Probab.3(1993), 454–466), we obtain the limit law of the largest interpoint Euclidean distance for a spherically symmetric multivariate sample of the Kotz distribution. In this paper, we derive a stochastic model for the HIV epidemic in homosexual populations involving age and race. To account for effects of different mixing patterns, a low risk selection rule is introduced. The model is then formulated in terms of chain multinomial distributions by means of which the means are derived. Some simulation studies by computer indicate clearly that age and race have a significant impact on the HIV epidemic. 相似文献

This paper reports a formulation and implementation of a mixed (both direct and indirect) boundary element method using the double layer and its adjoint in a form suitable for solving Stokes flow problems involving elastically deformable particles. The formulation is essentially the Completed Double Layer Boundary Element Method for solving an exterior traction problem for the surrounding fluid or solid phase, followed by an interior displacement, and a mobility problem (if required) for the elastic particles. At the heart of the method is a deflation procedure that allows iterative solution strategies to be adopted, effectively opens the way for large-scale simulations of suspensions of deformable particles to be performed. Several problems are considered, to illustrate and benchmark the method. In particular, an analytical solution for an elastic sphere in an elongational flow is derived. The stresslet calculations for an elastic sphere in shear and elongational flows indicate that elasticity of the inclusions can potentially lead to positive second normal stress difference in shear flow, and an increase in the tensile resistance in elongational flow.This work is supported by a grant from the Australian Research Grant Council. This paper provides computable representations for the evaluation of the probability content of cones in isotropic random fields. A decomposition of quadratic forms in spherically symmetric random vectors is obtained and a representation of their moments is derived in terms of finite sums. These results are combined to obtain the distribution function of quadratic forms in spherically symmetric or central elliptically contoured random vectors. Some numerical examples involving the sample serial covariance are provided. Ratios of quadratic forms are also discussed. 相似文献

Fluctuation of the average spin for one-dimensional Ising spins with nearest neighbor interactions are studied. The distribution function for the average spin is calculated for a finite volume, finite temperature, and finite magnetic field. As the volume increases and the temperature diminishes at zero magnetic field, there are two limits in which the probability distribution shows quite different behaviors: in the thermodynamic limit as the volume goes to infinity for finite temperature, small deviations of the fluctuations are described by a Gaussian distribution, and in the limit as the temperature vanishes for a finite volume, the ground states are realized with probability one. The crossover between these limits is analyzed via a ratio of the correlation length to the volume. The helix-coil transition in a polypeptide is discussed as an application. 相似文献

In this paper an analytical model is presented which permits the determination of the minimal inventory reorder point subject to (a) a maximum specified expected customer order waiting time or (b) a maximum specified probability of a customer order waiting more than a predetermined time span. The probability distribution of the customer order waiting time is determined for an arbitrary demand distribution (e.g. normal, gamma or exponential) and under stochastic replenishment lead time conditions by use of arguments from renewal theory.
