Substoichiometric Determation of Silver Traces in Palladium with Adsorptive Sampling

A substoichiometic analytical method of high sensitivity combined with adsorptive sampling has been worked out for the determination of traces of silver in palladium making use of the selective deposition of microquantities of silver from aqueous solutions of palladium salts on cathodically polarized platioum surfaces. The stability and reporducibility of the saturation values of deposited silver are practially independent of the content and concentration of silver and palladium in the solution. The sensitivity proved to be 0.01 ppm, the accuracy ± 30 per cent.     

Darstellung und Weitergabe der Expositionseinheit Röntgen im DAMW Teil II: Die Hohlraum-Ionisationskammern für 60Co- und 137Cs-γ-Strahlung

Nachdem in ersten Teil der Arbeit eine Beschreibung der Normalmeβeinrichtungen (Freiluft-Ionisationskammern) des DAMW zur Darstellung der Einheit der Exposition für den Energiebereich der Röntgenstrahlung erfolgte, werden hier die entsprechenden Einrichtungen für die Gammastrahlung von ⁶⁶Co und ¹³⁷Cs behandelt. Grundlage für die definitionsgemäβe Bestimmung der Einheit bilden dabei verschidene Hohlraum-Inoisationskammern aus Reinstgraphit, deren Aufbau erläwtert wird. Sie sind vom zylindrischen Typ und haben Meβvolumina von ca. 2 cm³, 8 cm³ cm³ und 100 cm³. Als Ladungsmeβeinrichtung wird ebenfalls ein elektromctrischer Fotozellenkompensator verwendet. Die Bestimmung der in kollimierten Strahlenbündeln notwendigen Korrektionsfaktoren wird im einzelnen behandelt. Der maximale Fehler bei der Darstellung der Einheit der Exposition betrāgt 2%.

Une nouvelle enceinte destinée à la production de l,or colloïdal radioactif¹⁹⁸Au à usage thérapeutique et diagnostique est construite dans le Laboratoire de Chimie de Haute Activité à l'Institut des Sciences Nucléaires ?Boris Kidri?”. L'enceinte comporte deux appareils pour la préparation des colloïdes de l'or radioactif, permettant une production permanente méme au cas où l'un des appareils est accidenté. C'est grâce à une conception originale de la protection en plomb que l'accès aus appareils et aux stocks des effluents est rendu facile et ainsi que les systèmes de commande des processus des processus chimiques et la manipulation dans l,enceinte sont bien simplifiés     

Eine Apparatur zur kontinuierlichen Kontrolle der Frischbetonrohdichte bei vorgefertigten Betonbauteilen

Die Anforderungen an die Meβapparatur in bezug auf Meβgemaiogkeit, örtliche Auflösung, Meβgeometrie und Strahlenschutz werden dargelegt. Die Meβgemauigkeit soll ±2% (Meβbereich: Q = 2,0 2,4g/cm³) und die örtliche Auflösung 20cm (maximale Fertigungsgeschwindigkeit: υ_max = 1,5m/min) betragen. Es wird die Meβapparatur beschrieben und über ihre Eichung berichtet. Die Eichkurven, die mit Festbetonquadern aufgenommen wurden, können für die Messungen am Frischbetonstrang verwendet werden, wenn man die Einflüsse des Wassergehaltes und der Bewehrung durch Korrektionen berücksichtigt. Die Erprobung der Versuchseinrichtung erfolgte am Gleitfertiger bei der Herstellung schlaff bewehrter Straβenbauplatten.     

Dose in Skeleton and Bone Marrow following Thorotrast Injection into Blood

The calculation of the dose rate and cumulative dose in the morrow-free skeleton and bone marrow of thorotrast patients presupposes the knowledge of both the translocation of thorium daughters to the skeleton, and the portion of ²³²Th that is localized in colloidal form in the bone marrow. Whereas in bon marrow ²²⁸Th is in equilibrium with ²³²Th up to only 20%, in marrow-free skeleton ²²⁸Th is present in excess to ²³²Th (average activity ratio 1·75), considering the measured activity ratios between ²³²Th and its daughters as well as the distribution of the colloid and the unclides of the thorium decay chain within the organism the dose rate and cumulative dose in bone marrow and marrow-free bone were calculated as function of the time of thorotrast burden and the amount of injected material.     

18O/16O and 13C/12C Fractionation During the Reaction of Carbonates with Phosphoric Acid: Effects of Cationic Substitution and Reaction Temperature

Abstract

The factors for ¹⁸O/¹⁶O fractionation between carbonates and CO₂ gas produced by the dissolution of the carbonates in phosphoric acid (sealed vessel method) have been investigated as a function of reaction temperature (20–90°C) and cationic substitution in the solid. Synthetic CaCO₃, Ca_0.75 Mn_0.25 CO₃, MnCO₃, BaCO₃ and SrCO₃ powders, and a natural kutnahorite sample were used as solids. The δ¹⁸O values of the gaseous CO₂ liberated by the reaction with phosphoric acid decrease with increasing temperature and seem to be a linear function of T(°K)^?2. The slopes are specific for different carbonates. No temperature-depended ¹³C/¹²C fractionation seems to exist.     

Determining Optimum Conditions for Measuring by Gamma-ray Backscattering

The paper is concerned on the calculation of the optimal thickness of measured material from the point of view of measurement error. The minimum relative error of a measurement is determined as a function of the gamma radiaiton linear attenuation coefficient and the thickness of the material used. Various types of fluctuations are considered and attention is paid to the background detected in the same arrangement without measured material. The results are summarized into simple figures. The conclusion is made that the optimal thickness increases with poorer quality of the measuring instrument.     

Seletivitätsbestimmung von Katalysatoren zur Toluolentalkylierung durch Einsatz von Toluol-14C-7

Die bei der katalytischen Toulolentalkylierung mögliche Konkurrenzreaktion der Spaltung des aromatischen Kernes führt zu unerwünschten Verlusten an Aromaten und kann infolge ihrer starken exothermen Wärmetönung bei der technischen Realisierung des Verfahrens Schwierigkeiten bei der thermischen Beherrschung des Reaktors bewirken. Bereits in der Entwicklungsphase des Katalysators ist man somit auf ein Verfahren angewiesen, das es erlaubt, diese Ringspaltung sicher nachzuweisen und quantitativ zu bestimmen.

In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird eine Tracermethode unter Einsatz von Toluol-¹⁴C-7 beschrieben, die diese Forderung weitgehendst erfüllt.     

Separation of Nitrogen Isotopes by Thermal Diffusion

The prototype of a thermal diffusion column for the use as basic unit in a N¹⁴N¹⁵ cascade is described. The hot wire separation column consists of a brass tube of effective length of 250 cm and inner diameter of 10 mm. Four columns are connected in series on a square cascade, the separation factors of which are compared with the values obtained by other investigators.
