Phosphatidylethanolamines (PE) are one of the major components of cells membranes, namely in skin and in retina, that are continuously exposed to solar UV radiation being major targets of photooxidation damage. In addition, due to the presence of the free amine group, PE can also undergo glycation, in hyperglycemic conditions which may increase the susceptibility to oxidation. The aim of this study is to develop a model, based on mass spectrometry (MS) analysis, to identify photooxidative degradation of selected PE (POPE: PE 16:0/18:1, PLPE: PE 16:0/18:2, PAPE: PE 16:0/20:4) and glycated PEs due to UV irradiation. Photooxidation products were analysed by electrospray ionization MS (ESI‐MS) and tandem MS (ESI‐MS/MS) in positive and negative mode. Emphasis is placed in the influence of glycation in the generation of distinct photooxidation products. ESI‐MS spectra of PE after UV photo‐irradiation showed mainly hydroperoxy derivatives, due to oxidation of unsaturated fatty acyl chains. Glycated PE gave rise to several new photooxidation products formed due to oxidative cleavages of the glucose moiety, namely between C1 and C2, C2 and C3, and C5 and C6 of this sugar unit. These new products were identified by ESI‐MS/MS in positive mode showing distinct neutral loss depending on the different structure of the polar head group. These new identified advanced glycated photooxidation products may have a deleterious role in the etiology of diabetic retinopathy and in diabetic retinal microvascular complications. A series of novel mono‐ethylenically unsaturated polycarbosiloxanes macromonomers as compatibilizer materials for soft silicon hydrogels were prepared from the anionic ring‐opening polymerization (AROP) of 2,2,5,5‐tetramethyl‐2,5‐disila‐1‐oxacyclopentane followed by methacrylation. The characterization was performed by end‐group analysis and included the determination of molecular weight, molecular weight distributions, end‐group functionality, and impurity profiles using gas chromatography‐mass spectrometry, gel permeation chromatography, nuclear magnetic resonance, and matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization time of flight mass spectrometry. The synthetic procedure was optimized to minimize the formation of any dimer that would have the potential to act as a low molecular weight cross linker. In addition, the novel di‐ethylenically unsaturated polycarbosiloxanes were synthesized by cationic polymerization. Use of these silicone derivatives was explored in the formulation of contact lenses, and the structure–property relationship was examined. When copoymerized with hydrophilic monomers, these were able to give transparent and wettable films with desired properties, particularly a low moduli for contact lenses. Contact lens with high modulus is often shown to impart a higher degree discomfort when worn upon the eye. It was clear from the structure–property relationship that the modulus and the tensile strength of the formulated material depend on the nature and length of the polycarbosiloxane used and may be tuned for the purpose as needed.  Microcrystals of the metal silicate hydrate ilerite orient macroscopically on the surface of a ATR-crystals and thus, are accessible for infrared linear dichroism measurements. We present first results which indicate that the alkyl chain packing and the orientation of the polar group of dodecyltrimethylammoniumbromide (DTAB) intercalated between silicate layers can be determined in terms of infrared order parameters. The properties of DTAB can be modulated by the relative humidity of the surrounding atmosphere and by temperature. Upon heating DTAB undergoes a phase transition from a paraffin-like solid to a fluid phase. The former is characterized by the orthorhombic perpendicular packing of the frozen alkyl chains with tilted long axes. The interactions between the ionic groups of the surfactant and that of the host matrix stabilize the lamellar arrangement of DTAB in the crystalline and in the fluid phases. The ionic complex of mesitoyl bromide with aluminum bromide in a 1∶1 composition (Mst-1) does not initiate the isobutylene polymerization inn-hexane or methylene dichloride at −78 °C. The corresponding ionic complex of the 1∶2 composition (Mst-2) acts as a cationogenic initiator of the polymerization. The addition of excess Lewis acid or introduction of organic electron acceptors increases the initiating activity of the Mst-1 complex and activates acyl complexes of the 1∶2 composition including Mst-2. The results are discussed in terms of the effect of specific solvation on the nucleophilicity of counteranions, which makes the addition of the monomer to the carbocation possible. Polymerization of isobutylene inn-hexane at -78 °C in the presence of the complex of benzoyl chloride with AIBr3 (1 : 2) was investigated. The results were compared to those obtained previously for the polymerization of this monomer induced by the complex of acetyl bromide with AlBr3. Both complexes initiate the polymerization only by acyl cations. The number average molecular weight (M n ) of the polymer linearly increases as the degree of isobutylene conversion increases. The polymerization restarts after repeated addition of the monomer, andM n continues to increase linearly. The efficiency of the initiaton by the benzoyl chloride complex does not exceed 6.2 %; the reaction has the second order with respect to the initiator in the case of PhCOCI · A12Br6; and the chain-propagation rate constant is 13.9 L mol–1 s t. The use of PhCOCI Al2Br6 as the initator of the polymerization of isobutylene allows one to prepare macromolecules with very low contents of the terminal C=C double bonds and with narrow molecular weight distributions. End‐linking poly(dimethylsiloxane) was used to prepare bimodal elastomers networks so as to have inhomogeneous nanostructures, and also to prepare others having very broadly multimodal chain‐length distributions. Macroscopic phase separation, probably high crosslink density clusters, was observed to occur in some of the bimodal networks. The mechanical properties in simple extension and in equilibrium swelling were measured. The bimodal elastomers that were not obviously inhomogeneous showed very good mechanical properties, but the macroscopically phase‐separated networks, and the broadly multimodal network were weak. Analysis of the Mooney‐Rivlin profiles suggests that the reinforcing mechanism could have a structural component in addition to that from the limited extensibilities of the short chains. The mechanical properties and the extents of swelling support the cluster conjecture, in accord with previous morphological studies on spatially‐inhomogeneous polysiloxane elastomers.  相似文献

Summary: In this work an investigation of the chain end groups produced in the free radical copolymerization of vinilydene fluoride (VDF) and hexafluoropropylene (HFP) is performed. Type and amount of chain end groups are evaluated by a meticulous analytical characterization of VDF/HFP copolymer. At first pulsed gradient spin-echo nuclear magnetic resonance (spin-echo NMR) is used to identify all the chain end groups also at very low concentration (equal to 0.1 mmol · Kg−1). The instrument sensitivity is increased of an order of magnitude in comparison with the traditional NMR. Moreover potentiometric titration and ion chromatography (IC) are also used to study the chain end groups and, as a consequence, the nature and the amount of the acidity showed by the polymer chains. In details two intensity of acidity are detected by potentiometric titration, namely strong and weak. The strong acidity is associated to the presence of residual surfactant and can be removed washing the polymer, while the weak acidity is due to free molecules of fluoride acid (HF). The standard ion chromatography facility is properly modified to quantify the fluoride in the polymer matrix without any pre extraction in water. Thanks to this the HF concentration in the polymer is evaluated with high accuracy. A detailed kinetic scheme for the VDF/HFP polymerization is also proposed taking into account all the findings obtained studying the chain end groups.  相似文献

Various star‐shaped poly(phenoxy propylene sulfide)s (PPSs) bearing curable end groups were synthesized by the functionalization of the propagating ends of star‐shaped poly(PPS) with various electrophilies. The functionalization with chloromethyl styrene proceeded quantitatively, and afforded polymers with Mn almost agreed with theoretical value and narrow Mw/Mn. The photocuring conditions were optimized, and the addition of 10 wt % of poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate was effective to attain sufficient crosslinking. The photocuring reaction of the end‐functionalized poly(PPS) films cast on silicon wafers was conducted by UV irradiation. The cured poly (PPS)s became insoluble in THF, supporting the sufficient crosslinking. Developing of a cured polymer yielded a negative photoresist pattern. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The end‐to‐end cyclization of telechelic polyisobutylenes (PIB's) toward cyclic polyisobutylenes is reported, using either ring‐closing metathesis (RCM) or the azide/alkyne‐“click”‐reaction. The first approach uses bisallyl‐telchelic PIB's (Mn = 1650, 3680, 9770 g mol?1) and Grubbs 1st‐, 2nd‐, and 3rd‐generation catalyst leading to cyclic PIB's in 60–80% yield, with narrow polydispersities (Mw/Mn = 1.25). Azide/alkyne‐“click”‐reactions of bisalkyne‐telechelic PIB's (Mn = 3840 and 9820 g mol?1) with excess of 1,11‐diazido‐undecane leads to the formation of mixtures of linear/cyclic PIB's under formation of oligomeric cycles. Subsequent reaction of the residual azide‐moieties in the linear PIB's with excess of alkyne‐telechelic PEO enables the chromatographic removal of the resulting linear PEO‐PIB‐block copolymers by column chromatography.
