The density, ρ, of N-(p-n-octyloxy benzylidene) p-n-butyl aniline (OBBA) is measured as a function of temperature from the isotropic liquid to the smectic-G phase. The compound is trimorphic, exhibiting three smectic phases, smectic-G, crystal smectic-B, and smectic-A phase. The changes in density across the phase transformations and the calculated thermal expansion coefficients confirm the order of the transitions as first order. Particular importance of the smectic-A to crystal smectic-B transformation, which is of first order, is apparent from the density jump across the transition.  相似文献

This paper discusses an alternative criterion for estimating the baseband transfer function of multimode optical fibers. The optical fibers having little mode conversions show that the baseband frequency characteristics are affected strongly by the launching condition of an input optical pulse. In the criterion presented here, the baseband transfer function in such fibers is estimated by considering the launching condition that excites all fiber modes uniformly in amplitudes. In order to obtain such a transfer function, the actual responses affected by the launching conditions are measured together with the modal power distributions for different kinds of launching conditions. A numerical procedure is then presented that enables us to derive the baseband transfer function independently of modal power distributions. Experimental results at λ x= 633 nm and 856 nm are presented for step index fibers (0.1 and 0.2 km long) having a core radius of 30 pm (its refractive index is 1.452) and a refractive index difference of 0.7%.  相似文献

A mathematical formalism related to the approximate as well as the accurate interferometric data reduction schemes is briefly outlined and subsequently applied in the reconstruction of the assumed (Luneburg) axisymmetric refractive index distribution. The presented comparative analysis confirms the generally held opinion that the approximate methods (“straight-line” and Kokubun-Iga approaches) may provide quite reasonable results in the examination of refractively inhomogeneous disturbances characterized by weak gradient and moderate index variation. On the other hand, the accurate scheme for transverse interferometric data interpretation and reduction, based on the close-form correlation between the fringe shift and the deflection function, [1] remains the only method for reliable reconstruction of strongly refracting index profiles, independently of magnitude of refraction and ambiguity of the fringes. This fact is of considerable importance for transverse interferometry of fibers (preform rods) and/or GRIN-rod lenses characterized by high numerical apertures.  相似文献

Dielectric properties of single-crystal {N(CH3)4}2HgCl4 (structure at room temperature; orthorhombic Pmcn) have been measured in a temperature range from 4 K to about 370 K. The dielectric constant along the a-, b-, and c-axes shows a break at 278 K. No other anomalies are detected in the temperature range studied. The transition temperature increases linearly with increasing hydrostatic pressure at a rate of 0.20 K/MPa. Twin boundaries are observed in the low-temperature phase on b-plate specimens. The results indicate that the phase transition in {N(CH3)4}2HgCl4 is ferroelastic, as in {N(CH3)4}2XBr4 (X: Mn, Co, Zn).  相似文献

Abstract

A novel and simple two-frequency Brillouin fiber laser is presented. It is based on a fiber Fabry-Perot cavity with fiber Bragg gratings as reflectors. The model of stimulated Brillouin scattering in fiber grating–based Fabry-Perot resonator is investigated. The laser allows conversion efficiency of close to 100% and suppresses the higher-order Stokes waves. The theoretical prediction is presented and the experimental demonstration is realized.  相似文献

Abstract

This article proposes a silicon-based arrayed waveguide grating operating in two wavelength bands simultaneously with central wavelengths of 1,550.12 nm and 1,310.12 nm. If input light to an arrayed waveguide grating consists of wavelengths around 1,550.12 nm, the proposed system will act as a four-channel demultiplexer with channel spacing of 0.8 nm. On the other hand, when input wavelengths are distributed around 1,310.12 nm, the same arrayed waveguide grating will divide the input to seven channels with channel spacing of 0.33 nm.  相似文献

Abstract

This article presents a theoretical study of the dispersion properties of the asymmetrically apodized fiber Bragg gratings. It is shown that the dispersive behavior of these gratings may be changed from normal to anomalous, depending on the apodization function and the grating strength. The asymmetrical Bessel functions were chosen in order to demonstrate these properties of the gratings. The application of this effect in a dispersion-less Fabry-Pérot fiber cavity formed by two asymmetrically apodized fiber Bragg gratings is discussed.  相似文献

Abstract

This article presents a novel bidirectional wavelength reconfigurable optical network utilizing a remotely pumped erbium-doped fiber amplifier and tunable fiber Bragg gratings. The system is experimentally demonstrated at a 10-Gb/s per channel over 20-km fiber span that verifies the metro-network range system performance. The achieved power penalty is less than 1 dB when compared to the back-to-back transmission link. An example of practical application where the proposed module is used as an add/drop multiplexer and a remote node in the bidirectional wavelength division multiplexing passive optical network system is described.  相似文献

Abstract

The 1H‐ and 13C‐NMR spectra of some substituted stilbenes and chalcones were assigned unambiguously on the basis of a combination of homo‐ (COSY) and heteronuclear (HETCOR) two‐dimensional methods, the chemical shifts, as well as spin‐coupling constants. The Aik empirical parameters of the –O–C(S)–N(CH3)2, –S–C(O)–N(CH3)2, and –SH group were calculated to help predict the chemical shifts of substituted stilbenes, 4′‐nitrostilbenes, and chalcones. The 1H‐ and 13C‐NMR spectra have been shown to be able to differentiate between the isomers of O‐stilbenyl (4, 5) and S‐stilbenyl N,N‐dimethylthiocarbamates (7, 8) as well as O‐chalconyl (6) and S‐chalconyl N,N‐dimethylthiocarbamates (9).  相似文献

长周期光纤光栅(LPFG)传感器具有非常广泛的应用价值,而有效解决物理量交叉敏感问题是其实用化的关键。基于LPFG对包层外介质折射率和厚度的敏感性,提出一种双段多层折射率横向分布结构的新型LPFG传感器的设计,并利用耦合模理论和传输矩阵方法分析了镀膜材料折射率、膜层厚度和镀层长度对新型LPFG传感器光谱特性的影响。软件仿真结果证明,这种LPFG由于结构设计上的特殊性,将使LPFG的谐振峰发生分裂,即一个透射峰分裂为两个。由于两个分裂峰对应力和温度的灵敏度不同,利用该结构的LPFG作为传感器,可以实现温度、应力等物理量的同步测量,从而解决LPFG传感器的交叉敏感问题。  相似文献
