The influence of finite length gradient pulses on NMR diffusion experiments on liquids confined to diffuse between two parallel planes is investigated. It is experimentally verified that the pore size decreases when determined using finite gradient pulses if the results are analyzed within the short gradient pulse approximation. The results are analyzed using the matrix formulation. The observed minima in the echo decay profiles are considerably less sharp than theoretical analysis would indicate and we suggest that this is due to the presence of a distribution of pore sizes in the sample. In addition, effects due to the presence of background gradients are discussed. It is argued that effects due to the finite length gradient pulses are relatively minor and in realistic applications the effects due to inhomogeneities in pore sizes and effects due to background gradients will constitute more serious problems in pore size determinations by means of NMR diffusometry.  相似文献

We present a global solution to a Riemann problem for the pressure gradient system of equations.The Riemann problem has initially two shock waves and two contact discontinuities. The angle between the two shock waves is set initially to be close to 180 degrees. The solution has a shock wave that is usually regarded as a free boundary in the self-similar variable plane. Our main contribution in methodology is handling the tangential oblique derivative boundary values.  相似文献

The distribution of the distance between two (or more) successive occurrences of a specific word in a random sequence of letters is known under different models. In this paper, a more general problem is studied: the distribution of the distance between two (or more) successive occurrences of any word of a given set under a Markov model for the sequence. The generating function and a recurrence for obtaining the probabilities are given. These results are applied to study the distribution of the "CHI" motif in the genome sequence of Haemophilus influenzae.  相似文献

采用近来提出的量子谱函数,我们把闭合轨道理论应用到半圆和四分之一圆弹子球系统,这种量子谱函数的傅利叶变换包含了连接任意两点的许多经典轨道的信息.计算表明量子谱的傅立叶变换和经典轨道的长度符合的很好.从这两个体系可以看出半经典理论为经典和量子力学提供了很好的桥梁作用.  相似文献

We investigated the propagation and transformation of laser beams and the formation of caustics in particular directions, including optical axes of crystals. We found a direct connection between the particular directions and the curvature of wave surfaces that is determined by the symmetry and optical properties of the crystals. We show that, for an unconstrained optimization problem, the long-term optimal trajectory consists of a sequence of greatest descent directions and a Newton method in the final iteration. The greatest descent direction can be computed approximately by using a Levenberg-Marquardt like formula. This implies the view that the Newton method approximates a Levenberg-Marquardt like formula at a finite distance from the minimum point, instead of the standard view that the Levenberg-Marquadt formula is a way to approximate the Newton method. With the insight gained from this analysis, we develop a two-dimensional version of a Levenberg-Marquardt like formula. We make use of the two numerically largest components of the gradient vector to define here new search directions. In this way, we avoid the need of inverting a high-dimensional matrix. This reduces also the storage requirements for the full Hessian matrix in problems with a large number of variables.
