Numerical analysis of the Toda lattice equations

Numerical solutions to three systems of integrable evolutionary equations from the Toda lattice hierarchy are analyzed. These are the classical Toda lattice, the second local dispersive flow, and the second extended dispersive flow. Special attention is given to the properties of soliton solutions. For the equations of the second local flow, two types of solitons interacting in a special manner are found. Solutions corresponding to various initial data are qualitatively outlined.     

Ribaucour Transformations for Hypersurfaces in Space Forms

The theory of Ribaucour transformations for hypersurfaces in space forms is established. For any such hypersurface M, that admits orthonormal principal vector fields, it was shown the existence of a totally umbilic hypersurface locally associated to M by a Ribaucour transformation. A method of obtaining linear Weingarten surfaces in a three-dimensional space form is provided. By applying the theory, a new one-parameter family of complete constant mean curvature (cmc) surfaces in the unit sphere, locally associated to the flat torus, is obtained. The family contains a class of complete cmc cylinders in the sphere. In particular, one gets a family of complete minimal surfaces and minimal cylinders, locally associated to the Clifford torus.Mathematics Subject Classifications (2000): 53C20.     

Isoperimetric estimates in products

In a product M ₁ × M ₂ of Riemannian manifolds, the least perimeter required to enclose given volume among general regions is at least 1/√ 2 times that among regions of product form, assuming that the isoperimetric profiles of M ₁ and M ₂ are concave. This result sharpens earlier work of Grigor'yan, generalizes results of Bollobás and Leader and of Barthe, and yields a lower bound on the Cheeger isoperimetric constant of a product.     

Three-body problem in the theory of the dielectric constant

We study the corrections to the Clausius-Mossotti formula for the dielectric constant of a disordered system of polarizable spherical particles. Previously we have derived an exact cluster expansion for the correction terms. Here we study the three-body correction in detail. We derive an explicit expression for the integrand of the three-body cluster integral for a system of polarizable point dipoles.     

Properties of<Emphasis Type="Italic">B</Emphasis><Subscript>c</Subscript> meson

The mass spectrum ofcb meson is investigated with an effective quark-antiquark potential of the form -α_c/r +Ar ^νwith ν varying from 0.5 to 2.0. TheS andP-wave masses, pseudoscalar decay constant, weak decay partial widths in spectator model and the lifetime ofB _cmeson are computed. The properties calculated here are found to be in good agreement with other theoretical and experimental values at potential index,ν = 1

研究了线性常微分方程的保线性变换，得到任意两个二阶线性常微分方程等价的条件，并用于求解一类二阶线性变系数齐次常微分方程．对数学物理方法教学中怎样通过适当的变换把给定的二阶线性变系数齐次常微分方程化为可解的方程给出了合理解释。     

Little Grothendieck's theorem for sublinear operators

Let SB(X,Y) be the set of the bounded sublinear operators from a Banach space X into a Banach lattice Y. Consider π₂(X,Y) the set of 2-summing sublinear operators. We study in this paper a variation of Grothendieck's theorem in the sublinear operators case. We prove under some conditions that every operator in SB(C(K),H) is in π₂(C(K),H) for any compact K and any Hilbert H. In the noncommutative case the problem is still open.     

Steady-state analytical solutions for the lattice boltzmann equation

A general class of analytical solutions of the lattice Boltzmann equation is derived for two-dimensional, steady-state unidirectional flows. A subset of the solutions that verifies the corresponding Navier-Stokes equations is given. It is pointed out that this class includes, e.g., the Couette and the Poiseuille flow but not, e.g., the basic Kolmogorov flow. For steady-state non-unidirectional flows, first and second order solutions of the lattice Boltzmann equation are derived. Practical consequences of the analysis are mentioned. Differences between the technique applied here and those used in some earlier works are emphasized.     

A Note on Cactus Trees: Variational vs. Recursive Approach

In this article we deal with the variational approach to cactus trees (Husimi trees) and the more common recursive approach, that are in principle equivalent for finite systems. We discuss in detail the conditions under which the two methods are equivalent also in the analysis of infinite (self-similar) cactus trees, usually investigated to the purpose of approximating ordinary lattice systems. Such issue is hardly ever considered in the literature. We show (on significant test models) that the phase diagram and the thermodynamic quantities computed by the variational method, when they deviates from the exact bulk properties of the cactus system, generally provide a better approximation to the behavior of a corresponding ordinary system. Generalizing a property proved by Kikuchi, we also show that the numerical algorithm usually employed to perform the free energy minimization in the variational approach is always convergent.     

Lattice valued intuitionistic fuzzy sets

In this paper a new definition of a lattice valued intuitionistic fuzzy set (LIFS) is introduced, in an attempt to overcome the disadvantages of earlier definitions. Some properties of this kind of fuzzy sets and their basic operations are given. The theorem of synthesis is proved: For every two families of subsets of a set satisfying certain conditions, there is an lattice valued intuitionistic fuzzy set for which these are families of level sets.
