Apis mellifera syriaca Venom: Evaluation of Its Anticoagulant Effect,Proteolytic Activity,and Cytotoxicity along with Its Two Main Compounds—MEL and PLA2—On HeLa Cancer Cells

Bee venom (BV) is one of the most remarkable natural products that has been a subject of studies since ancient times. Recent studies have shown that Apis mellifera syriaca venom possesses antibacterial as well as cytotoxic effects on cancer cell lines. The venom contains a variety of bioactive molecules—mainly melittin (MEL) and phospholipase A2 (PLA2), as well as other compounds that are not well characterized. In this work, we continue the biological characterization of A. mellifera syriaca venom by testing its anticoagulant effect on human plasma using the prothrombin time (PT) test, as well as assessing its proteolytic activity. In addition, the cytotoxicity of the crude venom—and of its two main components, MEL and PLA2—was tested on HeLa cancer cell lines for the first time. The results obtained showed the capacity of A. mellifera syriaca venom to increase clotting time, thereby proving its anticoagulant effect. Moreover, the venom did not demonstrate a significant proteolytic activity unless administrated at concentrations ≥ 5 mg/mL. Finally, we showed that crude A. mellifera syriaca venom, along with MEL, exhibit a strong in vitro cytotoxic effect on HeLa cancer cell lines, even at low concentrations. In summary, our findings could serve as a basis for the development of new natural-based drug candidates in the therapeutic field.     

混合染料荧光选择性增强受激拉曼散射Stokes波

报道用不同混合比的罗丹明6G(R6G)和罗丹明B(RB)混合染料荧光选择性放大CCl₄和苯的受激拉曼散射不同阶次Stokes波。CCl₄二至五阶Stokes波分别被混合摩尔比为20∶2,20∶13及20∶40(R6g∶RB)的R6G和RB的混合染料荧光放大;一阶Stokes波强度被混合溶液削弱。这是由于到二至五阶Stokes波分别位于以上三种混合溶液荧光峰附近,并且都远离了R6G和RB的吸收峰,混合溶液的荧光增强作用大于吸收作用,因此这几阶Stokes被混合溶液荧光放大。而CCl₄的一阶Stokes位于RB吸收峰附近,又远离各混合溶液荧光峰,溶液的吸收作用大于荧光增强作用,导致一阶Stokes被混合溶液削弱。文章还报道了苯的一、二和三阶Stokes波分别被不同混合比的R6G和DCM的混合乙醇溶液放大,并预测了该方法应用前景。     

Nonlinear resonant tunneling diode (RTD) circuits for microwave A/D conversion

Short-duration electrical pulses play important roles in ultrafast time-domain metrology: they are used to sample rapidly varying signals or as probe signals in ranging radars, time-domain reflectometry and in communication. In this work, we design a nonlinear transmission, which is loaded with resonant tunneling diode to be suitable for microwave A/D conversion. A resonant tunneling diode (RTD) has a negative differential resistance that means when the voltage increases the current decreases. The equivalent circuit of monostable line is given. The simulation is performed by using OrCad program. Results show that a spike is produced and after a charging time constant, another switching occurs. Hence – similar to a relaxation oscillator – the spiking period is determined by the amplitude and frequency of the input current. The transmission line itself ensures the generation and propagation of identical spikes, such as solitons formed after few diodes.     

Collisional effects in the tokamap

Plasmas confined in tokamaks with non-symmetric perturbations are surrounded by a chaotic layer of magnetic field lines that guide charged particles to the tokamak wall. We use an analytical two-dimensional symplectic mapping to study the resulting fractal patterns of field line escape. However, particles may experience several collisions before escaping toward the tokamaks wall. We add a random collisional term to the field line mapping to investigate how the particle collisions modify their escape patterns.
