We study spectral distortions of diffuse ultra-high energy (UHE) neutrino flavour fluxes resulting due to physics beyond the Standard Model (SM). Even large spectral differences between flavours at the source are massaged into a common shape at earth by SM oscillations, thus, any significant observed spectral differences are an indicator of new physics present in the oscillation probability during propagation. Lorentz symmetry violation (LV) and neutrino decay are examples, and result in significant distortion of the fluxes and of the well-known bounds on them, which may allow UHE detectors to probe LV parameters, lifetimes and the mass hierarchy over a broad range.  相似文献

We present general analytical expression for two and three-dimensional cases of static energy transfer kinetics in doped nanoparticles (of round, spherical and cylindrical shape). A series of numerical experiments has been performed using Monte-Carlo simulation. The analytical expressions have shown very good coincidence with the computer simulation.  相似文献

Considering impurity doping in small sized carbon nanotubes of diameter around 0.4 nm, we have calculated the donor binding energy by increasing the dopant concentration through a screening function that includes the curvature effect. We could observe the sudden fall in donor binding energy and metallic behaviour of the smaller single walled carbon nanotubes around 1011/cm2 (0.0026%) of impurity concentration. This result is useful for nano electronic device application such as nano diodes and switches.  相似文献

Measurements of surface-liquid interactions (contact-angle goniometry) and tip-surface adhesion forces (atomic force microscopy) combined with infrared spectroscopic studies have been used to investigate surface-preparation and solution-deposition conditions for the reproducible formation of self-assembled molecular structures on gold-coated tips and substrates for atomic force microscopy. Preliminary data show that surface-saturated self-assembled monolayers form reproducibly on prolonged (>20 h) exposure of gold-coated glass substrates to ethanolic solutions of ω-functionalised alkanethiols in the concentration range 80-160 mmol dm−3. The data also show that exposure for 16 h to alkanethiol concentrations in the range 160-240 mmol dm−3 promote bilayer formation whereas concentrations of 240-320 mmol dm−3 result in the deposition of multilayers, the average orientation of which is parallel to that of the first molecular layer; the use of parent 1-undecanethiol solutions at concentrations of 1-80 mmol dm−3 results in incomplete monolayer coverage.  相似文献

The classical simplex method is extended into the Semiglobal Simplex (SGS) algorithm. Although SGS does not guarantee finding the global minimum, it affords a much more thorough exploration of the local minima than any traditional minimization method. The basic idea of SGS is to perform a local minimization in each step of the simplex algorithm, and thus, similarly to the Convex Global Underestimator (CGU) method, the search is carried out on a surface spanned by local minima. The SGS and CGU methods are compared by minimizing a set of test functions of increasing complexity, each with a known global minimum and many local minima. Although CGU delivers substantially better success rates in simple problems, the two methods become comparable as the complexity of the problems increases. Because SGS is generally faster than CGU, it is the method of choice for solving optimization problems in which function evaluation is computationally inexpensive and the search region is large. The extreme simplicity of the method is also a factor. The SGS method is applied here to the problem of finding the most preferred (i.e., minimum free energy) solvation sites on a streptavidin monomer. It is shown that the SGS method locates the same lowest free energy positions as an exhaustive multistart Simplex search of the protein surface, with less than one-tenth the number of minizations. The combination of the two methods, i.e.. multistart simplex and SGS, provides a reliable procedure for predicting all potential solvation sites of a protein.  相似文献

A series of ferrocene‐containing liquid‐crystalline polyphosphonates with an even number of methylene groups are reported. All the polymers gave birefringent melts. The mesophase was identified as transparent with an increase in the spacer. The effects of pendant substitution and the spacer were studied with thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry. The effects of the phosphonate group in the spacer and the ferrocene ester group in the mesogen were examined. The presence of a steplike mesogenic structure and a pendant phenyl group in the spacer led to reductions in the glass‐transition and melting temperatures. The ferrocene moiety in the mesogen might be one of the reasons for the increased thermal stability and decreased liquid crystallinity. An energy‐minimized structure for the mesogenic and spacer segments was created with computer‐modeling programs, and it suggested the reason for the reductions in the glass‐transition and melting temperatures. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. It is well established that atomic fluorine has a miserly high ionization energy and avariciously high electron affinity. Yet, as was shown some 30 years ago, the latter value is anomalously low-linear extrapolation shows the value to be some 110 kJ/mol less than expected by comparison to the heavier halogens. Related literature investigation extended this anomaly to nitrogen and oxygen and their (valence) isoelectronic congeners. We extend it to related cationic species and thereby the noble gases and alkali metals, and the aforementioned species are better understood. We thus ask if the ionization energy/electron affinity anomaly of fluorine remains an anomaly.  相似文献

Two simple kinetic models of a Ne-buffered XeCl laser discharge are presented based on different simplifications of the chemical kinetics of a complex model that recently appeared in the literature. When applied to the study of a small-volume XeCl laser, the results of both simple and complex models are in satisfactory agreement with the experiments. Shifting to a larger-volume laser, both models show problems due to loss of stability of the discharge. A one-dimensional modelling is performed, and it is found that different assumptions on the kinetics of the NeXe+ ion in the discharge lead to completely different results as regards the effect of a preionization-triggered instability.  相似文献

Summary The effect of the substitution in position 1 on the low-energy conformations of the oxytocin/vasopressin 20-membered ring was investigated by means of molecular mechanics. Three representative substitutions were considered: -mercapto-,-dimethyl)propionic acid (Dmp), (-mercapto-,-cyclopentamethylene)propionic acid (Cpp), both forming strong antagonists, and (,-dimethyl--mercapto)propionic acid (-Dmp), forming analogs of strongly reduced biological activity, with the -mercaptopropionic (Mpa) residue taken as reference. Both ECEPP/2 (rigid valence geometry) and AMBER (flexible valence geometry) force fields were employed in the calculations. Three basic types of backbone conformations were taken into account which are distinguished by the type of -turn at residues 3 and 4: 1/III, II, and I/III, all types containing one or two intra-annular hydrogen bonds. The allowed (ring-closed) disulfide-bridge conformations were searched by an algorithm formulated in terms of scanning the disulfide-bridge torsional angle C-S-S-C. The ECEPP/2 and AMBER energies of the obtained conformations were found to be in reasonable agreement. Two of the low-energy conformers of the [Mpa1]-compound agreed very well with the cyclic part of the two conformers found in the crystal structure of [Mpa1]-oxytocin. An analysis of the effect of -substitution on relative energies showed that the conformations with the N-C-CH2-CH2 (1) and C-CH2-CH2-S (1) angles of the first residue around (–100°, 60°) and (100°, –60°) are not affected; this in most cases implies a left-handed disulfide bridge. In the case of -substitution the allowed values of 1 are close to ± 60°. This requirement, being in contradiction to the one concerning -substitution, could explain the very low biological activity of the -substituted analogs. The conformational preferences of substituted compounds can largely be explained by the analysis of local interactions within the first residue. Based on the selection of the conformations which are low in energy for both the reference and -substituted compounds, two distinct types of possible binding conformations were proposed, the first one being similar to the crystal conformer with a left-handed disulfide bridge, the second one having a right-handed bridge, but a geometry different from that of the crystal conformer with the right-handed bridge. The first type of disulfide-bridge arrangement is equally favorable for both I/III and II types of backbone structure, while the second one is allowed only for the II type of backbone. No conformation of the I/III type has a low enough energy to be considered as a possible binding conformation for all of the active compounds studied in this work.  相似文献
