Functional integrals in the statistical theory of turbulence and the burgers model equation

The functional integrals appearing in master equations for turbulent flow of an incompressible fluid and for the Burgers model equation are treated. A possible way is described to define the integration properly and related problems are discussed. For the simple example of the Burgers model equation of turbulence some results are presented.     

Kinetic equation approach to phase transitions

An exact mathematical discussion of the linearized Enskog-Vlasov equation is given. A criterion for the occurrence of the linear instability is related to a criterion for the occurrence of the bifurcation of the equilibrium stationary solution to the nonlinear Enskog-Vlasov equation. Mathematical results are interpreted physically in connection with phase transitions.     

Differential equation approach for the energy average of the scattering function

An exact differential equation is given to evaluate the energy average of the scattering function. The advantage of the differential equation as compared to the earlier methods based on series expansion is that one has to evaluate only single sums over the complex poles of the S-matrix. Using Wigner’s semicircle law for the distribution of the real parts of the poles of the scattering matrix, the earlier expression for the energy average of the scattering function is rederived.     

Global solutions of the Boltzmann equation on a lattice

The nonlinear Boltzmann equation with a discretized spatial variable is studied in a Banach space of absolutely integrable functions of the velocity variables. Conservation laws and positivity are utilized to extend weak local solutions to a global solution. This is shown to be a strong solution by analytic semigroup techniques.Supported by National Science Foundation Grant ENG-7515882.     

Volume variation of nuclear Grüneisen parameter for equation of state studies

The method of first principle pseudopotential is used to simulate the volume variation of nuclear Grüneisen parameter. The elements Al and Be, for which Neal’s experimental data exist are investigated. The nuclear Grüneisen obtained from the details of phonon frequencies are in better agreement with the experimental data as compared to those obtained from approximate Slater and Dugdale-MacDonald methods, often used in shock wave studies.
