Normalized intensity correlation function of single-mode laser system driven by colored cross-correlation noises

Considering a single-mode laser system with cross-correlated additive colored noise and multiplicative colored noise, we study the effects of correlation among noises on the normalized intensity correlation function C(s).C(s) is derived by means of the projection operator method.     

Color appearance seen through a colored filter of various sizes

It will provide us an effective method to study the color perception of the elderly if we can employ for young subjects a pair of glasses with color property chosen to simulate that of the elderly. One problem has to be solved before using such glasses based on the concept of the recognized visual space of illumination, that is, the size of the glasses. When a piece of a white paper is seen through a yellow filter in a room, it naturally appears yellowish. But if the observer uses the filter to cover his/her eyes entirely the white paper returns to its original white; this is known as color constancy. Between these two extreme cases, the color is expected to change from yellow to white. Chromaticness and hue of an achromatic test chart of a small or large size were determined by the elementary color naming method when the chart was seen monocularly through a red, yellow, green or blue filter, respectively, placed at various distances from the eyes. Chromaticness was large at around 40% when the visual field through the filter was equal to or smaller than the test chart, but it rapidly decreased when the visual field extended over the test chart so that objects other than the test chart were included in the visual field. It decreased to almost zero when the filter was about 5 cm or less away from the eye. It was concluded that we do not necessarily have to use goggles to cover the entire visual field but can use a normal pair of glasses made of colored filters for young subjects to study the color perception of the elderly with understanding that the study is only for the color perception experienced while wearing the glasses.

The time-local view of nonequilibrium statistical mechanics. II. Generalized Langevin equations

On a semiphenomenological level, generalized Langevin equations are usually obtained by adding a random force (RF) term to macroscopic deterministic equations assumed to be known. Here this procedure is made rigorous by conveniently redefining the RF, which is shown to be colored noise weakly correlated with the observables at earlier times due to the finite lifetime of microscopic events. Corresponding fluctuation-dissipation theorems are derived. Explicit expressions for the spectral density of the fluctuations are obtained in a particularly simple form, with the deviation of the line shape from the Lorentzian being related most explicitly to the spectral density of the RF. Well-known low-frequency expressions and the Einstein relation of (generalized) Brownian motion theory are modified so as to include lifetime effects. New sum rules are obtained relating dissipative quantities to contour integrals (in the complex frequency domain) over spectral densities or corresponding response functions. The Heisenberg dynamics of a complete set of macroobservables is shown to be equivalent to a generalized Orstein-Uhlenbeck stochastic process which is a non-Markovian process due to the lifetime effects.

Discontinuous Galerkin method for elliptic stochastic partial differential equations on two and three dimensional spaces

In this paper,we study a discontinuous Galerkin numerical scheme for a class of elliptic stochastic partial differential equations (abbr.elliptic SPDEs) driven by space white noises with ho- mogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions for two and three space dimensions.We also establish L~2 error estimates for the scheme.In particular,a numerical test for d=2 is presented at the end of the article.     

Properly colored paths and cycles

In an edge-colored graph, let d^c(v) be the number of colors on the edges incident to v and let δ^c(G) be the minimum d^c(v) over all vertices v∈G. In this work, we consider sharp conditions on δ^c(G) which imply the existence of properly edge-colored paths and cycles, meaning no two consecutive edges have the same color.     

Acyclic and star colorings of cographs

An acyclic coloring of a graph is a proper vertex coloring such that the union of any two color classes induces a disjoint collection of trees. The more restricted notion of star coloring requires that the union of any two color classes induces a disjoint collection of stars. We prove that every acyclic coloring of a cograph is also a star coloring and give a linear-time algorithm for finding an optimal acyclic and star coloring of a cograph. If the graph is given in the form of a cotree, the algorithm runs in O(n) time. We also show that the acyclic chromatic number, the star chromatic number, the treewidth plus 1, and the pathwidth plus 1 are all equal for cographs.     

The mechanochemical stochastic processes of molecular motors

In this article, we develop a rigorous mathematical foundation of microscopic motors. The main characteristic is the combination of Brownian and Poisson noises.     

Effecfs of Cross-Correlation Between Real Noise in Transient Process of Single-Mode and Imaginary Parts of Colored Pump Laser

A two-dimensional single-mode laser model with cross-correlation between the real and imaginary parts of the colored quadric pump noise is investigated. A novel laser amplitude Langevin equation is obtained, in which the cross-correlation λp between the real and imaginary parts of the pump noise appears. The mean, variance, and skewness of first-passage-time are calculated. It is shown that the mean, variance, and skewness of first-passage-time are strongly affected by λp.
