The scale invariance technique has been employed to discuss theη i-driven turbulent transport under a new fluid model developed by Kimet al [1]. Our analysis reveals that the finite Larmour radius effect plays a decisive role to determine the scaling behaviour of the energy transport under the new fluid model. However, the overall scaling of the transport coefficient remains unchanged as compared to that derived by Connor [2] under the traditional fluid model. The approximations considered by Connor [2] are qualified with additional requirements within the new fluid approach. In the dissipative case, which has not been discussed earlier, additional constraints on the power scaling laws of the transport properties are imposed due to the dissipative mechanisms in the basic governing equations.  相似文献

Previous work showed how moving particles that rest along their trajectory lead to time-nonlocal advection–dispersion equations. If the waiting times have infinite mean, the model equation contains a fractional time derivative of order between 0 and 1. In this article, we develop a new advection–dispersion equation with an additional fractional time derivative of order between 1 and 2. Solutions to the equation are obtained by subordination. The form of the time derivative is related to the probability distribution of particle waiting times and the subordinator is given as the first passage time density of the waiting time process which is computed explicitly.  相似文献

The reordering of the multidimensional exponential quadratic operator in coordinate-momentum space (see X. Wang, C.H. Oh and L.C. Kwek (1998). J. Phys. A.: Math. Gen. 31:4329–4336) is applied to derive an explicit formulation of the solution to the multidimensional heat equation with quadratic external potential and random initial conditions. The solution to the multidimensional Burgers equation with quadratic external potential under Gaussian strongly dependent scenarios is also obtained via the Hopf-Cole transformation. The limiting distributions of scaling solutions to the multidimensional heat and Burgers equations with quadratic external potential are then obtained under such scenarios. In 1977, Richard Feynman, in an invited lecture at the national APS meeting, stated unequivocally that quantum mechanical principles placed few important restrictions on how a stable atom can be held in place, and, indeed, a stable atom on the whole has a comparatively definite position fixed by its comparatively massive nucleus. In this spirit, N-body problems are studied using molecules and classical molecular potentials and also using collections of molecules, called particles, with related potentials derived through conservation of mass and energy. Detailed applications include primary vortex flow and turbulent flow for both water vapor and air, soliton collision, and the motion of a top on a smooth surface. Other applications, like microdrop collision, stress of a slotted copper plate, contact angle of adhesion, cellular self-reorganiztion, the bounce of an elastic ball, and elastic snap-through are mentioned and referenced appropriately. Lastly, numerical methodology is developed which preserves the physics of special relativity and is applied to simulate a relativistic oscillator.  相似文献

I discuss in detail the result that the Bell’s inequalities derived in the context of local hidden variable theories for discrete quantized observables can be satisfied only if a fundamental conservation law is violated on the average. This result shows that such theories are physically nonviable, and makes the demarcating criteria of the Bell’s inequalities redundant. I show that a unique correlation function can be derived from the validity of the conservation law alone and this coincides with the quantum mechanical correlation function. Thus, any theory with a different correlation function, like any local hidden variable theory, is incompatible with the fundamental conservation laws and space-time symmetries. The results are discussed in the context of two-particle singlet and triplet states, GHZ states, and two-particle double slit interferometry. Some observations on quantum entropy, entanglement, and nonlocality are also discussed.  相似文献

We introduce a new class of models in which a large number of “agents” organize under the influence of an externally imposed coherent noise. The model shows reorganization events whose size distribution closely follows a power law over many decades, even in the case where the agents do not interact with each other. In addition, the system displays “aftershock” events in which large disturbances are followed by a string of others at times which are distributed according to a t−1 law. We also find that the lifetimes of the agents in the system possess a power-law distribution. We explain all these results using an approximate analytic treatment of the dynamics and discuss a number of variations on the basic model relevant to the study of particular physical systems.  相似文献

We consider two-dimensional relativistically invariant systems with a three-dimensional reducible configuration space and a chiral-type Lagrangian that admit higher symmetries given by polynomials in derivatives up to the fifth order. Nine such systems are known: two are Liouville-type systems, and zero-curvature representations for two others have previously been found. We here give zero-curvature representations for the remaining five systems. We show how infinite series of conservation laws can be derived from the established zero-curvature representations. We give the simplest higher symmetries; others can be constructed from the conserved densities using the Hamiltonian operator. Polydisperse suspensions consist of particles differing in size or density that are dispersed in a viscous fluid. During sedimentation, the different particle species segregate and create areas of different composition. Spatially one-dimensional mathematical models of this process can be expressed as strongly coupled, nonlinear systems of first-order conservation laws. The solution of this system is the vector of volume fractions of each species as a function of depth and time, which will in general be discontinuous. It is well known that this system is strictly hyperbolic provided that the Masliyah–Lockett–Bassoon (MLB) flux vector is chosen, the particles have the same density, and the hindered-settling factor (a multiplicative algebraic expression appearing in the flux vector) does not depend on the particle size but is the same for all species. It is the purpose of this paper to prove that this hyperbolicity result remains valid in a fairly general class of cases where the hindered-settling factor does depend on particle size. This includes the common power-law type hindered-settling factor in which the exponent, sometimes called Richardson–Zaki exponent, is determined individually for each species, and is a decreasing function of particle size. The importance of this paper is two-fold: it proves stability for a class of polydisperse suspensions that was not covered in previous work, and it offers a new analysis of real data.  相似文献

The uniform mth order spacings are then defined as the clockwise distances between any pair of points having m − 1 other points in between. A Glivenko-Cantelli theorem and nonlinear almost sure bounds for the empirical distribution function based on these uniform spacings are derived.
