On a stochastic hyperbolic integro-differential equation

In this paper we study an initial-boundary-value problem for a hyperbolic integro-differential equation with random memory and a random noise. We establish the existence, uniqueness and exponential stability of solutions. Our method consists of finite-dimensional approximation and energy estimates.     

Commutativity conditions for rings: 1950–2005

During the last 55 years there have been many results concerning conditions that force a ring to be commutative. These results were stimulated by Jacobson's famous result and were extensively developed by Herstein. This paper will survey the area by organizing the results according to whether they come from variations on Herstein's conditions, depend on general polynomial conditions, depend on the presence of a derivation, or whether a ring has special properties that make commutativity more easily accessible. Finally, the most recent conditions concern product sets and lead to results in a new area of inquiry.     

Modelling and optimal control of coupled structural acoustic systems with piezoelectric elements

We construct a model of a shell with piezoelectric elements (patches) that take into account the mutual influence of deformations and electric fields. Coupled problems for the shell with piezoelectric patches and an acoustic field, are studied and results on the existence and the uniqueness are obtained. For this system we consider an optimal control problem on noise attenuation and obtain results on the existence, the uniqueness, necessary and sufficient conditions of optimality. Lower Bounds for the Height and Size of the Ideal Class Group in CM-Fields

 We prove that, under the assumption of the Generalized Riemann Hypothesis, the exponent of the ideal class group of a CM-field goes to infinity with its absolute discriminant. Propagation of singularities in Cauchy problems for quasilinear thermoelastic systems in three space variables

By using microlocal analysis, the propagation of weak singularities in Cauchy problems for quasilinear thermoelastic systems in three space variables are investigated. First, paradifferential operators are employed to decouple the quasilinear thermoelastic systems. Second, by investigating the decoupled hyperbolic-parabolic systems and using the classical bootstrap argument, the property of finite propagation speeds of singularities in Cauchy problems for the quasilinear thermoelastic systems is obtained. Finally, it is shown that the microlocal weak singularities for Cauchy problems of the thermoelastic systems are propagated along the null bicharacteristics of the hyperbolic operators.     

Separable free quadratic algebras over quadratic integers

The aim of the paper is to determine all free separable quadratic algebras over the rings of integers of quadratic fields in terms of the properties of the fundamental unit in the real case. The paper corrects some earlier published results on the subject.
