Velocity spectrum for non-Markovian Brownian motion in a periodic potential

Non-Markovian Brownian motion in a periodic potential is studied by means of an electronic analogue simulator. Velocity spectra, the Fourier transforms of velocity autocorrelation functions, are obtained for three types of random force, that is, a white noise, an Ornstein—Uhlenbeck process, and a quasimonochromatic noise. The analogue results are in good agreement both with theoretical ones calculated with the use of a matrix-continued-fraction method, and with the results of digital simulations. An unexpected extra peak in the velocity spectrum is observed for Ornstein-Uhlenbeck noise with large correlation time. The peak is attributed to a slow oscillatory motion of the Brownian particle as it moves back and forth over several lattice spaces. Its relationship to an approximate Langevin equation is discussed.

Band bending at the Si(1 1 1)–SiO2 interface induced by low-energy ion bombardment

Experiments employing photoreflectance spectroscopy have uncovered band bending due to electrically active defects at the Si(1 1 1)–SiO₂ interface after sub-keV Ar⁺ ion bombardment. The band bending of about 0.5 eV resembles that for Si(1 0 0)–SiO₂, and both interfaces exhibit two kinetic regimes for the evolution of band bending upon annealing due to defects healing. The healing takes place about an order of magnitude more quickly at the (1 1 1) interface, however, probably because of less fully saturated bonding and higher compressive stress.

Electrochemical reduction of 1,1-dihalo-2,2-disubstituted cyclopropanes

The electrochemical reduction of 1,1-dihalo-2-R-2-methylcyclopropanes was studied by polarography and preparative electrolysis. A mixture of stereoisomeric monoboro- and monochlorocyclopropanes was obtained with preparative yield of 60–70% in preparative electroreduction in methanol against a background of 0.1 M LiClO₄. In the case of bromine derivatives of cyclopropanes (except when R = CN) an effect was found on the part of the current density on the ratio of cis and trans isomers, which was interpreted as a change, in dependence on current density, of the contributions of the reactions of reduction of the starting compounds (S_N2 mechanism) and ionic pairs (S_N1 mechanism). The effect of the solvent (CHCl₃, DMF, DMSO, MeOH) and background salt (LiClO₄, Et₄NBr) on the ratio of stereoisomers is in agreement with this interpretation.A. E. Effect of distortion in electron impact excitation in Coulomb-projected Born approximation

We have calculated total and differential cross-sections for 1s →ns (n = 2, 3, 4) electron impact excitation of hydrogen and hydrogenic ions at various energies in Coulomb-projected Born approximation. Distortion due to static interactions, target polarization and exchange effects has been incorporated in the initial channel. The present calculations have been compared with other theoretical and experimental results.     

The Spaces b~p with 0 < p < 1

Let 0 < p < 1. In this paper we prove that the Bergman norm on the p-th Bergman space bp(H) is equivalent to certain "normal direction norm" as well as certain "tangential direction norm", where H = Rn-1 × R is the upper half space. As an application, we get the boundedness of harmonic conjugation operators on bp(H).     

The supersymmetric WKB approximation of ring-shaped oscillator potential in r and θ dimensions with spherical polar coordinates

According to calculation of the energy spectrum of ring-shape oscillator potential by using the supersymmetric WKB approximation, it is shown that the energy spectrum of some noncentral separable potentials can be exactly obtained in r and θ dimensions by above method.

Generation of large fifth-order nonlinear phase shifts by use of lossless χ(2) cascaded nonlinear processes

It is shown that the cascaded fifth-order nonlinear phase shifts will increase with energy loss in the cascaded processes. Essentially different from the multi-photon absorption accompanied with inherent material nonlinearities, the loss of fundamental wave in a cascaded process is controllable and suppressible. By introducing difference frequencies generated from the reaction between the fundamental and its second harmonic after the cascaded processes, the fundamental wave can be free of energy loss, while the large cascaded fifth-order nonlinear phase shift is maintained.
