Computational Complexity in Algebraic Systems

Computability and computational complexity were first considered over the fields of real and complex numbers and generalized to arbitrary algebraic systems. This article approaches the theory of computational complexity over an arbitrary algebraic system by taking computability over the list extension for a computational model of it. We study the resultant polynomial complexity classes and mention some NP-complete problems.     

EPR investigations of oxidation effects in (V1−xMox)2−δO3

Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) investigations has been carried out on the new family of molybdenum doped vanadium sesquioxides (V_1−xMo_x)_2−δO₃. The oxidation effects were monitored from the rate of paramagnetic V⁴⁺ created when the sample is exposed to the air. The effects of the oxidation time, sample temperature, and annealing at 1000 °C under a diluted hydrogen atmosphere on the EPR signal features are analyzed. The V⁴⁺ concentration in the oxidized samples is determined and the relaxation effects driven by the conduction electrons are pointed out from the thermal behaviour of the EPR line features. EPR spectra of all the oxidized samples also reveal a small ferromagnetic contribution strongly correlated with the V⁴⁺ content.     

Creation, Dissipation and Recycling of Resources in Non-Equilibrium Systems

In this article, we define stochastic dynamics for a system coupled to reservoirs. The rules for forward and backward transitions are related by a generalized detailed balance identity involving the system and its reservoirs. We compare the variation of information and of entropy. We define the Carnot dissipation and prove that it can be expressed in terms of cyclic transformations. Lower bounds for partial dissipations are also studied, as well as the effect of switching off certain reservoirs. We also study the near degeneracy of the stochastic matrix, relate it to phase transitions and we show that the reduced dynamics on the set of phases is a permutation. Finally, we relate these concepts to heat, work and more generally to the dissipation and creation of resources, in general systems.

Determination of the electric field gradient asymmetry from Berry’s phase in NQR of powder samples

An effect of Berry’s phase on the NQR spectrum of the rotating powder sample is described and applied for the determination of the electric field gradient asymmetry. The proposed method involves the analysis of the frequency singularities in the NQR powder patterns of the rotating samples. The Berry’s phases for the eigenstates, associated with an adiabatically changing quadrupole hamiltonian, are calculated for nuclei with a spin I = 3/2 and I = 1 as a function of the asymmetry parameter.     

FORWARD-BACKWARD STOCHASTIC DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS WITH STOPPING TIME

The existence and uniqueness results of fully coupled forward-backward stochastic differential equations with stopping time (unbounded) is obtained. One kind of comparison theorem for this kind of equations is also proved.
