocity during cross-country skiing. A muscle's work power is modelled. Thereafter, a locomotive force that depends on the skier's velocity is constructed. The external forces aerodynamic drag, friction forces and the force of gravity are incorporated in order to provide the equation of motion. Some allometric mass scaling relations are established and used to analyse the effect of a skier's mass on velocity. The model is tested by using a GPS instrument. We compare analytically and experimentally determined skiing distances and velocities as functions of time, and under different conditions. The article provides tools useful for practising athletes and coaches.  相似文献

Two numerical methods for a one‐dimensional haptotaxis model, which exploit the use of van Leer flux limiter, are developed and analyzed. Sufficient conditions time step size and flux limiting are given for such formulation to ensure the non‐negativity of the discrete solution and second‐order accuracy in space. Another advantage is that we avoid solving large nonlinear systems of algebraic equations. The discrete preservation of total conservation of cell density, concentration, and logarithmic density is also verified for the numerical solution. Numerical results concerning accuracy, convergence rate, positivity, and conservation properties are presented and discussed. In this work, we study invariant properties of defect potentials that are capable of describing defect motions in a continuum. By formulating two canonical defect theories, a generalized Nye theory and the Kröner–de Wit theory, we have found three defect potentials that are variational, i.e. their associated Euler–Lagrange equations are differential compatibility conditions of the continuum and defects. Consequently, symmetry properties of these variational functionals render several classes of new conservation laws and invariant integrals that are related with continuum compatibility conditions, which are independent of the constitutive relations of the continuum. The contour integral of the corresponding conserved quantity is path-independent, if the domain encompassed by such an integral is specifically defect-free. The invariant integral is applied to study macroscopically brittle fracture, and a multiscale Griffith criterion is proposed, which leads to a rigorous justification of the well-known Griffith–Irwin theory.  相似文献
