Applications of thermal analysis in some solid-state reactions

TG-DTG-DTA has been used to characterize various isomers of CoCl₂·2(CH₃C₆H₄NH₂). Thermal analysis is further used to analyse the binary mixtures of these isomers. DTA recorded after different elapsed times follows the progress of reaction between cobalt chloride and benzocaine where progressively small endotherms are associated with starting materials. The application of thermal analysis to following the solid-solid reactions between metal acetates and 8-hydroxyquinoline was highlighted. The stoichiometry of such reactions was confirmed from the decrease in intensity of an endotherm as one increases the stoichiometry.Thanks are due to Drs. Keshav Chander, K. Thermal decomposition of cesium hexanitratouranium(IV)

As cesium hexanitratouranium(IV), Cs₂U(NO₃)₆, has the same Cs:U stoichiometry as that of Cs₂UO₄, thermal decomposition of this nitrato complex in air and nitrogen was studied in detail as a possible alternate method of preparing pure Cs₂UO₄. The volatility of cesium nitrate, which is one of the intermediate products, changed this Cs:U ratio during thermal decomposition. Hence, only Cs₂U₂O₇ was obtained on heating the sample to 775 K or higher. A scheme for the thermal decomposition of Cs₂U(NO₃)₆ is given by combining the observed TG, XRD and IR data.     

掺铬铝酸钇红色颜料的合成、结构和性能表征

研究了高温固相合成制备掺铬铝酸钇红色颜料的方法，着重考察了灼烧温度（1000-1400℃）、灼烧时间（1-2h）、主要原料配比（Al／Y：1：0．5—1：1．5，Cr2O3％：0．3％-5％）等实验条件对产物结构和色泽的影响。XRD等方法对样品进行的相态分析表明，主相为铝酸钇石榴石相；运用反射光谱对红色颜料的色泽进行了反射峰位和相关强度的表征。当Y2O3：Al2O3摩尔比为1：1，掺杂3％的Cr2O3作显色剂，在少量矿化剂存在时，在1300℃下灼烧1 h，得到了色坐标为x=0．577，Y=0．401的红色陶瓷颜料。     

The thermodynamic properties of acetals+heptane mixtures at 298.15 K

Excess enthalpies and excess volumes were determined at 298.15 K for: dimethoxymethane+heptane, diethoxymethane+heptane, 1,1-dimethoxyethane+heptane, 1,1-diethoxyethane+heptane, 2,2-dimethoxypropane+heptane and 1,1-diethoxypropane+heptane.     

Thermophysical properties of oil shale minerals

The thermal diffusivity values of eight minerals that are commonly associated with oil shales of the Green River formation have been measured by the laser flash technique. Data are presented in the temperature range 25–500°C for quartz, dolomite, calcite, plagioclase, analcite, pyrite, potassium feldspar and low albite. A comparison of the thermal conductivities of some of these minerals, calculated from experimentally measured thermal diffusivity and density, with the experimental values reported in the literature reveals good agreement. Trends in the variation of thermal diffusivity with temperature and anisotropic effects in thermophysical parameters are discussed from the point of view of grain boundary effects in these polycrystalline mineral aggregates.     

Infrared spectra of Cs3CoCl5

The infrared spectra, transmittance, and polarized reflectance of Cs₃CoCl₅ are reported. The group theoretical analysis was executed and a vibrational assignment proposed on the basis of D_4h symmetry. Factor group and site effects are discussed.     

Carbon-13 NMR spectroscopy of heterocyclic compounds—III : A 20 MHz study of chemical shifts and carbon-proton coupling constants for the methyl coumarins

Complete assignments of chemical shifts and extensive assignments of carbon-proton coupling constants are presented for the 3-, 4-, 6-, 7- and 8-methylcoumarins, together with similar parameters for 5,8- and 6,8-dimethylcoumarin. Shifts in 6,8-dimethylcoumarin can be predicted with high precision from the substituent effects observed in the 6- and 8-methyl derivatives, and shifts are predicted for the 5-methyl derivative, which was not studied.     

Multicomponent analysis with a computerized flow injection system using LED photometric detection

An original computer-controlled solid-state photometer has been developed and its potential for simultaneous multicomponent flow-injection analysis of binary and ternary mixtures is demonstrated. The device is simple in construction. Its principle of operation is based on rapid sequential measurements of the absorbance of the complexes formed by the analytes with chromogenic reagents at the wavelengths corresponding to the emission maxima of three light emitting diodes (563, 580 and 638 nm).
